The daughter of two actors, Judy Pace and Don Mitchell, acting seems to have been in the blood from the day Julia Pace Mitchell was born. In fact, as a kid, Mitchell often put on shows and entertained family and friends.

Encouraged by her mother to seriously study acting, Mitchell obliged. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and a Master of Fine Arts from the National Theatre Conservatory. She also studied classical theater at Oxford University and with the Groundlings.

Over the years, Mitchell has worked on stages across the country, from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to the Repertory Theater of St. Louis to New York's Hip-Hop Theatre Festival.

Mitchell is a gifted writer. She received multiple NAACP Theatre Award nominations for her work as a playwright for her one-woman show, The Interview, and The Hills Above the Hood, which also earned her Backstage West Awards for Best New Playwright, Best New Director and Best Performance.

The actress has had a successful film and television career, guest-starring on the prime-time hits COLD CASE and LAW & ORDER. She also appears in Fox Searchlight's film Notorious, a biopic about the late rapper Biggie Smalls.
