GL Cast To Fans: We Love You, Too!— By Meridith M. Miller The cast of GUIDING LIGHT celebrated their 70th anniversary over Columbus Day weekend with three days of activities for fans from all over the country. The highlight of the weekend was the Fan Club Luncheon at the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan, where visitors got to meet their favorite characters, and the stars were reminded how instrumental their fans are in making the show a success. "The fans show such an appreciation of what we do every single day," explains Frank Dicopoulos (Frank). "It's nice to get their immediate feedback. Without them, we're not here. We need them big time." Dicopoulos recently celebrated 20 years with GL, and other cast members who have been around for a number of years boasted about the loyalty of GL's fans.
"I've been here since 1983," explains Kim Zimmer (Reva). "What amazes me is that the same people stand in your line to get your autograph every year! Most of [my] fans have been here with me since 1983, so I have gotten to know faces." The veterans aren't the only cast members with loads of fan support. Newcomers like Caitlin Van Zandt (Ashlee) and Murray Bartlett (Cyrus) got lots of encouragement from the cheering crowd, and were happy to take their time meeting fans. "I like to hear about their lives, too," chuckled Van Zandt. "It's fun meeting with all the moms and hearing about grandchildren. It's good to hear everyone's personal story." So, after 70 years, what new stories can GL fans look forward to? "I think [GL] will bring all kinds of family members back," predicts Marj Dusay (Alexandra). "They're going back into some history. The fans want that, and it's fun for all of us."
