I am so very vexed by GUIDING LIGHT's Cassie and this whole Will thing. For starters, it's been so rushed: I feel like I got up from my desk for coffee and returned two months into a plot. But my main gripe is how her sudden shunning of RJ has rapidly turned her into one of daytime's worst moms. Here's how I see it: She wanted another child, suddenly remembered Will — who she had adopted but eventually sent to live with his bio dad — and brought him home lickety-split. Now that she has her shiny, new toy, she's taken on a cavalier attitude about RJ's sense of abandonment. Creepy little Damien, um, Will, can have cake for breakfast, but RJ can't catch a break. She's expecting a child to just adjust to a monumental change without doing much to show him that he's still a VIP. Also, this doesn't seem all that healthy for Cassie or fair to Will if she's looking at him as a replacement child for the late Tammy. And don't get me wrong, as an adoptee myself, I'm a strong advocate for adoption.

This is pretty much how I felt when ALL MY CHILDREN's Erica started jonesing for a second child in 1997. It got to the point where she kidnapped Maddie Grey, passing her off as a Russian adoptee. Whatever else she is, Erica had always been a good mom, so it made no sense to me when she started to overlook Bianca, who had to become anorexic to get her mother's attention again. But while the iconic Erica can survive a serious taint and bounce back, a so-so character like Cassie needs all the help she can get. This is not helping.
