Five Minutes With Finola Hughes
— By Tom Stacy
Soap Opera Digest: So, how does it feel to be a style guru?
Finola Hughes: I just started a fashion blog [on her official Web site, www.finolahughes.com] where I can talk about nonsense to do with fashion. It's good fun. I enjoy it.
Digest: And you're in your sixth season for the Style Network's HOW DO I LOOK?
Hughes: That's something I really wanted. I was talking to Catherine Hickland [Lindsay, OLTL ] the other day and she said, "Do you remember when we went out to dinner the very first day that you got into New York?" Apparently, she'd asked me what I wanted to do and I had said I would love to have a fashion show. And I said, "No! I completely do not remember saying that." But she said yes. I was talking about it even then. It was something I pursued and basically beat down the Style Network until they gave me a job [laughs]. Then we were off and running. We started off so small. I was changing in my car, for God's sake. Now we have our own little house where we shoot.
Digest: With the publication of Soapsuds: A Novel, you're an accomplished author.
Hughes: I don't know if you should use the word "accomplished" [laughs].

Finola on the Red carpet.

Digest: How did that project come about?
Hughes: It was a laugh. I'd always had this imaginary world that I wrote things in, things that would happen on the set. I would exaggerate and turn it into these crazy scenes, just taking my own imagination and turning the notes into crazy little vignettes. Then I put them together, somebody bound them and we took them out there. It was basically as simple as that.
Digest: Will you write another?
Hughes: Maybe. I don't think it will be the same subject, but yeah.
Digest: On fashion, perhaps?
Hughes: No. I'm happy just blogging my way through it all, but there may be another book in a few years. It takes time and it is an arduous process. I take my hat off to you guys who put things together, and so quickly. I read the newspaper every day and I'm like, "How do they put all these words together overnight and make it interesting?" I think it's an incredible gift, what you guys do.
Digest: Tell us about your jewelry line.
Hughes: That's something I started a couple years ago. The way things happen is: You meet somebody. Your personalities gel. The things that you like gel. You just start working together and that's what happened. We took it to QVC and they went for it. The line is very different from the things that they normally do. They took a chance with us and I'm very grateful to that they did. We've tried to put together things that I like and that I think people might enjoy that lean toward fashion, but are also real jewelry, so you can find things that you can keep that aren't just going to go in and out of style.
Digest: And finally, how are your greatest accomplishments?
Hughes: My boys are great. They're fantastic. Dylan is 5 and a quarter, he always adds that — and Cash is nearly 22 months.
Digest: You are aware, aren't you, that the young actor who plays Michael on GH is actually named Dylan Cash.
Hughes: Yes, I know that. Kimberly [McCullough, Robin] told me. That's so crazy.
Digest: So, speaking of GH, any chance we'll see Anna's twin, Alexandra, hit Port Charles this summer, as well?
Hughes: God, I hope not [laughs]. That [playing twins] was so hard. I don't know how people do it. I was like, "Somebody shoot her [laughs]!" Alex and Dimitri are very happy in Budapest.
