M'fundo Morrison
— Jill Johnson/JPI

From The Mouth Of M'fundo

— By Tom Stacy

Soap Opera Digest: You had a huge turnout at your first-ever fan event.
M'fundo Morrison: It was so touching.

Digest: Feeling the love?
Morrison: Of course. That's one of the many blessings I've encountered because of this job. Mo [Maurice Benard, Sonny] was here earlier. He dropped by, so that was great.

Digest: How is it that the guy we named sexiest man from GH [in the 4/11 issue] is gone two months later?
Morrison: [laughs]: I know. It's ironic, isn't it?

Digest: We were really taken by surprise.
Morrison: I think we were all taken a little by surprise. But my attitude about it has been, it's just part of what we do as actors. You have a choice to go out sour and bitter or take the high road, take it on the chin, look at it as another experience and just roll with the punches. It happens to everybody. I'm not the first. I certainly won't be the last. I loved working there. I made a lot of great friends who are really real friends, so why make it a sour experience? It's not anybody's fault. They're just doing what they think is best for the show. You've just got to roll with it, man. Like Steve [Burton, Jason] and Mo have always said, you look at it as a graduation. It was only going to be a temporary place for me anyway. It was a stepping stone, and it has been just that. A lot of doors have opened up because of what has happened on GH.

Digest: Did GH live up to your expectations?
Morrison: For me, what I expected from GH was a place to act every day, a chance to be in front of the camera. I saw the speed at which they work as an asset to better my craft, hit my marks and that type of thing. That's the way I looked at it. Anything else that was going to come out of that was going to be a bonus, and there were a million bonuses to come out of it.

Digest: What will you miss most?
Morrison: Honestly, the camaraderie at GH. There's a real sense of family. I'm going to miss all the guys, going to lunch with the boys, joking around, clowning around, traveling together, whether it's with Greg Vaughan [Lucky] or Rick [Hearst, Ric]. We're just like brothers. We fought like brothers and made up like brothers. That's what I'll miss — the people.

Justus and Lainey (Kent King)
— ABC

Digest: And there was no love scene between you and Kent King (Lainey).
Morrison: I've got to tell you, I was looking forward to that [laughs]. I was looking forward to it more than the fans! Maybe we'll get [another shot] on another show or a movie or something.

Digest: You've got a really good attitude.
Morrison: Am I feeling cheated? No. If Justus has to take a hit for the team, then you've got to take the hit for the team. If that's better for the show in the long run, so be it. This is not a sad thing. It's not a good-bye. It's a celebration. It's a graduation, and that's the way we're going to treat it.

Digest: Would you ever consider doing another soap?
Morrison: I've been asked this a lot and I'm open. If the role is right and it's the right show and I'm going to be an integral part of it, we can talk. But if it's something where they want me to come in and float, then definitely not. I've done that already.

Digest: So, what's next?
Morrison: We're trying to break into the movies, so we've got a couple things going on there. I'm superstitious, so I don't like to talk about things till they're solid.... But that's really where I want to be. That's the goal, to be a full-time film actor.

Digest: So, in a few years, you won't take our calls....
(Morrison: laughs.)

Digest: ....You'll forget you even knew us.
Morrison: (laughs): You're so sweet. That will never happen! Not with me, baby!
