Y&R Where Are They Now?

David "Shark" Fralick
— Aaron Montgomery/JPI

David "Shark" Fralick (ex-Larry "The Wartman" Warton, Y&R, 1995-96; 1999-2003; 2004; 2005)

— By Naomi Rabinowitz

Soap Opera Digest: Hello, David ... or should I call you "Shark"?
David "Shark" Fralick: David's fine [laughs].

Digest: Technically, are you still recurring on Y&R?
Fralick: Technically. My character last appeared on the show over the summer [June 2005] after Cassie's death. I'd love to come back. Jill can use some romance. Jess [Walton, Jill] and I had an amazing chemistry on camera, and I think a lot of people enjoyed seeing that; seeing the upper echelon of society hang out with the bad boy. I have thousands of fans who write in to [my official Web site] www.larrywarton.com. A lot of them have proposed stuff, like maybe he could run a garage in Genoa City or help Katherine out. Jeanne Cooper [Katherine] is one of my best friends from the show. She's hilarious. I love her.

Digest: I also think he'd get along with Gloria.
Fralick: Definitely! It would be fun, too, to do some kind of story where [he] worked with Victor Newman, maybe took care of some of his dirty work. I was just at the 33rd anniversary party and it was good to see people. There isn't a place I can go where I'm not recognized. Italy is four years behind, so they go crazy over there. In Canada, it's popular, too. People say they can really relate to my character — the guy who came from nothing, who had a hard time, but bounced back and redeemed himself. I wouldn't mind if I went back as his evil twin, if I did something to shock everyone. But I've been busy, which is a good thing.

Digest: Let's talk about some of your other projects. You did a movie.
Fralick: Yes, it's called When I Find The Ocean. It takes place in the '60s and was shot in Alabama. It has some pretty good names attached: Lee Majors, Diane Ladd, Bernie Casey and my old roommate from college, Richard Tyson.

Digest: Had you and Richard kept in touch?
Fralick: Yes, we had. We didn't plan on being in the movie together. It just worked out that way. The writer, Tonya S. Holly, knew me from YOUNG AND RESTLESS and knew I could handle it, and decided she wanted me.

Digest: How was filming in Alabama?
Fralick: It was very cool. That state has so much to offer. I'm from Florida and I went to the University Of Alabama, so it was nice going back to the South. I went down to visit my mother, who lives nearby on the Gulf Coast.

Digest: How is she doing post-Hurricane Katrina?
Fralick: She's doing great because she was on higher ground, but a lot of people's [homes] got wiped out.

Digest: What are some other projects you're working on?
Fralick: I've got a commercial coming out for Dairy Queen. I'm doing NUMB3RS, and I have another film coming up called Skid Marks. I'm producing films and I've been working on my own screen plays. I'm teaching acting workshops and just did a fund-raiser for Last Chance for Animals. I actually adopted a Katrina rescue dog, who I named Viper.

Digest: That's a great name.
Fralick: I also have one called Nitrous, and the third is Chevy. They're great. I don't know what I'd do without them. It's been statistically proven that people live longer, healthier lives if they have animals.

Digest: Getting back to acting, would you want to do another soap?
Fralick: I'm pretty attached to Y&R. I'm loyal to it. I'm comfortable and familiar with it, unless another show offered me some great role. But I'm known as Larry Warton.
