From Jennifer Lenhart:
I was one of many, many people who were totally outraged by ATWT's inexplicable decision to have Carly lie about her terminal diagnosis to win Jack back. I thought it was a lazy twist, based on the most superficial grasp of her more complex (not to mention much smarter) character, who has evolved far beyond such a clumsy scheme. But with the way that she was being written, you were kind of forced to side with Jack, who was being duped yet again. And then the show had him pledge his undying devotion, swearing that he wasn't marrying her because she was dying, that her illness only made him realize his true feelings and blah blah blah. So by the time as he found out the truth, as far as I'm concerned, he didn't really have a good reason to be so angry. Sure, she told an awful lie and that's terrible, but isn't he a liar, too, for declaring that he wanted to be with Carly and then actually having the nerve to go back to Katie just because that forever got a little longer? I guess it’s nice that they leveled the playing field, though, and Carly’s not the only bad guy now. But what's most frustrating about all of this is that I actually loved the wedding — I thought Michael Park (Jack) and Maura West (Carly) were spectacular, and trust that everyone in the office heard me gushing like a freak about how much I adored the darling Will/Parker moments that preceded it, among other nice touches. It's so typical of ATWT lately — if you stand back and look at the long-term plots, they're kind of a mess, but those fantastic individual scenes sure make it worth watching.
