GH Tackles Teen Dating Abuse
— By Tom Stacy
It was the slap heard 'round Port Charles, when Kristina's new boyfriend, Kiefer, lost his temper and lashed out in violence by striking her. The situation echoes the real-life, headline-grabbing incident involving singers Rhianna and Chris Brown — and that is intentional. Here, the actors weigh in on the topical tale:

Troubled Teen: Kristina's (Lexi Ainsworth) world changed forever when the boy that she likes got physically abusive.
— ABC

Lexi Ainsworth (Kristina):
"I was very excited when I heard about this story for a lot of reasons. Nothing like that has ever happened to me personally, so not only was it was a great challenge to play something like that, but I'm really glad I could do the PSA [Public Service Announcement] to inform people and let people know that this does happen, every day. That's an important message to people my age. Hopefully this will let girls in trouble know that they have friends and family who can support them and help them through it and let them know that any relationship like that is not a healthy relationship and they need to get out."
Christian Alexander (Kiefer):
"I found out the day I was shooting that scene that the storyline was going to be centered around domestic violence and abuse. I'm thrilled that we're doing something in the teen storyline that can help people be more aware of it. I spoke with the writers, who mentioned that the Chris Brown/Rihanna situation brought this to light, got people talking about it and there was an opportunity here to shine some light on the issue."
Drew Garrett (Michael):
"That first moment was a shocker. I watched it on TV and it was believable. It was horrible. It made you sit up and go, 'Whoa!' If it gets you worked up and makes you think, 'This should not happen and this does not have to happen,' then it's powerful. This is the kind of story that makes you want to help somebody. Maybe someone might see it themselves or know someone who's in a similar situation. It's definitely a positive thing."

I am really delighted GH is taking on this storyline, its an important one to do my only disapointment is they didnt start it at the start of the summer because all the kids are going back to school, but i will be tivoing GH for my daughter i want her to watch this storyline its important to make people aware that this does happen and that it can happen to anyone- like Drew said when i first saw the slap i was stunned it angered me and i thought oh lord this kid is hitting Sonny's daughter thats not a row you want to hoe buddy, but i hope that they make it into the good story it can be, to bring awareness to the ladies watching and it doesnt turn into a Mob centered storyline because in reality not everyone has a Dad like Sonny or an uncle like Jason that can take care of this, i think the worst thing they could do with this story is turn it into a revenge storyline with Sonny retaltiating against this boy because violence doesnt solve anything.
I agree with Kyla this should have been started earlier but since it wasn't we can go forward. I am hoping this will be well written. I have seen plenty of movies on LMN & Lifetime chanels which were great. They need to show the reason Kristina is still with this boy. All we have seen was a day at the pool and a few other scenes. There was no dating getting involved. Just boom he was slapping her. We ened to see Kristina love /like/ friendship for this boy that makes her stay with him and take the abuse. or are the reasons because of her family life, mom always busy, carreer driven, dad is the mob.
While I agree the Kristina & Kiefer storyline is powerful, I disagree when the writers had Kristina accuse the wrong person of beating her. It will be interesting to see the writers resolve this situation.
I agree that it is a good storyline, very upsetting I feel the same way about the wrong person being accused. The wrong person being accused takes away from it because now you feel bad about that and the fact the she was beaten.
I like the storyline about the abuse--but what the hell are they trying to accomplish by the lying portion of it? That more teenagers with attitudes can do any amount of damage they want with little or no consequence. This was a terrible move on an important topic--I don't see how they can resolve this and be realistic at the same time!
