GUIDING LIGHT Timeline

Alan Spaulding (Ron Raines)
— PGP

Master Of The Boardroom

Springfield's dastardly CEO, Alan, has been controlling and manipulative ever since he arrived on the scene in 1977. Take a trip back down memory lane with our Alan timeline and see what he's been up to.

1977: Lawyer Mike Bauer's newest client was Spaulding Enterprises. The company's CEO was young millionaire Alan Spaulding. Alan ruled all aspects of his life, both personal and business. His wife, Elizabeth, feared his power. Nearly 10 years before, when Elizabeth delivered a stillborn baby boy, Alan paid a doctor for one of his patient's children and passed off Phillip as his own child. In 1977, the birth mother, Jackie, came to town to learn about her baby.

Elizabeth (Lezlie Dalton) and Phillip (Jarrod Ross)
— CBS

1978: Alan and Elizabeth (Lezlie Dalton) broke up. Alan resorted to bribery to win custody of Phillip (Jarrod Ross), while Jackie was so determined to be in her son's life that she got Alan to propose to her.

Alan (Christopher Bernau) and Hope (Elvera Roussel)
— CBS

1979: Alan (Christopher Bernau) was furious to learn that Hope Bauer (Elvera Roussel) was designing a villa in St. Lucia that he had bought for Jackie. On the way home from the island, their plane crashed and they were presumed dead. Later that year, they were found, but not before they had developed feelings for each other.

Alan and Hope are married
— CBS

1980: Alan and Hope were married, but several secrets started to unravel. Paul LaCrosse, the doctor who had sold Alan his son, admitted to Elizabeth that Phillip was adopted and that his biological parents were Justin and Jackie.

1981: Alan learned that Amanda was his daughter, born of a teenage affair. (He would eventually discover that they were actually half siblings.) He was incensed when he found out that Elizabeth wanted to fight for Phillip. Hope, meanwhile, gave birth to Alan-Michael.

1982: Alan spent time in jail for working with Roger Thorpe.

1983: To destroy Ross's political ambition, Alan had cocaine planted in his car and set him up with a hooker. Hope began drinking, but got help, then divorced Alan and moved to New York with their son, Alan-Michael.

1984: Alexandra came to town determined to bring down Alan. He paid Reva to come to Springfield to break up Billy and Vanessa. After being arrested for another scheme, Alan disappeared and faked his death for the next two years.
