Lizzie (Marcy Rylan) and Bill (Daniel Cosgrove) talk things over
|
From Joe Diliberto
When Bill camped outside Lizzie's window at Beth's house, I finally realized what has been bothering me about GUIDING LIGHT's new locations (all right, one of the things). And it wasn't the pathetic steal from the classic film Say Anything. It's been the lack of tall buildings. Where were all the big edifices that used to appear in backgrounds? Well, that finally changed today, when we got to see tall buildings for the very first time! Of course, the good citizens of Springfield may not be as happy as I am, because Ava puked off the top of one of those buildings. And there were towers in the background of the scene! It’s good to know such structures exist. In years past, the view outside "downtown" windows — such as the old Towers restaurant — depicted buildings that might qualify as skyscrapers. Where was anything taller than the lighthouse? Until today, all the new exteriors tended to look as stunted as the interiors are cramped. Springfield used to boast a well-developed (if deserted) downtown. Now, almost everything is rural (and deserted). Seems like every time a character steps outdoors now, they're going outdoors, slogging through mud and suffering through rain and snow. And the tiny indoor set now used for Main Street could not sound worse. Did you hear Marina shouting at Remy today? The echo effects are completely laughable when characters are supposed to be outdoors — unless they're supposed to be in a box canyon!
