Soap Opera Digest: What do you like to do to relax?

Asia Ray Smith: I like to go surfing, or just hang out with my friends.Digest: Are you a dog person or a cat person?

Smith: Dog person. They seem a lot friendlier and are more cuddly than cats. I have a dog. Her name is Freckles. She’s a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. She’s little and so, so cute.Digest: What is your favorite TV show?

Smith: I love shows that make me laugh. I love FRIENDS. I was really sad it ended. I also like WILL & GRACE. They’re my favorites.Digest: What movie role would you have loved to have played?

Smith: Evan Rachel Wood’s role in Thirteen. The character had so many levels and it looked like it would have been a lot of fun to play. To work with that character would be a good time.Digest: If you were not an actor, what would you be?

Smith: I’d like to do something in the music business. I love music, all different types. I love everything about it. Listening to music, playing music, producing, whatever. Right now, my dad [Y&R Executive Producer/Co-Head Writer Jack Smith] is teaching me how to play guitar.Digest: What’s something that you’ve always wanted to do but have been afraid to try?

Smith: Bungee jumping. I haven’t done it ’cause I’m too young, but it always looked like so much fun once you did it. It would be really scary to jump off a bridge, but I’ve always wanted to try that. My brother did it and he said it was a lot of fun.Digest: What talent do you wish you were born with?
Smith: I wish I was a good artist. I can’t draw anything.Digest: Who is your favorite actor and actress?

Smith: Christopher Walken and Angelina Jolie.Digest: Where is your favorite vacation spot?

Smith: Hawaii. I was born and raised there and I have so many friends in Hawaii. Whenever I go back there, it’s like going home. Because it is! Everything is laid-back. Everything moves slowly. I used to get up at 5 in the morning and go surfing before school. I love going back there.Digest: What is your least favorite household chore?

Smith: Cleaning my room because I have so much junk in there. It takes me forever.Digest: What’s your favorite type of food?

Smith: Filipino food. I love it. It’s great. My mom is Filipino and she’s a fantastic cook. I like everything she makes. If you’ve never tried it, you should.Digest: What one word would describe your life right now?
Smith: Busy [laughs].Digest: What was your most memorable fan letter?

Smith: I got a letter from a girl who was dyslexic. She kept writing backwards and she kept mixing up her words and her letters. But she said she really loved watching me on the show and that I made her happy when she saw me on-screen. To get a letter like that makes me feel happy.Digest: You’re a sophomore now, but do you know what you want to major in in college?

Smith: Realistically, I’m thinking I should major in something other than theater and performing arts, just because I know how it is. I should be able to do something else in case [acting] doesn’t work out for me. There are so many people out there who want to be actors and the chances of making it are very slim. There’s no permanency [in that profession], so you can’t get too comfortable.Digest: Where do you like to shop for clothes?

Smith: I really like Forever 21. It’s cheap and they have a lot to select from.Digest: Who is your favorite Simpson?

Smith: Homer. He’s the silliest and the funniest.Digest: Do you make your bed in the morning?

Smith: I leave it. My mom usually yells at me, but I leave it [laughs].Digest: Are you a planner or do you go with the flow?

Smith: Go with the flow. Whenever my friends and I try to make plans, it usually falls apart, so we just do stuff on the spur of the moment. [In L.A.] everything seems to change at the last second, anyway.Digest: How do you like your meat? Rare, medium or well-done?

Smith: Medium. I like it a little tender, but it creeps me out when it’s too red.Digest:Who is your favorite Muppet?

Smith: Ernie and Bert. I like them as a unit [laughs].
