The 411
When James Hyde graduated from high school, he joined the Army and became a field medic, work he loved because it gave him the opportunity to make a difference and save lives. While stationed in Hawaii, he was spotted by a photographer and before long the 6-foot-1-inch Hyde became a favorite model of such designers as Versace, Ferre and Valentino. After modeling, Hyde briefly tried his hand at singing and was lucky enough to receive a demo deal with Elektra Records. Hyde studied acting in Miami and then moved to Los Angeles to pursue that career full time. In his spare time, Hyde enjoys reading, antique shopping and playing basketball.
Et Cetera
—Though he never appeared on an episode of SUNSET BEACH, Hyde was featured on the promos for the show before production started.

Memorable Quotes
"We were both going out with different people at the time. We liked each other but each of us had obligations. A year later I ran into her in Milan, Italy, just walking down the street. By this time neither of us had other obligations. We sat outside this little place in Milan, drank some wine, and talked and listened to one another. We've been together ever since....Yeah, I believe we were fated to be together. Before I met Sue-Ling I had no focus in my life. Being with her over the years has helped me so much. She doesn't believe me sometimes but I'm here today because of her."—on his wife, Soap Opera Weekly, 8/12/97
"What I'm trying to do with this part (Sam) is set a great example for men. I can make this guy strong and also show him to be a guy who loves his wife, and his children, and make it kind of cool that people can do that."—Weekly, 9/21/99
