Blogging With Gabby
August 28, 2008
It's been a while since I blogged; my apologies. Where
to start? Between the Mets, MAD MEN, and MSNBC for political stuff, there's been a lot of nighttime TV viewing lately. Still crazy about OLTL, too. It appears the 1968 stuff has wrapped up. I really, really enjoyed it. It was so charming when Bo (Robert S. Woods at his best) returned home and spent so much time doing double takes and smiling. He saw Clint and Jared (who was also 1968's Clint) together. Then Dallas charged in, played by Loyita Chapel, who also played Renee in 1968. (There's a wink to the audience here, as Chapel is married to Woods.) It was all very charming. I loved it and will miss it.

I've gushed over this before (and no, it's not about MAD MEN, so stop rolling your eyes), and I will continue to gush until ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Rex, Gigi and Bo are back in 2008 for good. I am finding the scenes set in Paris, Texas 40 years ago a pure delight. Watching John-Paul Lavoisier's (Rex/Bo) face whenever the word Vietnam is mentioned guarantees an automatic smile, but I'm also really enjoying John Brotherton's turn as young Clint. He's hysterical. I loved the moment earlier this week when young Clint spotted Prof. Fina and hollered (I have
to use the word holler here; it's so Texas/Clint like), "Who is that!"
Brotherton was completely befuddled at that strange little man talking about
odd things. I LOLed. Then I caught it on SOAPnet and LOLed all over again.
Also, Robert S. Woods (Bo//Asa) is deliciously adorable whenever he tries to be
gruff Asa. You just want to hug him, he's so cute.
But I won't. Enjoy the rest of 1968 on OLTL.

So, how many of your have started to watch MAD MEN? Hmmm? 'Fess up. I'm
loving it and loving the Monday morning office discussion I have with
a colleague. It's such a fun show to watch closely and study. It's been
forever since I've felt that way about a show.
I am the backup editor for THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. The scenes around Sabrina's death were magnificent. Those were the scenes that make Y&R the No. 1 show. Brilliant. Compelling. Yet, I agree with our readers (that would be YOU OUT THERE) who are upset that Sabrina is gone. She did grow on me too, and apparently made Victor very happy.
Now, we've got ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Love everything in 1968. Do not love
anything in Mendorra. From some future news stories I've been working on
(and chatting with John-Paul Lavoisier and Farah Fath) the stuff will be
getting even better in the weeks to come. We'll cover it all in Soap Opera Weekly.

I was over at daytime confidential. I wanted to say it is nice to see that you wanted to see the triangle between the teens too. I was getting into the Langston and Cole pairing. I was very disappointed with this strike because it seems like the writers changed directions. Everything moved so fast into this Starr is pregnant storyline. I really hope RC finds a way to change this. Thanks for your support
I agree on both counts...Bree was AWESOME in her scenes! And when she went off on Nat all I could think was "WOW"!. And Vincent is the ONLY reason I continue to tune in to CI. His character is so complex and intriguing.
Hi Gabby, Thanks for the blog. I've been waiting since last night to have someone voice what I was thinking also. I totally agree with you on all counts. It was wonderful to see Jeanne Cooper win. It was long overdue. I also thought the red carpet interviews were rushed. They kept cutting people off after the interviewers had asked them a question, so they could not finish answering it. That was very frustrating. I ALSO did not understand why One Life to Live could win best writing and directing and not win best show. It seemed like a shoe-in to me, so it felt like a slap in the face when General Hospital won. OLTL deserved to win best show. I thought they were robbed. I watch 3 soaps, and it is by far the best. Thanks for letting me vent. There's always next year, I guess.
I only watch 3 soaps and by what I have read in the magazines. I feel that they have decided that since the shows like YR GL ATWT did not recevied alot of the awards in the past they are trying to fix it that they all get the majority of the votes. They should go back to how they voted before I feel it is far. I also agree that OLTL should of won best show. But I will take GH winning they have some good actors there.
MVP was NOT a hit in Canada. I don't know anyone who actually saw a whole episode. And given how we love our hockey up here, that's a pretty good indication of how cheesy it is.
yeah, MVP wasn't a hit , it was cancelled and bought up by Soapnet, a rare happening for a Canadian show ( to be bought by any US network).... but if any Canadian show got the same amount of promotion as SoapNet is giving MVP it would be bound to be a hit! English shows in Canada don't get billboards ever!
After watching the Daytime Emmy Awards last week, I was disappointed. Why? Because it seemed to me that it was all about One life to Live and The Young and the Restless. And while I will not discredit them in anyway (I don't watch those shows but I'm sure they're good.) I felt as if Days of our Lives did not get any credit on their work whatsoever. The writers on Days have been doing a very good job keeping the storylines fresh and up to date, and the actors are excellent as well. So next year, I'd like to see some variety in the winners, and not just the same shows!
