As Doctor Daniel, DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Shawn Christian is in a major quandary: He's interested in a future with young Chelsea, while obviously having shared a mysterious past with her sexy grandmother, Kate. Christian finds himself at the heart of the controversial storyline and enjoying every minute of it.
Soap Opera Weekly: The show is being so mysterious about Daniel and Kate. What is going on between them?
Shawn Christian: There's definitely something bubbling beneath the surface.
Weekly: How long has this "bubbling" been going on?
Christian: That has yet to be determined. Lauren (Koslow, Kate) and I had scenes yesterday. We were trying to figure out how long, how many times, and when did this and that happen. I'm not sure if it's been clearly defined yet.
Weekly: What are your thoughts on the surprise storyline?
Christian: As an actor, you love the adventure. You want to figure out the unintended consequences of something like this happening. Daniel's felt for a while that Kate's been retreating from whatever experience they shared. She's completely closing herself off from him, probably as a means of protecting Chelsea. Daniel is perplexed, truly, and frustrated that Kate has been closing him out.
Weekly: As an actor, is it hard to justify playing someone who's had a past with one woman and then starts dating her granddaughter?
Christian: There's one thing Lauren and I have been trying to work on. This is not a conspiratorial, behind-Chelsea's-back scenario. It feels like whatever happened happened when Daniel completely let Chelsea go, when he was no longer her doctor and he was done with that whole chapter. We're going back to there, when Kate clearly knew Daniel had taken himself off Chelsea’s case. Up until that point, Daniel had denied any feelings for Chelsea, anyway.
Weekly: Under the circumstances, how would you assess Daniel?
Christian: He's a mess. (Laughs.) Actually, there is something exciting and flawed about Daniel. He has an insatiable appetite for living on the edge.
Weekly: Do you think this has the makings of an interesting triangle?
Christian: Yes. What do you do when you have an experience that was organic and beautiful, like Kate and Daniel did, and now you have these unintended consequences down the line? Now it's, "Oh, my God! I'm actually falling for your granddaughter." Daniel had no idea that could happen back then. Both he and Kate were free and single. They had no attachments. How duplicitous is that? That's what we need to explore as we go along. I really hope there's another interesting twist that makes the story different from two people cheating behind someone else's back.
Weekly: Meanwhile, you are working with two very different leading ladies. What has that been like?
Christian: They are both a lot of fun. Rachel [Melvin, Chelsea] likes to figure out these little puzzles. She likes to see how we can make this our own and create these experiences together. Lauren is great, too. We're trying to create something interesting, too, and she is very open to all sorts of ideas.
i know it is a soap opera but i think chelsea and daniel are a better match than kate and daniel, because we know the story before with billie and nick
Even though Daniel is considerably older than Chelsea they really do have a tender and sexy chemistry. I'd like for Kate to find love; it's been too long since she's had a serious relationship. But having the same man as her granddaughter comes across as wrong, especially since it's already been done with Chelsea and Billie both having slept with Nick. I feel that the writers don't really need to go there.
I am a major DANSEA fan and I love the chemistry between Chelsea and Daniel..they maybe the next super couple of the soaps industry..the next super couple of DOOL aside from Hope and BO...Forget Kate Roberts...Gross
Dansea all the way. They light up the screen. I hope they build a solid story for them. they are perfect and could really be the next young love to last years and years
i love shawn in any role (summerland,vegas,charmed,crossing jordon) he's just yummy,yummy,yummy! but come on, 2 link him w/kate thats just a joke. days is just bowing 2 peer pressure & finding him a "older" lady. take john & ava/their age difference doesn't bother any1. age doesn't have anything 2 do w/who u love. even in soap oprea land. days really needs 2 rethink this story line. 1) its been done already(i dont even have 2 mention w/who) 2) they need 2 let them actually finish a date & not jump 2 the next day. were is the passion in that? this is a soap oprea right? 3) come up w/a really great story line 4 them. they don't want 2 let shawn get away. if his movie rolls start coming in they might lose him. now that we cant have. here is how the story should go. have something bad happen were chelsea runs away 2 austrullia & daniel follows her & then as he catches up 2 her on the cliff they fall in2 a sunken cave & they only have each other & then.... i'm sure the wri

I love Daniel and Chelsea. I have loved them from the very beginning, i have wanted them together since they first met. I think they are amazing, they have great chemistry and they do really really really well with each other. I can't say enough positive things about them, i love them and can't wait each day to see them. -Audrey
I think Daniel and Chelsea are the next Bo and Hope. Shawn and Rachel light up the screen with their great chemistry and Daniel and Chelsea. The new writers at "Days" are not giving them a chance which is why they are making it where Chelsea isn't going to forgive Daniel for his affair with Kate. Um, hello, Chelsea and Daniel were not together at the time. He kept pushing her away because he didn't want to hurt her. I think Kate's illness will draw Chelsea and Daniel back together and closer than ever that no-one will break them up again, at least I hope so. DANSEA rules!
I agree with Cassie to have the writers to do a better about putting Chelsea and hottie sexy Dr Daniel together hopefully forever. You could never put anyone else in the locker room and have better lust like these two can do. Matter of fact I am jealous of Chelsea just touching him would make me tingle and melt and probably sweat all over me. When this man is on the soap or kissing Chelsea I try to imagine I'm in her shoes. I also agree with JoAnna with these two being the best couple even better than Bo and Hope now. I love romantic couples who can communicate cause it's what I have always wanted for my life and hope it stays with them. I love a relationship with love and faith and hope and also praise . Am I missing something? How out-of-date is this? Daniel has a hot storyline with Cloe' that's better than any other affair he's had. They have chemistry and are better paired age-wise. I hope Days stays with this couple for a while. Chelsea can move on with Max. Please keep Days in the forefront like they used to be. They are so underrated. I've watched the show since it was in black & white. Please keep it on the air!
Daniel is so yummy for sure! I feel him and Chloe need to stay together as well because I dont feel Chloe is good mother material for Lucas's kids. I would like to see Sami and Lucas get back together but we will wait and see what happens. And I like the fact they are putting Chelsea and Max back together,but read that Chelsea is leaving the show...I hate that! I love her character on Days!! La La La,,,such is soaps..lol

I know this is an old article and who knows if Shawn is going to stay around. I mean Rachel is already off the show :( The writers at Days needs to get a clue. Rachel and Shawn was the best pairing for a couple I have EVER seen. I watch a lot of romances but no one has the chemistry that Shawn and Rachel have. Even their last scene...it was just...wow. It was to see Daniel genuinely relaxed for once since this whole Danloe stuff has started and if you look at the scenes, Daniel only really seems relaxed and smiling around Chelsea. I think that has something to do with the fact that Shawn and Rachel still have that chemistry and connection like never before. I just pray Days brings Rachel back and give her an awesome story. I want them to put her and Shawn back together as Daniel and Chelsea!!
