Woodland Brings Up Bab(ies)

— By Deanna Barnert, Stacy China

Take a young, single woman and place her in the company of tiny triplets and things are bound to get frantic — for the kids. Unless the woman is THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS' Lauren Woodland (Brittany), who is adjusting quite well to her new role as an on-screen mom.

Woodland was assigned triplets — Alyssa, Jaden and Brandon Morgan, born July 4 — to play Brittany and Bobby's newborn son, Joshua. Although she's not a mother (yet), Woodland was quick to understand the fundamental differences between the three tots. "It's two boys and a girl," Woodland explains. "It's funny. They put one of the babies in my arms and said it was Brandon. I looked at this baby and said, 'This is a girl! I know it.' She had a whole different energy about her. Then the nurse came back and said I was right. It was amazing. You could just tell."

Woodland is now enjoying watching the babies grow on a daily basis. "I've gotten to know these triplets pretty well now. Only a week went by and they put one of the babies, Brandon, in my arms and he had grown. His facial features were bigger, he weighed more," Woodland notes.

Does all of that time spent with babies have her thinking about having her own kids? "What's ironic is I'll probably turn out to be the ultimate mom! (laughs) It's so funny, because when I was growing up and in my very early 20s, I felt like I didn't need to have children. Really, that only was because I didn't know what it was. It was unfamiliar and scary, because that wasn't part of my life up to that point."

Woodland points out that she grew up with a single mom, so she has a keen understanding of how much responsibility parenthood requires. "I have such respect for single parents. It must be so difficult to do it on your own. What my mother did for me was amazing. I know I would do what I had to do, but I can't imagine. It's very difficult."

"At some point, I want to have a family," Woodland admits. "Not tomorrow. I'm single. I'm available."
