YOUNG AND RESTLESS Features
Y&R: Who Said That?— By Deanna Barnert We've scrounged up some of the random quotes we've heard at THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS set over the last few years. Your job is to guess which cast member said it. Prepare to be surprised!
1. "I've always wanted to go skydiving and hang gliding, but I already went bungee jumping in Tahoe. Before I jumped, they said, 'Do you want to go backward or forward?' I said, 'I'm doing this once in my life, I'm going to do a swan dive.' I went out like that. I was gung-ho. The moment I let go, I thought, 'What did I do?!' But there was nothing to be done about it." (2007)
2. "All the Baldwin-Fishers own a Prius [hybrid cars, offscreen]. We have a black one, a steel one and a pearl one. They're everywhere now, but we've had them from early. It's great. I can't tell you the last time I filled up my tank. It just goes and goes. I still have the Lexus in the garage, but I barely drive it now. It's small and gets great mileage, but it's $45 just to fill it up!" (2007)
3. "Every seven years, I get clumsy. Any other injury I've had was
because I was a big daredevil when I was younger. I was intrigued and stupid. I did things like go on a skateboard for the first time down a steep hill that turned, while wearing my favorite pair of jeans and sunglasses but no shoes...when a car was coming. I thought it would be fun." (2006)
4. "My major was drama and political science. I secretly have Anderson Cooper envy. I want to be jetting around the world to all the hot spots. I have a jones for current affairs. Growing up, I was exposed to three very different parts of the world. It's given a perspective and curiosity that is, dare I say, insatiable." (2006)
5. "I thought burying myself in daytime was a big mistake, but it turned out to be the grandest decision of my life. I wasn't going to stay more than three years. I thought I was giving up availability for films, stage and prime time, but I've done a lot since I've been here. It's the best decision, because it afforded me a lifestyle to bring my children up. I was a single parent, though it took me a while to get the divorce and claim the title!" (2006)
6. "I sure don't miss the stage when I was going out to the bars every night. I had more fun that you're supposed to have, but I am well beyond that. My buddies now who are single come in and tell their stories. They're young and unattached. They don't have any obligations. I'm done with that. My responsibility is to my children and my wife." (2006)
7. "It's nice when your car is stolen to be able to say, 'I can afford to make a payment on a new car.' But I'm not out there buying a BMW or Mercedes. A jeep is affordable and it's my kind of car. I like being up above and being able to see all the traffic, especially out here [in Los Angeles]. Jeeps are built like tanks." (2005)
8. "We create our future, but sometimes we get slings and arrows thrown at us." (2005)
9. "I found the script from my first day, and my character's a completely different person. She was just this jerky, wrong-side-of-the-tracks, obnoxious, mouthy kid. It's interesting. One year, Bill Bell gave me the videotape of that episode. I looked at it and I was horrified. I tucked it away in a cupboard in my house. I don't want to see it again. I was so terrible!" (2005)
10. "[Doing steamy love scenes] is great, because it's an innocent something I have to do for work. I'm happily married for 24 years, but I still know what it's like to hug and kiss another man. Even though that's as far as it goes and none of them can hold a candle to my real husband, it's nice." (2004)
11. "We live in a coastal community, so this summer, we took family walks on the beach in the evening. We pretend we're in Hawaii on vacation. We call it Fake Hawaii. For that to work, though, you have to
break the routine: You have to stop answering the phones, stop answering the doors and pretend you're unavailable. If you don't, it will deteriorate. One thing leads to another and you're right back in the grind." (2002)
12. "I will always be in support of Israel. That problem in the Middle East needs to be solved, and I don't think the way they're addressing it now is working." (2003)
13. "The shot called for us to be romantically challenged on the kitchen table. I had my bathrobe on for about half an hour before we shot and when they called action, I took it off: Underneath I had a pair of thong underwear that's a bull with horns, a big nose ring and a tongue that you put your 'stuff' into. It covers the package. I kept it on for a few minutes, while the crew and cast laughed hysterically. It was just to break the ice. When the laughter died down, we continued the scene." (2002)
14. "Two times in my life, I decided to buy a thong bikini because they were [in style] when I went on vacation: I never left the room in either of them. The first one was never worn, so finally I just threw it away. Years went by and I did it again. I wish I could bring myself to wear it. You think you're going to be brave enough. Other people are wearing it, so you can do it — but then, no! Couldn't do it. I don't want to be one the one's people point at." (2002)
Bonus Alumus quote: "I collect crosses. I have crosses everywhere: the house, jewelry, clothes, anywhere. My favorite one is the Celtic cross on my back." (2002)
