THE 411
Murray Bartlett was born in Sydney and has one older brother, Richard. Bartlett first began attending speech and drama-type classes at a young age to help correct a speech impediment that was caused by a childhood accident and the loss of several teeth. "I got my teeth knocked out with a hammer by my brother when I was really young," he explained to Digest in 2007. "I didn't have any teeth and I couldn't say my S's very well."
After graduating high school, Bartlett enrolled in Australia's acclaimed National Institute of Dramatic Art, where his classmates included Hollywood heavy-hitter Cate Blanchett (it's also the alma mater of Paul Leyden, ex-Simon, ATWT). Upon completion the rigorous drama program, the actor had no trouble finding roles. He made several appearances on stage, as well as on Australian soap operas and TV series. He also starred with Hugh Jackman in the Australian touring production of The Boy From Oz.
Bartlett came to the States in 2000 and immediately landed a prime guest spot on SEX AND THE CITY. It wasn't until Bartlett signed on as Springfield's love-to-hate-him bad guy, Cyrus Foley, in 2007 that he decided to stay stateside for good. He's currently applying for his green card.
