YOUNG AND RESTLES Timeline

Welcome Mat
A Look Back At YOUNG AND RESTLESS's Memorable Guest Stars

— By Naomi Rabinowitz

Recently prime-time stars David Leisure (EMPTY NEST) and Marcia Wallace (THE BOB NEWHART SHOW) played Kay's bumbling kidnappers, Roger and Annie Wilkes. However, they're hardly the first famous faces to shake up Genoa City.

Rich Little, 1988

Brad certainly didn't know what hit him when his psychotic ex, Lisa, kidnapped him to a remote lodge and held him prisoner in a cage. That's not all she did, though; in order to make sure that Brad wasn't found, she hired famed impressionist Rich Little to imitate Brad's voice and had "Brad" explain why he'd left town, saying that he wanted to be with his "true love" Lisa. Talk about covering all the bases! Thankfully for Brad, Lauren and Jack discovered him while they were on a ski trip together and brought him home in one piece.

Morey Amsterdam (ex-Morey, 1989-90)

During Clint's first go-round at kidnapping Katherine, his accomplices were Lil and Morey, played by comedian Morey Amsterdam (THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW). Praises Jeanne Cooper (Kay), "He was so wonderful and really helped make that storyline a classic. That's why I liked having David and Marcia for the updated version of it. I felt like they brought that same feel to the storyline: they were funny and bumbling, but you still feared them. I missed Morey, but they certainly made his spirit felt."

Tara Lipinski (ex-Marnie, 1999)

Y&R brought on the plucky Olympic gold medalist to play Megan's (Ashley Jones) pal. When Megan was on the outs with Tony, Marnie stood by her friend and had confidence that they'd resolve things (and was right). Later that year, Marnie was startled when Tony noted her resemblance to ice skater Tara Lipinski! Marnie confided to Megan that she's always dreamed of being a skater ... and then had a fantasy about it. It was a clever way for Y&R to let Lipiniski try her hand at acting, but also gave her a chance to show off her skating skills.

Jesse Ventura, June 14, 2000

Eric Braeden Jesse Ventura

The former wrestler and then-MO Governor played himself when he stopped by G.C. Appropriately, the longtime Y&R fan shared scenes with Eric Braeden's Victor, where Ventura presented Newman with this tantalizing offer: "Why don't you run with me? We'd be the dream ticket?" Though they never did team up, no doubt they would've been an intimidating pair.

Leslie Moonves, January 25, 2001

The CBS President played himself in this episode during which his appearance caused conflict for Nina and Tomas. Nina was angry with Tomas for sending his writing ideas to his agent behind Nina's back. He then got a call from Moonves, who invited him to come to Los Angeles. Nina and Tomas ended up arguing over this, as well. They soon broke up and Nina left town.

George Takei, December 22, 2003

Takei, best known for playing STAR TREK's Hikaru Sulu, tried his hand at daytime in 2003 when he played Reverend Daniel Tanaka, the clergyman who officiated Drucilla and Neil's nuptials, which took place on the Ryukyu Islands in Japan. For the ceremony, Dru donned a kimono-inspired gown and the reception was held in a tea garden.

Smokey Robinson, March 9, 2004

JPI

In 2004, J.T. briefly entertained (no pun intended) the idea of becoming a rock star, but was hesitant about pursuing music as a career. In an effort to help him out, his then-girlfriend, Colleen, arranged for him to have a meeting with singing legend Smokey Robinson. Robinson encouraged J.T. to go after his dreams, and he did — until J.T. decided to become a private investigator the next year.

Luke Walton, August 30, 2006

Dru was jealous over Neil's budding "friendship" with PR exec Carmen, and when he didn't come home, concluded that he was with the other woman. But he wasn't — he was busy playing basketball on the GCAC roof with L.A. Laker Luke Walton! Later, after Luke left, Carmen found Neil on the roof and handed him his cell phone, which he'd left behind in the Newman offices. Dru, who was spying on them, mistook this to mean that they were on a date.

Katy Perry, June 12, 2008

Adrienne Frantz Katy Perry

JPI

Phyllis was ecstatic when the popular "I Kissed A Girl" singer agreed to pose as the cover model for Restless Style, the start-up publication that she working on with Nick, Jack and Sharon. Secretary Amber was also happy to make friends with the singer. However, Jack was less than thrilled with the cover model choice, fearing that Perry was too youthful and didn't appeal to their demographic. The argument over the singer's cover was the beginning of the end for the foursome's venture; after much infighting. Nick bought out the publication from Jack (thanks to financial help from Victor) and ended up running the magazine with Phyllis and Nikki.
