Sorry I haven't blogged in a while. I took a vacation to Jamaica, and it's all I can do to keep up with my Digest and Weekly columns! (I didn't watch any soaps on the island, so I sure had a lot of catching up to do.) I got home just in time to attend the ONE LIFE TO LIVE 40th Anniversary luncheon at ABC today, which was excellent. Speakers included EP Frank Valentini, ABC honcho Brian Frons and creator Agnes Nixon. Most of the cast was there, too. We just got the pics and they're classic. "You know you've made it," quipped Bob Woods (Bo) to me, "when they move you closer to the cake." More in a future issue!

Yikes! We just finished putting together our special Emmy issue (on sale July 4) and wow, is it chock full of photos and behind-the-scenes stories. I even have one interview in there that I conducted in the hotel pool! A lot of people might have thought I was nuts splashing around with my tape recorder, but not Kim Zimmer (Reva, GL) and Hillary B. Smith (Nora, OLTL). They're just as crazy as I am, which of course I mean as a huge compliment.

As for the photos, where do I begin? Even though I was at the live show at the Kodak Theatre and every party and every after-party (and then hung in the hotel lobby bar after THAT), there was still stuff that I missed. So, narrowing down the thousands of photos into the hundreds we could put in the magazine was difficult. We wanted to run every one! I especially enjoyed the soap star reunions — ATWT's Maura West (Carly) and Shawn Christian (ex-Mike, now Daniel on Days) and GL's Bradley Cole (ex-Richard now Jeffrey) and Laura Wright (ex-Cassie, now Carly on GH) — to name just two that we caught.

I think the Emmy issue of Weekly captures the genuine FUN that everyone has all together at the Emmys. As GL Executive Producer Ellen Wheeler said to Hillary and me at the pool, "This is like Camp Soap!"

I luv your online blog, but it it very sporadic. I kept thinking you would write something about Micheal being shot on GH, and the rumer of his recast. Please at least say it ain't so on the recast. I have watched GH since I was a teen, 35 yrs now, and have forgivin a lot of stupid crap, but not this time. Besides the show is gerring just tooooooo dark for me. I dont want to see daily murder. Love and romance and travel, with the occasional who-doen-it,that is all I need, and I seem to be finding it in B & B love this show, except brooke.but it is exciting and glam and has this coo-coo lady whois so funny, she is from the wonder yrs. of all places. Lovin it! But I still hold out hope that GH can be saved, but I for 1 am fixing to leave it,especially if Michael is recast. Thanks for listening. Kae Vaughn kaekae6@grandecom.net

Carolyn, Love your blogs! Wish you would post more often. Your Opinion article in SOD is always my favorite, too!

Carolyn - As a follower of ATWT for 10 yrs, I titally agree with what you have been writing. They have lost (death, boredom, unfair contracts) many of the main actors & recast/now inturns just don't cut it. The stories have either gone on & on or are trite. Doubt I will continue to watch nor continue my Soap Opera Digest sub. I will miss your Opinions.

Carolyn, when are you going to report whether Forbes March is out as Nash on OLTL? I'm through with the show when that happens. Please let me know. Thanks.

I love, love, love your blogs, please do them more often!

I really hate what GH is doing to the character of Ian Devlin. What started out as a fascinating, multi-layered character under Garin Wolfe has seemed to de-volve into just another mob caricature, post-strike. It worries me because I don't see any more investment in the character, and that's usually bad news. Seamus Dever is a real gem of an actor, and TPTB need to see what they have before he's ruined permanently. He needs to be put on contract and given a coherent story, now!! thanks for letting me vent, Carolyn.

Hey, are you not going to blog anymore? Let me know and I can take you off my favorites list.

Carolyn, you CAN catch the missed Nuke kiss. CBS.com streams the episodes online, and so does MSN TV. Free, legal, and it counts in the "hits". Spreak the word.

Posted Thu Apr24, 2008, 1:12 AM — By Julie

I'm glad we didn't know about the kiss, made it much more delightful. I have to agree with their decision not to publicize. As Mark said, there are plenty of places to see it online. And really, if you're following the story, you would be taping anyway.

I'm glad we didn't know about the kiss because it was an AMAZING surprise. I'm still on cloud nine.

Posted Thu Apr24, 2008, 5:15 PM — By Bernard Jones aka

I personally feel is a brilliant move to NOT publicize the kiss: ATWT chose a route that asked viewers who were invested in Luke & Noah to actually watch the show to see what would happen. Before the days of bulletin boards and spoilers and soap blogs, one had to actually WATCH a soap to know what was going on. There was the thrill of anticipation, of not knowing in advance how a character would act to a given piece of news or who would wind up in peril or if THIS was going to be the day the Big Secret was going to drop. These days when it comes to "events" there is a temptation among many fans to just tune in those days alone to check out what's happening. And then check right back out. We've seen it time and again. No one was duped or scammed or cheated out of an event they might have missed when it aired. Isn't the whole point of soaps that one is supposed to be WATCHING them to see what happens? ATWT took the best route possible by making must-see tv must SEE tv.

Publicizing the kiss would've treated it like a big deal... when it shouldn't be. I mean it IS a big deal, but I'm glad the show took the route of not acting like it was, instead portraying it as simply a realistic part of Luke and Noah's relationship. The thing is, it doesn't have to a big kiss like yesterday, the little ones, like a peck goodbye on today's show are important as well.

Oh my gosh, I dont know if I should feel sick or not, but I just finished watching B&B, and I think I know what is going to happen! Storm is going to kill himself and give Katie his heart! Is this sick or not! Don't know, but just had to vent somewhere!

You are never on here. I'm thinking I don't like your blog so much anymore! oh well, all good things must come to an end, but yet it seems like it just started.

I love your blog! Clearly I've been wasting too much time working. It's not fair to blame poor Ameera for anything in that lame plot. I believe the poor dear has suffered so many heat strokes from having to wear that head scarf thing in those hot Iraqi summers that she has no judgment left. I know I wouldn't. I'm going to say something nice about the Emmy noms. (I'm ok, don't worry.) I'm thrilled that Kelly M. Hensley was nominated! seems she's one of the always overlooked. It makes perfect sense that no ABC actress was deserving of a nomination. It's bad karma brought on by the imbeciles at AMC who offed Dixie with pancakes. My life is depressing. Did I tell you my precious Fred the Wonder Dog fell in love with Katie, a Yorkie, last fall, when I don't even have a suitor any more? I get dumped on New Year's Eve (VIA EMAIL, mind you),the dogs fall in love. Katie moved in with us. Please remember,if you have room for a dog in your life, get a shelter do

So we only feel ABC deserved to be in the mix for lead actress. What about Deidre Hall or Alison Sweeney? It has been obvious for years that CBS block votes especially Y&R which is why they got THREE younger actress noms when they shouldn't of gotten even one. That category better go to Landon or Melvin.

It was a thrill to see DAYS back in the game again with today's Emmy nominees. That show, despite wandering in the wilderness for much of the past 10 years, is back -- you turn it on, and there are your favorite vets. And it looks like a soap opera. (Actually, it looks/sounds like old Y&R, but I guess that's an Ed Scott thing -- thankfully!) I thought it was just me watching ATWT in decline, but it seems Emmy isn't feeling the love, either. As a schoolteacher, I would love to escape to Oakdale for the smart, hip, funny, family show I loved for years. Lately, it's just boring new people and stories that seem like leftovers from the Stern & Black era in the '90s. We can do better than this, people! Keep up the great work with the blog! I love reading what you have to say.

It was a pleasure to find your blog. I've always found your comments in SOD and SOW to be insightful and compelling. I suppose that comes with the territory, having invested over a decade in quality writing and interviews in relation to the soap genre. Of course I don't always agree; but I always respect your astute opinions. I've added this to my ever-growing collection of soap related bookmarks. And I'm sure to be reading this regularly. Thank you for your never-ceasing dedication to daytime television.

I'm so glad you are going to address the Emmy issue. If you aren't a fan of CBS shows (I'm a fan of ATWT) what is the point of even watching the Emmys? And ITA that so many talented Actors and Actresses are dismissed for the same list every year. And Vail Bloom is nominated but Kristin Alderson isn't? Are you kidding me!!!

I just wanted to say a great big Thank You for setting the record straight about the "Nuke" storyline on ATWT. A gay couple is fantastic and these "fairweather" fans are far too impatient. The people who complain do not understand soaps as you say, and think it's all some kind of political statement about being gay and it's NOT !! The way they are handling the story, as any other couple would be on the show, is fantastic. It depicts a relationship between two people (it doesn't matter if straight or gay) and should have no special treatment because of it. They have the same obstacles, complications, etc. I say keep on with the story just as it is an forget all the political stuff being thrown into it !! Thank you again for your right on target opinion.

I am beginning to like Daniel on "DOOL," but wish they would pair him with someone a little more age appropriate (other than Chelsea). I find it hard to believe that every man (yes, you Daniel) in Salem are not hot for Nicole. She has a wicked sense of humor, acts like a woman you can take out on the town for a nice date or throw down a six-pack with at the corner dive. Also, a wish the lighting department would "lighten" the show a little. Sometimes the sets look like they are filmed in a basement with candles for lighting.

I just want to say I totally agree with your piece in the May 27 issue of Soap Opera Digest. I am in utter shock that not one actress from an ABC soap was even nominated, but yet you had 3 from Y&R nominated. What is that all about? Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that your piece was right on the money!

Well...What about Grant Alexsander!! Ever since that sighting at OLTL, I've been looking for an update!!

Hi Carolyn, next time you're on the phone with your BFF Thorsten Kaye, can you ask him why or how he landed such amazing seats at the Tony Awards last Sunday? He had better seats than many of the nominees! Anyway, love the blogs, keep it up!

I was trying to find the picky picky section to post a comment about today's ATWT episode. Nancy made the comment that 3 generations were in the same room to celebrate Margo and Tom's anniversary. Nancy, Bob, Tom, and Daniel were in the room. Isn't that 4 generations?

My comment is about Erica Kane on AMC I adore Erica, but when she is vamping and acting like a brainless tramp like she was today, I can't stand the sight of her. It was an embarrassment to see a 62 year old woman desperate for a man's attention, espeically since this particular man couldn't keep any normal person awake for longer than 5 minutes. Erica had made such strides the last few years. Sure, she likes to flirt and she has made some mistakes but that makes her human. This makes her look like an aging, desparate,. brainless twit. Linda

I just writing to say hi and I am a big fan of your column and I do believe the Y&R is getting better than ever and I hope the ratings will reflect what the fans want. I use to love GH, but that show have gone downhill so long so fast that I just giving up on it. I have look at the ratings for it and it is at a 1.9. Hey, tptb, maybe you need to listen to the fans and stop shoving the Zacrazies down our throats everyday or a mob s/l that no one cares about or women acting dumb and stupid for some guy that doesn't even deserves it. I hope someone will listen and get rid of Guza and replace him with someone who love and respect the history of the soap and backburner Jason and Sonny and the mob for a year.

Hi Carolyn! What is the status with Kelly Monaco? You hardly see her anymore as Sam on General Hospital since she did Dancing with the Stars. Do you know if they are bringing her back more in future episodes? What happened? Michelle http://www.soapsagas.com
