GL WEEK OF JANUARY 12, 2009 RECAPS
Week of Monday, January 12, 2009
Thursday, January 15, 2009
After spying Coop and Beth kissing, Lizzie accidentally knocked over a potted plant and quickly rushed off. Beth freaked out by the surprising interruption and told Coop to leave. After, Lizzie approached again and apologized to Beth for breaking the pot. A fearful Beth froze and assured Lizzie that what she saw isn't really what she thinks. Outraged, Lizzie called Beth's bluff and told her she was selfish for ignoring Lizzie's own struggle and loneliness in the aftermath of the kidnapping. Beth tried to explain, but Lizzie coldly reminded her mom that that Coop is her ex-fiancé
and that seeing them together makes her sick. Beth panicked when Lizzie threatened to tell Alan.
At Spaulding-Lewis, Alan informed Bill that he's taking Lizzie to New York City to meet with investors. Bill didn't believe that Lizzie would side with her grandfather and called Spaulding out on being jealous and purposely keeping Bill away from Lizzie. Alan vowed to win Lizzie over and reestablish her power at Spaulding. Later, Bill sneaked into Lizzie's room and contemplated reading her diary. Before opening it, he reminded himself of what happened the last time he read it (losing Lizzie's trust!), but reasoned that he needs to help her so he browsed it anyway. Bill was moved by what Lizzie wrote: 'she doesn't want the kidnapping, the worst experience of her life, to define her and she hopes that, even without knowing the truth of who did it, she can eventually turn it into something good.'
At the police station, Shayne grabbed the fax about Lara from Reva. He got emotional as he described the deceased girl to his parents and Dinah, saying that she was the love of his life, that they were going to get married and that he wishes he had the chance to say good-bye to her before she died. Josh said he could sense something was wrong with Shayne even before he visited him abroad. Everyone was sympathetic as Shayne explained what
happened to Lara. She died in the field in the same land mine explosion that hurt Shayne's legs. Reva cried for her son and blamed Dinah for dredging up Shayne's past and making him hurt all over again. Dinah stormed out; Reva followed. The women started arguing, jealous about each others' relationships with Shayne. Dinah railed at Reva for not giving Shayne the space he needs and begged her to let him lean on Dinah because she's the
only person he's opened up to.
Back at the mansion, Beth tried to reason with Lizzie, pointing out that she understands how Lizzie feels and brought up the fact that SHE used to be with Bill! Alan caught the duo fighting, but Lizzie covered and didn't spill the beans. Alan brought up New York City. Lizzie volunteered to accompany him on the trip, just to make Beth upset. Lizzie then hugged Alan, who was excited to have his family on his side again.
Dinah found Shayne at the pond and called him out for lying about Lara and demanded the truth. Shayne admitted it wasn't an accident; he killed Lara. He explained that he was going to ask her to marry him, but he didn't properly clear the land mine field (because he was distracted by the proposal) and when she surprised him with a visit, she got caught in the explosion that he was supposed to prevent. Shayne stood up from his wheelchair and angrily took the blame for killing Lara, adding that it should've been him. Dinah apologized to Shayne for making him relive his
grief but said she knows it did him some good and pointed out that he's walking.
Reva, meanwhile, yelled at Jeffrey and Josh for having a drink at Company while Shayne's in the middle of a crisis. She scolded Jeffrey for helping Dinah. Josh stood up for Jeffrey, however, saying that Reva should back off and let someone (who is not so overwhelmed with a pregnancy and cancer) take the initiative to help Shayne, even Dinah. Feeling bullied, Reva stormed off in a huff. Outside, Reva saw a mysterious man pick up the fax about Lara and make a call, saying "It's what we feared; she's dead." After seeing Shayne stand up, Reva went back inside and apologized to Jeffrey for not appreciating him more. Then she asked Jeffrey to investigate the mystery man.
Coop caught up with Beth in the parking lot outside of school. He admitted that he overheard Lizzie and Beth bickering earlier and asked Beth to use the opportunity to come clean with Alan once and for all. Beth said she needs space and remained fearful that someone would see them together in public. Then she told Coop he's being a hopeless romantic; he urged her to tell Alan so that his romantic fantasy with her can become a reality.
Bill confronted Lizzie as she was packing for New York and urged her not to go, adding that Alan is manipulating her and using her pain to change her into someone like him. She refused to listen and finished packing. Bill begged her not to change because she's already perfect. Later, Alan made hotel arrangements for New York and waited for Lizzie to show up at the airport. When Lizzie stepped outside to meet him, however, Bill suddenly grabbed her from behind and put his hand over her mouth so she couldn't scream.
