Van Hansis (Luke, ATWT) and Jake Silbermann (Noah, ATWT)

From Jennifer Lenhart:
Have you ATWT fans heard about Project Holiday Spirit? It’s a campaign started by "Nuke" fans who wanted to get actors Van Hansis (Luke) and Jake Silbermann (Noah) holiday gifts, but — inspired by Hansis’s blog entry about the depressing commercialization of Christmas — decided to raise money for a worthy cause instead. They settled on donating to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and set a goal of $500, but as of today, they’ve raised over $3,500 for the charity. I think this is a wonderful way to show support and appreciation. It’s been done before (I remember fans of Michael Park, Jack, raised a bunch of money for a small cancer charity in his hometown), but I’m surprised it’s not done more often. At ATWT’s studio, I’ve seen dressing rooms filled with balloons, flowers, stuffed animals and candy; here at the Digest offices, every desk has some sort of fan campaign paraphernalia including commemorative plates, little plastic shoes, candy bars wrapped with slogans, rubber duckies, building blocks, even handcuffs. Those are all amusing, but I think it would be even more awesome (and attention-grabbing) if some of these groups took a cue from the Nuke fans and spent their money on something that could make a difference in two ways: getting the show to notice your dedication and helping those in need. I’ve actually talked to a few actors about the generosity and loyalty of soap fans, and I can tell you that they would cherish that kind of gift the most. Check out www.welovesoaps.com for how you can get into the holiday spirit, Nuke-style.
