GUIDING LIGHT Interview
GL Zimmer's Son on Law & Order"I was on the set with him," relates his proud mom. "He plays a victim of rape. He's supposed to be 12. He's supposed to be in the sixth grade. It's not a huge part, but he's a principal performer and he has a juicy little part."
So, is Zimmer a stage mom? "No!" she insists. "When I was at the set, I was pretty good. I did go and introduce myself to the director, Juan Campanella, because Jake had mentioned how wonderful he was on the day that he did the rape scene. Juan cracked a lot of jokes and kept it very light and fun."
Of course, Jake has had his share of rejection so far in the acting biz. "He's had, like, nine auditions and had callbacks from four of the jobs," notes Zimmer. "He lost one because he's too tall, and he was all ticked off. I said, ‘Honey, you're going to lose jobs because your eyes are blue and they want you to have green eyes. You're going lose them because you have blonde hair and they want someone with dark hair. They have no imagination. Believe me! I know that's hard to hear right now. You have to walk in that room and look exactly like what they written.'"
Jake has an agent — unlike his mother. "I'm so over paying an agent, 10 percent of...what? Something they have nothing to do with?" shrugs the vet. "I do have to break down and get an agent, though. Now that I have more time on my hands (with her storyline being slow on GL), I'd like to start doing other roles. I mean, I could have played Jake's mom in this episode. The woman that's playing her is Diana Scarwid."
LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT airs at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
