GUIDING LIGHT Interviews

Marcy Rylan (Lizzie)
— PGP

Marcy, Marcy, Marcy

— By Heather Filemyr

Spend five minutes with Marcy Rylan, the spitfire behind GUIDING LIGHT's resident troublemaker, Lizzie Spaulding.

Soap Opera Weekly: Lizzie is lucky that Coop didn't turn out to be the father of her baby. He was off kissing Ava right before they were going to get married!
Marcy Rylan: Thank you! What if he was the dad and he was making out with Ava, like, "I'm getting married tomorrow"? Thanks for making that commitment!

Weekly: His family acted as though Coop was making a sacrifice by giving up Oxford to be a father to "his" child.
Rylan: If he really was the baby's father that's not a sacrifice, that's your job! There were so many times I wanted [Lizzie] to dump Coop. [Like] when she would lie to him and he'd believe her. I [thought], "How could you believe it? She was clearly lying to you. She is dumping you!" And then, of course, my next line would be, "I love you so much."

Weekly: Is she still planning to name the baby Jenna, after Coop's mom?
Rylan: I haven't said that in a while and God, I hope not. I think Lizzie's over that. One of my personal favorite names is Ava. Lizzie won't be using that one....

Weekly: Lizzie learned she was pregnant in the typical soap way: She started passing out and having morning sickness.
Rylan: Right. Pregnant women across the world are fainting randomly (laughs).

Weekly: They don't miss their periods.
Rylan: You just pass out. That's how people know. I love getting to play pregnant, [but] I'm really nervous way, way, way in advance of the birth — like, six months in advance.

Weekly: How concerned should Lizzie be about Alan's machinations?
Rylan: Alan's going to be a big problem. He's getting really psycho, like, "I just want the baby," and any Spaulding going crazy is fantastic. He could take the baby, kidnap the baby, kill the baby, switch the baby at birth — all the soap things. I don't think Lizzie realizes how much of a problem he can be, because she thinks she can do anything. She's just a young Spaulding, and he's an old, crazy Spaulding. He's very dangerous.

Weekly: What's going to become of Lizzie?
Rylan: My fantasy thing is that Lizzie and Jonathan would fall madly in love. I haven't decided what will happen to Tammy, but it's my fantasy (laughs). Jonathan and Lizzie fall madly in love and have the baby, and he's really into the baby and excited. Then something medical happens, and we find out the baby is Coop's. Coop will be single and he'll want Lizzie in his life, but she'll be in love with another man. Then Jonathan will kidnap the baby and run away. And then, three years from now, the baby will come back and my daughter will be older than me. It could happen!
