Style Is In The Details
And the gift bag goes to...— By Gabrielle Winkel The Academy Awards arguably has the most lavish ones, highlighted by the gift basket (make that steamer trunk) given to all the presenters. However, the Daytime Emmys' lounge, produced by On 3 Productions, is no slouch, offering an interesting mix of items worth up to $40,000. This year's booty included, but definitely was not limited to, LASIK eye surgery, red-carpet jewelry, men's loungewear, a coffee tumbler with a blingy built-in clock, a blanket with a personalized picture and, from Sam's Club — yes, Sam's Club — a luxury gift set of camera, DVD player, MP3 player and one-year membership. Oh, yes, visitors were also offered free foot massages, courtesy of Dr. Scholl's For Her.
Mary Kay Cosmetics (just products, no Pink Cadillacs): "I grew up with Mary Kay and love the lip gloss," raved Alicia Minshew (Kendall, ALL MY CHILDREN). Kelly Monaco (Sam, GENERAL HOSPITAL) was ready to put the triathlon-tested waterproof mascara to a real test: "I have to see if it's soap opera proof."
Anne Koplik Designs: "I spent an hour at the (Anne Koplik Designs) jewelry stand. They always have beautiful things. I got something to wear now and something for [the Emmys]," Minshew confided. Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL) wore her new necklace on B&B's international press junket.
LASIK: "I'm thinking about the LASIK," Lang admitted, "because I wear glasses. My eyes aren't that horrible, but it would still be better than having to wear glasses. The Laser Eye Center is up in San Francisco, but I'd take a little flight for that."
UnderCoverWear spa products: The big hit from the huge selection was the Spa Candle, which liquifies into massage oil that is three degrees above body temperature. (It's a candle, it's massage oil; if only it sliced and diced!) Jason Cook (Shawn, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) immediately went in search of someone with whom to use it. Jack Wagner (Nick, B&B) went for the wrinkle cream. "Oh, God, I need this really bad," he said as he slathered some on. Peter Reckell (Bo, DAYS) loved the hemp- and soy-based products so much that he and his wife, Kelly Moneymaker, ordered a case for their eco-friendly home.
2(X)IST men's loungewear: Paula Benard (that's Mrs. Maurice) was overheard saying, "Honey, look! It's all you wear. You love your 2(x)ist." In fact, even GH's Sonny wears 2(x)ist muscle shirts and tanks. Natalia Livingston (Emily, GH), Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GUIDING LIGHT), Alexa Havins (Babe, AMC) and Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth, GH) all grabbed shirts for their men — Tyler Christopher (Nikolas, GH), Michael Sabatino (JT, PASSIONS, ex-Vince, GL et al), Justin Bruening (Jamie, AMC) and Michael Saucedo (ex-Juan, GH), respectively. Susan Lucci (Erica, AMC) and Monaco grabbed red tanks for themselves.
Rescue Spa: Kim Zimmer (Reva, GL) and many others enjoyed the reflexology foot massage sponsored by Dr. Scholl's For Her. "He was really good!" Zimmer raved of her masseur. "They're from Rescue Spa (in West Hollywood) and they're fabulous. They know all the right spots on the bottom of the foot. I feel energized." Perfect for that walk to the stage to collect her Emmy.
Treasure Knit Blankets: This company wove presenters' personal photographs into the pattern of keepsake blankets. Havins and Bruening sent in a photo from their honeymoon, while Christian J. LeBlanc's (Michael, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS) blanket featured a pre-Katrina photo of his home in New Orleans. Several recipients teared up when they saw their blankets, including Maura West (Carly, AS THE WORLD TURNS) and Zimmer, who both had shots of their children created. "This is spectacular," gushed West. "I'll have it forever. These are my babies."
Riptopia: Along with new MP3 players from Sam's Club, presenters were thrilled to receive 1,000 free burns from Riptopia, a company that can download entire CD collections into a digital library in 48 hours. "It's amazing," Michael Park (Jack, ATWT) enthused. "I'm here with the doc (Dr. Gary Kawesch, Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley), and I'm about to go get some free jewelry."
TimeMug: Nothing seems better suited for the early riser than this coffee mug with a blingy built-in clock. ONE LIE TO LIVE's Forbes March (Nash) grabbed one, as did co-star Bree Williamson (Jessica/Tess). Lucci took about six, in all colors.
