ONE LIFE TO LIVE Timeline

Trouble on the Mountain

— By Lauren Flynn Kelly

From the underground city of Eterna to Brody's post-traumatic meltdown, ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Llantano Mountain is often the site of major drama. Digest presents a timeline of trouble at the Llanview locale.

Eterna, 1989

Grande Plans: Viki (Erika Slezak, r.) faced off with captors Leo (Alan Scarfe) and Christine (Susan Floyd) in the elaborate underground city of Eterna. Also pictured: Tina (Andrea Evans) and Gabrielle (Fiona Hutchison).
— ABC

Entrepreneur Michael Grande began the search for the underground city of Eterna, which Victor Lord had supposedly built beneath Llantano Mountain and destroyed years earlier. While on a quest for the city's hidden gold, Grande and his goons trapped Viki and several others in Eterna. It was there that Viki discovered her repressed past with former Eterna resident Roger Gordon. As it turned out, a teenaged Viki had a romance with Roger and even gave birth to his daughter, Megan, but Victor had his daughter hypnotized to forget the whole thing and paid Roger to take the baby out of town. While trapped in Eterna, Roger and Viki began to rediscover their old feelings for one another, just before Viki's husband Clint arrived with a rescue team and the city collapsed.

Patrick's "Fatal" Shooting, 1997

Moment In Time: Marty (Susan Haskell) and Patrick (Thorsten Kaye) got the woodland wedding they wanted ... before tragedy struck. Also pictured: Hillary B. Smith (Nora) and Robert S. Woods (Bo).
— ABC

The tranquil mountain setting was perfect for Marty and Patrick's outdoor wedding, but Todd just had to go and ruin it. Still holding a grudge against Patrick for sleeping with Blair and causing the crash that nearly killed her (and took the life of her and Patrick's unborn child), Todd arranged for two of the Irish terrorists that were after Patrick to crash the wedding. Patrick was shot, and even though it appeared to wedding guests that he was on his deathbed, Marty and her husband fled town for the sake of their own unborn child, Cole, who would later return to Llanview with Marty after the Men of 21 finally caught up with Patrick in Ireland.

Ben's Shooting, 2002

Cabin Fever: Ben (Mark Derwin) was shot during his, Antonio (Kamar de los Reyes, l.) and Bo's (Robert S. Woods) attempt to rescue Lindsay (Catherine Hickland, far l.) and Viki (Erika Slezak, c.) from crazy Allison (Barbara Garrick).
— ABC

Mental patient/escaped convict Allison Perkins kidnapped Viki, who had slipped into her alternate personality Niki, and held her and fellow escapee Lindsay hostage at Viki's mountain cabin. Bo, Ben and Antonio tracked down the fugitives to the cabin, where Ben got shot trying to save his wife. The horror caused Viki to reemerge, but Ben fell into an irreversible coma and an ailing Viki eventually received his heart via transplant.

Natalie's Prison Pit, 2005

Pit Stop: Natalie (Melissa Archer) fought for her life while stashed in a pit on the mountain.
— ABC

Poor Natalie was abducted by psycho killer Hayes Barber, a.k.a. The Killing Club Killer, and tossed in a pit near the "red rocks" on Llantano Mountain. Natalie was in the pit for weeks and nearly starved to death, but John figured out that Hayes had stashed her away on the mountain to make her suffer like he did when he was locked in the basement as a child. While in captivity, Natalie fantasized about John and scratched a love note for him in case of her death. Thanks to a clue from Rex, however, John located the pit and risked his life to pull Nat to safety.

Brody Kidnaps Shane, 2008

Mountain Men: Brody (Mark Lawson, l.) lost it when he took Shane (Austin Williams) on a rugged camping trip.
— ABC

When Brody, a former Navy SEAL, learned that Gigi no longer wanted him to pose as Shane's father and wanted Shane to know his real dad, Rex, Brody picked up Shane from school to go on a little father/son camping trip. Brody, however, was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, and fled to Llantano Mountain with little more than a blanket and a gun, telling the boy they were on a survival mission. As he was teaching Shane how to fire the gun, Brody began to have flashbacks of a boy he killed in Iraq. Before he could bring any danger to Shane, Rex and the cops showed up and rescued the boy. Rex was shot in the struggle for the gun and ended up in a lengthy coma.
