GH Wardrobe Director Shawn Reeves dishes Olivia’s wedding look.
When you found out Olivia was getting hitched to Ned, what were your first thoughts about what a woman from Bensonhurst would wear while marrying into a wealthy family? “Well, it’s not the first time I’ve put a wedding dress on Olivia — she almost married Steve in the hospital — so I was like, ‘Okay, what are we going to do this time?’ This was kind of a smaller, evening wedding, and my first thoughts were, ‘Do I want to do an evening gown sort of deal? Do I want to do a wedding dress?’ Ultimately, I ordered a couple of evening gown-type things and wedding dresses, and the whole time, in the back of my head, I’m going, ‘You know what? This is Olivia. It’s really her first wedding. She’s going to be in a wedding gown, regardless. That’s just who she is.’ I also thought that it needed to have a little extra flourish to celebrate and represent her Bensonhurst roots — not too much, but enough.”
Where did you find the gown you settled on? “David’s Bridal. They have my sizes, a really great selection of dresses and good prices.”
In the story, Olivia had a last-minute crisis with her dress. Did you have any real-life mishaps? “Well, the dress that we initially had ordered wasn’t the right size, so we sent it back. When I went to finalize the order online, all of a sudden it tells me the dress that I want in the size I want is back-ordered until November! I was sitting at home on a Saturday afternoon and my heart sank. I was like, ‘No, no, this can’t be!’ Luckily, I found the dress in a slightly different color combination at a David’s Bridal in Riverside, about an hour-and-a-half away. I said, ‘Hold the dress!’ Sunday morning, I got in the car and I drove to Riverside.”
What was different about the coloring? “In this version, the lining of the dress is one color and the lace is a different color, so there’s a contrast. I usually don’t go that route, but I was like, ‘As they say on PROJECT RUNWAY, it’s a “make it work” moment.’ It was actually perfect, because I knew that on camera, the contrast was going to give it enough dimension, but not be obvious. So, we’d actually see the pretty lace, and it would look really great on camera.”
Her jewelry is very simple. “Yes, she’s wearing Nadri jewelry. In the original script, there was mention of a family piece, like an heirloom necklace, but when they write stuff like that, they always leave it open to the idea that maybe the dress won’t support it. So, I just kind of put it out there that I thought that would be too much. I was like, ‘You know what, it’s such a beautiful neckline. We’re going to do beautiful hair, pretty earrings. That’s all you need.’ ”
What about the veil? “We have a stock of veils and I just pulled this one from that stock. I didn’t want to do a blusher, the piece that comes over the face. I haven’t done a blusher in a very long time. I wanted something really simple and pretty that sat on the back of her head. I really like those kind of veils.”
