Darnell Williams
Jesse (Darnell Williams) makes a leap
— ABC

From Joe Diliberto
Well, at least ALL MY CHILDREN ended the week on an exciting note: Pursuing Robert, who had kidnapped Angie at gunpoint and was trying to escape in a helicopter, Jesse leaped off the hotel rooftop in a desperate bid to grab a landing strut on the copter. Jesse was frozen in mid-leap, in an image that obviously paid homage to a signature shot from the movie The Matrix. On the big screen, a wounded Morpheus leaped off a building in a desperate bid to escape enemy Agents by reaching a helicopter piloted by Neo. Film Spoiler Warning! (He doesn't quite make it...) End Film Spoiler Warning For AMC, the moment was more Neo than Ne-Yo, who appeared earlier in the week, performing at Angie and Jesse's wedding. The entire helicopter sequence made extensive use of computer imagery. Luckily for him, Darnell Williams was filmed running and leaping against a green background, and not a real city rooftop. The scene did look a lot more realistic than the usual soap rooftop scene. But was all that action really what AMC viewers were looking for? I'd bet most fans tuned in to see the wedding and old friends at the reception — not to see Julia inexplicably gunned down (followed by the beloved Tad) and Angie hauled off with a gun at her ribs. All the shooting and jumping and peril would seem to me to be more at home over on GENERAL HOSPITAL (which started using green-screen for action earlier this year). What exactly was Jesse hoping to accomplish by grabbing the copter? It looked exceptionally dangerous to me to risk Angie’s life by upsetting the helo. Who knows how good a pilot Robert is? And what will Jesse do if he manages to disarm Robert? Land the helicopter himself? Is it too late for AMC to take The Matrix’s blue pill and let Jesse, Angie, Julia and Tad wake up safe in their own beds?
