From Mala Bhattacharjee
I'm one of those long-time GUIDING LIGHT watchers who would watch this show under any circumstances (though I did miss Ben's suicide and the whole Jeffrey-Marah affair), so this new "life happens here" twist, filming in Peapack, New Jersey, isn't a dealbreaker. In fact, I'd watch the show if it consisted of hand-drawn stick figures, as long as we still had talents like Kim Zimmer, Daniel Cosgrove, Jordan Clarke, and Marcy Rylan doing the voices — and whoever wrote today and yesterday's episodes doing the writing. Even if the hand-held cameras and the "real" filming style are a little hard to get used to, when you hear Billy telling Bill stories about H.B.'s love for Miss Martha or watch Reva remind Cassie that she's called Josh "Joshua" "since I was 5 years old," THAT's the GL we all know and love. I tune in for the history and the character interplay, not the tricks and the tropes and the nail salon. (How many manicures does a person need a week?!) So if watching pseudo home videos from Peapack continues to give me insight into my favorite characters and great scenes like Rick mangling "Yankee Doodle Dandy" in a jail cell, then I'm willing to go along for the ride.

My only questions? Did they really have to change the show's logo? Now that it says "GUIDINGLIGHT," all smushed together, I can't shake the feeling that it's spelled wrong. (My colleague Joe thought it looked fine until I pointed it out and now he's unsettled, too!) And how exactly was Daisy in THREE places at once during today's haphazard closing montage? She was at the gym playing basketball with Ashlee and Coop, in the church with Rafe and Natalia, AND hanging out with Billy at the Lewis Construction site. I know "cloning happens here," too, but I thought that was over and done with years ago...
