Murder They Wrote

Answers

9-11: Paging Agatha Christie. You are truly a super-sleuth.
6-8: Good job. You may be able to assist Spinelli on his next case.
3-5: So-so. Hopefully you won't be investigating your own demise.
1-2: That's so bad that even the PCPD wouldn't hire you.

  1. Crashing Down: Luis Alcazar (Ted King) literally fell from grace after being pushed off a balcony at The Port Charles Hotel.
    — SCOTT GARFIELD/ABC
Dr. John Prentice, 1967: In GH's first murder mystery since its 1964 debut, the second husband of nurse Jessie Brewer was killed. At first, everyone assumed John died due to his bad heart, but the autopsy revealed he'd been given a lethal combination of "Alkaloid X34." Jessie went to jail for the crime, but did she do it?
    1. Nope. It was John's vengeful daughter/Jessie's stepdaughter, Polly Prentice, who gave her father the deadly dose.
  2. Dr. Phil Brewer, 1974: Jessie was arrested again for the death of her ex-husband, Dr. Phil Brewer, who died after being hit with a geode. The suspects were numerous, including Diana Taylor, whom Phil had raped and impregnated and who eventually produced the murder weapon and confessed. Case closed?
    1. Diana was innocent. The killer was nurse Augusta McLeod, who silenced Phil for fear that he'd blab that she was actually pregnant by Dr. Peter Taylor, Diana's husband, and Diana confessed to protect her errant hubby.
  3. Susan Moore, 1983: Nearly everyone wanted Susan dead. She conceived Alan Quartermaine's illegitimate son, Jason, while Alan was married to Monica; her husband, Scotty Baldwin, and his lover, Heather Webber, were stealing from Jason's trust fund; she was blackmailing Lila and Edward Quartermaine. Who shot Susan dead?
    1. It was Crane Tolliver, Lila's first husband, who was partnered with Susan in blackmailing Edward and Lila with evidence that their marriage was not legal. When Tolliver found out Susan was going to cheat him, he killed her.
  4. Beatrice LeSeur, 1984: Jimmy Lee Holt's conniving mother made no friends in Port Charles, as she was blackmailing the entire Quartermaine family, along with socialites Amanda Barrington and Sylvia Whitby, who'd been seduced by sleazy masseur Leo Russell at the Avalon Spa. Even Holly Scorpio fell prey when her plan to catch Leo backfired. When Beatrice dropped dead, Edward confessed to protect Lila. Whodunit?
    1. The victim herself! Beatrice mistakenly drank Lila's heart medication, which killed her.
  5. D.L. Brock, 1985: Brock was physically abusing wife Bobbie, emotionally abusing his daughter, Terry, and blackmailing Ginny Blake with her criminal past. Did one of these ladies pull the trigger on this misogynist?
    1. Yep. Ginny initially gaslighted Bobbie into believing she'd committed the crime, but eventually came clean and claimed self defense. Ginny was eventually exonerated.
  6. Nancy Eckert, 1991: Witchy Nancy made a fatal mistake by moving to Port Charles to blackmail her newly wealthy husband, Bill, by threatening to sue for custody of their son, Sly. Nancy double-crossed Scotty and Lucy, seduced alcoholic AJ and interfered in the business dealings of Harlan and Julia Barrett, Leopold Taub and Cesar Faison. When Scorpio solved the case, he threw a murder party at the lighthouse with all the suspects to announce the killer's identity. (He even had it catered!) So, who shot Nancy, leaving her to fall down the lighthouse stairs and die?
    1. Though Nancy's murder wasn't premeditated, it was Bill's handyman, Finian O'Toole, who pulled the trigger and spared his employer from any more of wicked Nancy's wrath.
  7. Damian Smith, 1996: The son of mob boss Frank Smith, Luke and Laura were obvious suspects after Damian was bludgeoned with a baseball bat in the Bradley Ward house as he set fire to the structure. He'd also ruined Bobbie marriage to Tony, sent the mob after Lucy and muscled his way into ELQ. Laura was arrested and went to trial, but who was the real killer?
    1. Laura was exonerated, and though Damian's killer, Justus Quartermaine, confessed to the Spencers, he never faced legal action for dispatching the career criminal.
  8. Dr. Pierce Dorman, 1997: Studly Dr. Dorman had an affair with Monica, then successfully sued her for sexual harassment. He threatened to expose all the Q family secrets and got young Emily hooked on drugs. Due to his drug connections, it appeared that Sonny and Brenda could have been involved in this case as well, as they were framed for drug running through P.C. Who actually stabbed the dirty doc in the heart with a scalpel in the hospital morgue?
    1. The culprit was drug kingpin "The Tin Man," also known as Hernando Rivera, Sonny's former father-in-law, who still blamed lovers Sonny and Brenda for the death of his daughter, Sonny's first wife, Lily, in 1996.
  9. Luis Alcazar, 2002: What didn't this mobster do? He kept Brenda drugged and captive, convincing her she was dying. He blew up Sonny's warehouse, killing Alexis's sister, Kristina. He kidnapped Felicia and her girls. He blackmailed Roy to kill Sonny. He kidnapped Monica, shot Jax and loved and left alcoholic Skye. So, who pushed the cad off a balcony at The Port Charles Hotel?
    1. It was Alexis, who was suffering from a mental illness known as dissociative identity disorder, which prevented her from being sent to prison. Alexis was actually faking her mental illness, but she played the system to get away with murder. She rid the world of a killer, but lost custody of her daughter, Kristina, in the process.
  10. Detective Ross Duncan, 2004: Skye's drunken night with dirty cop Ross ended when she woke up the next day next to his dead body. He'd been stabbed in the back with an ice pick. Paramour Luke investigated as Skye went to trial and couldn't believe his eyes when it appeared that his catatonic ex-wife, Laura, might be the guilty party. Could she really have been faking her illness?
    1. Nope. Crazy is as crazy does, and it was actually psychotic Heather Webber who wanted Skye out of the way. She'd returned to town and was secretly obsessed with Luke. Heather was arrested and institutionalized.
  11. AJ Quartermaine, 2005: When AJ Quartermaine resurfaced from the dead in 2005, he was not long for this world. After breaking his back during a fight with Jason, AJ was smothered to death in his hospital bed at G.H. A slew of denizens wanted AJ dead, but the culprit appeared to be his biological son, 10-year-old Michael Corinthos. Could Michael have learned too much from his mobster adoptive dad, Sonny?
    1. Well, not yet, anyway. The real killer turned out to be Michael's seemingly kind shrink, Dr. Asher Thomas, who killed AJ to cover up his own involvement in a conspiracy to murder Jason after his fateful car accident back in 1996.
