THE 411
Roscoe Born was born on November 24, 1950 in Topeka, Kansas, one of four siblings. At the age of seven, his family moved to Maryland, where he spent the rest of his formative years. Born entered Tulane University in Louisiana at the early age of seventeen, and later attended Boston University.
Born’s first big break as an actor came with the role of mobster Joe Novak on RYAN'S HOPE in 1981, where he also met ex-wife Randall Edwards (Delia, RH). The two were married for eight years. Born later married former SANTA BARBARA co-star Roberta Bizeau Weiss (ex-Flame Beaufort). The two have a daughter together, Alberta, born in 1997. The couple divorced in 2000, and Born is currently single.
Despite critically acclaimed soap performances, Born received personal criticism (and put his career in jeopardy) for an incident that occurred while starring on ALL MY CHILDREN as Jim Thomasen. In December 1997, he decided to break his contract by not showing up for work. Despite a public apology written to ABC and his family in June of 1998, few daytime shows were willing to hire him. In 1999, he made an appearance as Greg Lauritz on AS THE WORLD TURNS, but the rest of his jobs in the following years were strictly non-daytime. Some of these jobs included working at a drugstore, doing voice-overs, working in a hospital, and working for a private investigator.
In 2002, Born made a return to daytime when ONE LIFE TO LIVE asked him to reprise to the role of Mitch Laurence, a character he had played from 1985-87. His return lasted until 2003.
Born recently returneed to daytime in April 2005, where he portrayed Y&R's "Terrible Tom," the abusive father of Kevin Fisher and ex-husband of Gloria Fisher. After a successful stint, he last aired in December 2005, as his character was shot and killed.
