The 411

Since taking the soap world by storm in 1998, Nathaniel Marston has earned a reputation as sort of a tough guy. After he got arrested for criminal mischief in 1999, some even referred to him as a "loose cannon."

His story begins on July 9 in Torrington, CT, where Marston was born. He lived with his mother, Elizabeth — herself an aspiring actress — before moving to Kauai, HI when he was 3. When he was 10, they moved to San Diego and then to Los Angeles and New York before returning to Los Angeles, where he graduated from Beverly Hills High School.

Fate played a hand in Marston's success as an actor when an agent for William Morris walked into the Beverly Hills bakery where Marston was working. The agent thought he saw potential in the handsome young man and got him in a few commercials. In 1996, Marston's career started to take off when he landed roles in the films Love Is All There Is and The Craft, and then a regular role in the television series EDUCATING MATT WATERS.

Marston made his daytime debut in 1998 when he joined AS THE WORLD TURNS as Eddie Silva, a role that earned him critical praise. After leaving ATWT in 2000, Marston went on to work in two feature films, Ordinary Sinner and Ciao America, and played a reporter in the cable television movie MONDAY NIGHT MAYHEM.

Marston came to Llanview in December 2001 in the role of Al Holden. Al was killed off in August 2003, but Marston returned to the show a few months later as Dr. Michael McBain.

Marston's time at OLTL ended abruptly when he landed in Bellevue Hospital after allegedly attacking three people in midtown Manhattan on October 20, 2007 at 4:30 a.m. Published reports say Marston assaulted his victims with a metal crate, breaking one of their legs. The incident resulted in the hospitalization of Marston, Police Officer Sean Turner and at least one of the victims. It occurred at 45th Street and 10th Ave.

A show representative gave this statement about a week after the arrest: "Nathaniel Marston has been a valuable member of the cast of ONE LIFE TO LIVE bringing Michael McBain to life for legions of fans. He leaves the show with our sincere appreciation for his many contributions and our support as he addresses personal challenges. We wish him well." Marston is to appear in criminal court of the City of New York February 4, 2008 on several assault and reckless endangerment charges.

Memorable Quotes

"I don't sweat bad neighborhoods. I like having to look over my shoulder." — Soap Opera Digest, 8/4/98

"How come no one on soap operas ever has a heroin problem?" — Digest, 8/10/99

"I've always had a strange thing where people were drawn [to me]. If there were seven people walking down the street and someone was going to pick a fight with one of them, I was the guy. I was always the guy. I used to tell my grandma, 'Those people are looking at me.' She thought I was nuts until one day she [noticed it] and said, 'People really do stare at you.'
