Christel Khalil's Superhero Voice

Your 5-year-old may be too small to watch THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, but chances are she’s heard of Christel Khalil (Lily). Well, she’sheard Christel Khalil while watching the new Disney cartoon W.I.T.C.H.

“It’s about five junior high school girls and they change into these superheroes and go and save the world every day,” Khalil explains. “But then they deal with their regular stresses of school and just being teenage girls. I play this blonde, ditzy valley girl, which is fun. There are four other characters and we’re all different ethnicities so it’s like all different people of the world.”

W.I.T.C.H. stands for the names of the girls — Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin. Each girl has a unique power. Khalil provides the voice for Cornelia, who has powers over the earth; she literally moves mountains and grows plants at will.

Being a superhero doesn’t take up as much time as you’d think, at least not for Khalil. “It’s just one day a week for an hour and a half, basically,” she shares. “It’s a lot of fun, it’s just real easy and fun and all the girls are cool, so I like it.”

The show was originally going to air on Toon Disney and ABC Family, but was then extended to the ABC Saturday morning lineup as well. Khalil says comic books and action figures based on the series are forthcoming.

Y&R co-star Camryn Grimes (Cassie) is already a fan of Khalil’s cartoon. “I saw W.I.T.C.H. and it was so funny,” Grimes raves. “I was watching it going, ‘That voice is so familiar. Oh, my gosh! That’s Christel’s voice!'”
