At WorldWide, Paul finished dictating a letter, then dealt with Craig's "pending correspondence." At the farm, it was bad news for Meg: Craig can't be found, so no divorce for her. Paul stopped by and faced Guard Emma (who threatened to get a shotgun if he caused trouble) before delivering Craig's paperwork. Meg tossed it and asked for the real reason for his visit. Surprise surprise, he was looking for an excuse to see her. She reiterated that it's over between them and rejected his offer to help her track down Craig. Once he left, Emma urged Meg not to close her heart off because of Paul. "All I know is that if Paul breaks my heart again it will kill me,"
said Meg.
Gwen and Will arrived at the hospital to check on Hallie Munson, but the
nurse didn't have news about Hallie Duran for non-family members. That's
when Sofie arrived and took them aside and in a tearful, somewhat
scatterbrained, oddly self-absorbed speech, she accepted blame for
everything that's gone wrong and offered to give them the baby back. Again. After saying another good-bye to Hallie, she naturally ran off to cry to
Chris (having just been told by an apologetic Bob that he's been exonerated by the hospital review board, who determined he was drugged without his knowledge), who didn't know about Hallie because he'd been suspended — thanks to Paul. Sofie rusehd off to confront Paul, who swore that he didn't drug Chris and that he hasn't lied to her "yet." He then offered to let her use of one of his attorneys, but she reported that she doesn't need one because she's not reversing the adoption. Paul inexplicably called her "one of the bravest people that I've ever known," and offered all of his help, though he resisted putting up his entire fortune at her disposal. Still, she turned him down. Paul, still stinging from Meg's rejection, coolly wished Sofie luck, but noted that she'll soon realize that being alone sucks. She insisted that she doesn't want to sound ungrateful. "I am this poor, pitiful girl who got herself pregnant by a jerk.... I have failed at everything I've tried. I'm a loser," Sofie said (she got that right),
arguing that she has to take control of her own life.
Jack and Carly, having determined that just proving that Kit was in town
when Sam was shot is enough to prove that she stumbled upon Parker's crime
scene, picked up the rifle and fired the second shot (which turned out to be
fatal) disagreed about whether a store receipt is enough to link Kit to
Oakdale. Since Katie pointed out that Jack is still unwell, Carly volunteered to get the store clerk to ID Kit. She rushed off on her mission, while Jack.... fainted. Katie rushed him to the hospital, where with the nurse's encouragement, she played along as a delirious, septic Jack blabbered (semi) incoherently about how great it is that they're married. She was a little embarrassed when he woke up later and lucidly asked about Carly, but eventually started to tell him about what he was saying while he
was groggy. Meanwhile, the liquor store owner didn't recognize Kit, but
Carly went searching for the homeless lady, but still came up empty. She
barged in on Katie and Jack's awkward moment to sob that she failed their
son.
When the Munsons took their daughter home, Will worried that Sofie will change her mind again and didn't want to live the rest of his life anticipating her next freak-out. His solution? Leave town, get a fresh start. (And break our Will-lovin' hearts.) "I'll go anywhere with you," said Gwen, but insisted that they get Sofie's consent first. Will reluctantly agreed, so they summoned Sofie and told her their plan for the future.

Brad and Bonnie were doing their thing — that is, tequila shots — this time at Yo's. He had just been wowed by her smartness (she knows where tequila comes from) when Katie arrived at the bar and ordered a glass of wine. Bonnie insisted that they invite his co-host to join them, but Brad argued that Katie would decline. In fact, he bet her $10 that Katie would say no. Bonnie won and soon Katie was sauced and bonding with Brad over their
OAKDALE NOW hijinks, spit-takes and snort laughs, then literally fell off of
their stools — all of which quickly turned Bonnie into the third wheel. Well, she would have been the third wheel if she hadn't passed out on the bar. Katie jumped up and pulled Brad into a slow dance, which got
uncomfortably close for her. Luckily, the music soon changed so that she
could start dancing wild. Brad tried to stop her dance-off and get her to
talk; instead she rushed out the door. He chased after her and she burst
into tears, claiming that it's because she's so happy. Brad didn't really
get that, but they were both too drunk to dwell on it. They went back inside
and collected Bonnie. "Hey, we're not finished, you and me," said Brad as
they carried their passed-out friend. "I know," responded Katie.
Holden was surprised to find Aaron at home and digging into Emma's beer
supply so soon. It turns out that Julie's exploratory surgery showed that
she's going to be fine, so she sent her son back to Oakdale with a
heart-to-heart, urging him to take care of his unfinished business. For
Aaron, that means Sofie. Holden (filling in for Emma) urged Aaron to follow his heart, but be prepared for things to work out differently from what he expects.
Sofie reiterated that she gave Hallie to Gwen and Will, so they can take her
whereever they want, but did admit that she didn't expect them to leave
town. As Will clearly held his tongue, Gwen insisted that they wouldn't
leave without her permission. That's when Barbara arrived. Will immediately
told his mother of their plans. Sofie stood by looking typically wistful
while a tearful Babs questioned the "sudden," "drastic" decision. The young Munsons assured her that they wouldn't go far, that they'd come back for the holidays and both she and Sofie were welcome to visit them. "All I really want is for you guys to be happy," sobbed Barbara. Sofie gave her
permission, then left. At the Lakeview, she ran into Aaron, who'd just
gotten his job back. "I came back to make things right with you," he
announced. Sofie assured him that she's not mad anymore and they agreed to be friends.
Barbara ran into Sofie at the Lakeview later and thanked her for "doing the
right thing." Sofie urged her to tell Gwen and Will about her cancer before
they leave. Back at the cottage, Will — clearly itching to get out of town — had already done a ton of research on where the Munsons can move. Barbara returned and announced that she has something important to tell them.
Gray, dressed as an FBI agent, easily bypassed the cop guarding Matt's room and picked his old flunkie up at gunpoint, just missing a curious Alison, who decided to catch up to get a last word with Matt. Margo was having no luck with the FBI on the phone when an agent arrived. After sorting out their Keystone Kops-like screw-up, Margo put out an APB. Meanwhile, Gray forced Matt to summon Casey to the Hughes house, while Alison tailed them in her car. When Casey ran into her outside, she reported what she knew. Suspicious, confused Casey (son of a cop!) figured that the best way to get to the bottom of the situation was to go inside, where Gray greeted them with a gun. He quickly tied them up all three of them, then threatened to kill Ali unless Casey called Margo and asked her to meet him there. (Gray even went along with the ruse by getting on the phone and pretending to be Casey's parole officer.) She rushed right over and fell into the same trap as her son. "Finally, I get revenge for the death of my brother," announced Gray. Margo said that Nevins got what he deserved; Gray responded by knocking her to the ground, causing Casey to struggle helplessly against his bonds. After also tying up Margo, Gray ordered her to get Tom to come home. "You're gonna kill me anyway," hissed Margo, refusing. Dropping that subject, Gray decided to take a moment to explain how he's been waiting to serve his revenge cold, then finally just gagged Margo, before setting a cartoony-looking bomb and taking off.

Meg had a heart-to-heart with Parker, who matter-of-factly pointed out that
Emma made his favorite muffins because she knows he's going to jail
tomorrow. "We need to face the facts: I shot Sam, there's no way to prove
that I didn't kill him," declared our little realist, clearly the heir
apparent to departing Will, who was hearing that his mom has cancer — which
she thinks might have been caused by the HPV virus. "There are never any
guarantees in life," sighed a tearful Barbara when he asked if she'd be
okay. Will was sweetly, heartbreakingly devastated and barely kept it
together and immediately insisted that he wouldn't be moving away because
she has to take priority now. Barbara was incredibly moved to hear that, but
begged that they not change their plans because of her. Will then ordered
her to tell Paul. When she left, Gwen knew just what to say to comfort Will
and assured him it was okay if they don't move right away.
Paul had been summoned to the Snyder farm by Meg to urge a surly Parker to
keep the faith. Parker wanted his old psychic friend to combine their
special powers to help him remember what happened the night of Sam's death.
Paul couldn't do much, but encouraged him to let out his emotions and his
memory will come back. "It was great to talk to you. It might be a while
before we get to do it again," shrugged Parker, skeptically taking the warm
milk that Meg forced on him.
That's when Barbara — having been directed there by the Fairwinds staff &mash;
showed up to break the news of her illness. "I'm here now, okay. I'm going
to help however I can," said Paul, who has all but wished her dead on more
than one occasion. (Those Ryan sons are so forgiving!) Meanwhile, Meg was
totally eavesdropping, so after Babs left, she strolled out to the patio to
offer her sympathy and nursing knowledge. "I'm so glad I came here today,"
he said somberly &mash; and she was, too.
Henry and Vienna had been in bed for 24 hours straight, but he put their
marathon sex session to make her promise that she'd never sleep with another
man. "There are no guarantees in life," she said, echoing today's theme, but
vowed that she loves him and doesn't want to lose him.
Casey, Matt, Alison and Margo all struggled to untie themselves as the bomb
ticked down ... but didn't go off (good job, Gray!). Matt warned Margo that
Gray could come back and kill her and guiltily noted that he should have
warned her earlier. Margo was fine to call "bygones" on it because he risked
his life to save them. Tom arrived and untied everyone while Margo called
the bomb squad and Matt apologized to everyone who would listen (and even a
few who wouldn't). They all stood outside (about 15 feet from the possibly
still dangerous bomb) as Tom noted that Gray's beef should be with him and
Margo sobbed that she can't even protect her own family. Matt was taken off
by the FBI (who may not charge him if he cooperates), Susan collected Ali
and accusingly wondered how she got involved. Both Casey and Ali separately
declared their hunger brought on by a near-death experience. Alison and
Susan went to Al's, where Vienna was disgusted to hear that her last lover
is a psycho. The Hughes had soup and sandwiches after Tom said grace, then
unwound while watching CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM (or at least that's the theme
music we heard). After that, they all went to bed. That's when Gray snuck
out of a closet (good job, FBI!) and turned on the TV so that the music from
Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves blared (big day for the music department!),
waking up Margo. Just then, Alison stopped by to pick up her forgotten coat.
Spotting Gray's gun sticking around the corner, Ali grabbed Margo and threw
her to the ground as he fired. Tom ran down and wrestled with Gray while
Margo tried to get a shot. "My brother always said you were soft," said
Gray, after getting the upper hand and holding the gun on Tom. With that,
Margo shot him dead. Alison screamed and clutched at a conveniently
shirtless Casey's chest. The coroner carted off the body; Tom said it would
likely be declared self-defense (tell that to Parker); Susan collected
Alison, and the not-nearly-contrite-enough FBI agent declared the case
closed. After everyone was gone, Tom held Margo.

Luke and Noah met up outside of Java. Amira joined them and they left for
the trial.
At the station, Brad expressed concern about a highly rattled Katie. He
wanted to know what had happened between her and Jack at the hospital. Katie revealed that she had played along when a hallucinating Jack thought she was still his wife but that he had ultimately come to his senses and asked for Carly.
Carly and Jack lamented their inability to save Parker. Carly resolved to go
to Chicago to track down the woman she believed could clear his name. Jack
insisted on coming. They drove off in search of the woman. Carly thought she spotted her and they took off running. Carly caught up to her. They begged the woman, Ruby, for info about Kit killing her boyfriend. Ruby was terrified about what would happen to her if she came forward but confirmed that Kit shot Sam. Finally they got the woman to agree to testify.
In the Snyder kitchen, Meg handed Parker a supportive card from Sage and Holden had a gift from JJ for Parker. Lily, Emma and Holden tried to raise Parker's spirits. Parker was mad when he heard the news that Jack and Carly wouldn't be at the courthouse. Paul showed up and calmed Parker down. Everyone left for court. There, Meg thanked Paul for being there in the midst of everything going on with his mom. Tom noted to Holden and Parker that whatever Jack and Carly, they should do it fast, because the judge wanted to resolve the case that day. Tom called Parker to the stand and questioned him about why Parker believed that Sam intended to do harm to Carly. Parker explained what he had overheard Sam saying and described his journey to Metro on the night of the shooting, then described his mom's struggle to get free from Sam's attack. Parker struggled to say the words, that Sam was going to rape Carly. Amira became upset and ran out of the courtroom; Noah followed and Amira spoke of the "terrible things" Parker's account had reminded her of.... Parker testified that he shot Sam to stop the rape but wasn't trying to kill him. He said that he fired the gun only once and that that contradicted his previous statement because when he was first questioned by the cops, his memory wasn't clear. The attorneys issued their closing remarks. Tom assured Parker that it wasn't too late, should Jack and Carly turn something up.... Luke came to check on Amira and Noah; Amira dashed off again. Noah explained that Amira had seen many women in Iraq raped and their rapists go unpunished. The judge quickly returned with a verdict of guilty. Jack and Carly burst into the courtroom with news of their last-minute witness. "Our son is innocent!" Carly declared. The judge decided to allow testimony from the witness. Ruby testified that Kit had told her that she killed Sam and was letting Parker take the fall.

An exonerated Parker was surrounded by well-wishers including Tom (who
thanked Jack and Carly for doing all the work), Emma (who promised a
celebratory apple pie), Brad and Katie (who was thanked for her support in
spite of any romantic awkwardness with Parker's dad), Meg and Paul (who used the good news to get flirty) and of course Carly and Jack (who had the good sense to laugh when his son called him "the best detective on the force"). After thanking Ruby the homeless woman for her help, they all went home for a celebration party (though only Brad and Katie could make it), where Parker got a card from Sage ("I am glad you are free" was the sentiment) and a cheerful welcome from J.J. Katie joined Carly in the kitchen to make sandwiches and they called a truce; Brad and Jack guessed whether the women would kill each other and Brad suggested that Jack recover at Carly's instead of overcrowded Emma's. Katie and Carly rejoined the guys and they were quibbling about condiments (with some innuendo about what it means for them as couples) when Margo called to report that Brad and Katie's money has been found in Kit's bank account; that's when Jack and Carly also learned that Brad got poisoned by Gray because of their work reuniting Henry and Vienna. "Sounds like you guys make a good team," noted a thrilled Carly. Later, Jack insisted to her that Katie and Brad are just friends. That's what Carly wants from Jack, she claimed, offering to let him convalesce in Milltown. Parker was already back to his awesomely surly self by the end of the day. They found him sulking outside and assured him of their love, then pulled him into a group hug.
Paul gave Meg and Emma a ride home, after which Emma was still cold but Meg had warmed up enough to offer him some coffee. That's when divorce papers arrived for her from Craig. She was delighted to finally be rid of her
husband, but forbade Paul from calling the cops to report Craig's overture.
"He tried to kill me," pointed out Paul, but Meg wouldn't hear of it and
again evaded his request that they start over romantically. He wasn't
encouraged by her "wait and see" attitude, but she suggested than an offer of good faith is the best he's gonna get right now. "You make me want to be a better guy," he said, grinning goofily, but took it back when she noted that that's what Craig used to say. When she hugged him, he flinched, supposedly because of his invisible burns. "It's okay," he grimaced. "It won't hurt forever."
Vienna and Henry were still basking in their reunion sex when she produced
the diamond necklace from Gray and whispered a sweet nothing about how much it's worth in his ear. "That's a lot of martinis," he gushed, as they started making out again. That's when the FBI banged on the door. The agent
instantly bagged the necklace as evidence, then arrested Vienna when she couldn't provide any details about where Gray might have stashed the rest of his money. Bonnie met Henry at the station, where the FBI was questioning V. "I know Vienna; she doesn't really have a head for figures," snarked Bonnie, arguing with the agent, as Vienna and Henry actually tried to sneak out. Henry called her his fiancĂ©e and insisted that Vienna doesn't know anything. Indeed, she piped in (after being excited to be called his fiancée), adding
that Gray used to go to the diner's kitchen when he got a phone call. "The
kitchen!" exclaimed Henry, and they all raced off to investigate. The FBI
found what he's looking for — a bank account number — then ripped up the deed that had been signed over to Gray as a favor to Henry. So everyone basically goes back to where they started a couple of months ago.
Margo spotted a blood stain on her carpet and set about cleaning it up with some ineffective soapy water (as opposed to a nice rug cleaner or spot
lifter, which surely P&G must make), but the damned spot wouldn't come out. As she worked, she flashed back to her rape and started to break down. "I scrubbed and I scrubbed and I scrubbed. I don't know what to do ... I can't make it go away," she sobbed when Tom found her. She admitted that she hadn't thought about her trauma in so long that she'd almost convinced herself that it was a bad dream. In fact, she's having such trouble separating her personal life from her job that she wants to quit the force, but Tom urged her not to, noting that her job "defines" her. She agreed and they shared a warm moment. Katie rushed over to comfort her sister, but Margo wanted to change the subject, so Katie indulged her by seeking advice about her love life. Margo counseled that you can't have a future unless you let go of the past, so it seems like she's on Team Brad. At Al's, Bonnie and Brad looked on disgustedly at Vienna and Henry's various public displays of affection. Bonnie accepted that Brad's totally hung up on Katie, but he sadly lamented that Katie only has eyes for his brother.
