PASSIONS Feature

Behind the Scenes at PASSIONS Fan Event 2003

— By Deanna Barnert, Lori Latusek

More than 400 PASSIONS viewers streamed in from across the country to Universal Studios Hollywood for the Fourth Annual Fan Event held on Oct. 18.

8:00 a.m. ARRIVALS
While strolling into the Globe Theater on a red carpet, fans were handed a PASSIONS gift bag filled with a beach towel, 8x10s of the cast members, a Tabby and Timmy key chain made by Josh Ryan Evans's (ex-Timmy) mother, Cheryl, a CD with McKenzie Westmore (Sheridan) singing Out of the Blue, the men of PASSIONS trading cards, a City of Hope pin (courtesy of Andrea Evans, Rebecca), Soap Opera Weekly, perfume and coupons.

Then, they bought charity raffle tickets for a chance to lunch with cast members at the studio commissary and perused the silent auction items — Sheridan's and Beth's wedding dresses caused quite a stir — but they couldn't compare to a chance to win a walk-on role. Representatives from Avon's Mark cosmetics were also on hand, giving out samples.

The lobby of the theater displayed items for the silent auction, benefiting St. Margaret Mary School in Bronx, NY. Wardrobe outfits up for bid included the red velvet Austin Powers suit worn by Ben Masters (Julian) during the Julian/Tabitha sexcapade, wedding gowns worn by McKenzie Westmore and Kelli McCarty and a cassette of Eve Russell singing (autographed by her portrayer, Tracey Ross). PASSIONS merchandise was also for sale.

8:50 ROLL CALL
Cast members strolled into Universal Studios and around to the back entrance, while fans took their seats at assigned tables. Out of the mix for the day was Andrea Evans, who had a previous engagement with the City of Hope breast cancer walk in Chicago, and Liza Huber (Gwen), who had her own "engagement" to attend to (she was in pre-cana counseling with the Catholic Church for her upcoming wedding). James Hyde, Justin Carroll and BamBam (Sam, David and Precious) were also unable to attend.

9:00 INTRODUCTIONS
The Passions cast took their seats onstage and introduced themselves. Ben Masters (Julian) earned the most raucous welcome and, as always, before fans could stop screaming, he had them laughing. "First of all, I'd like to say I'm sorry," he drawled. "I play Julian Crane, your only friend."

It's no surprise that Galen Gering, Jesse Metcalfe, Lindsay Korman and Justin Hartley (Luis, Miguel, Theresa and Fox) earned their own screams, but Westmore came in second on the scream-o-meter. Chrystee Pharris (Simone) earned special applause when she introduced herself as Chrystee Pharris-Larkins (having added her new hubby's last name) and hot tamale Eva Tamargo Lemus (Pilar) stood out by introducing herself in Spanish.
