From Joe Diliberto
So who killed AS THE WORLD TURNS' Dusty? Lucinda thought the authorities were getting closer when she saw Emily at the police station. Hoping Holden was about to be cleared, she asked (rhetorically), "Does that mean somebody around this place is actually thinking for a change?" Well, sort of, Lucinda — but it's not the people you suspect. No, it's the-powers-that-be who took their smart pills before introducing Emily’s lawyer, who introduced himself as, "Trip Baker, Esq. You may have heard of me — I never lose a case." On most other soaps, Emily would have hired Bonnie (fresh off spurning Holden), but she used her brain. And, apparently, this is Mr. Baker's first trip to a soap town, because he insisted on using his brain, as well. He immediately reacted like a real lawyer: He quashed Jack's "unofficial" questioning of Emily after he was removed from the case (and without counsel); asked the prime suspect and his wife (Holden and Lily) be removed from the interrogation; demanded actual evidence be produced; protected Em from answering questions already addressed; and pulled his client out of a hostile environment. He even warned Jack to keep his distance by suggesting they "See what Margo Hughes has to say about your working sub rosa on a case in which your cousin is accused." That oughta trip 'em up, Trip! "You may want to think twice next time you try to throw me to the wolves," Em warned Lily. And now soaps should think twice before having characters hire lawyers with conflicted interests.
