Frances Reid Memorial

Susan Seaforth Hayes
Susan Seaforth Hayes
— Steven Bergman

Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie): "For the last six years or so any time we would meet fans of Days of our Lives, the first question was always, 'How is Grandma Alice ... Frances? Where is she? Is she alright? Oh I'm glad she's alright. Is she going to be on the show some more? And, of course, in the past five years she wasn't able to be on the show anymore. Her saddest moment that I'm aware of was when her character was killed in the mass bludgeoning under the (James E.) Reilly writing regime. Frances took that rather personally. It was obvious that everyone was getting knocked off, but Frances said, 'You're firing me.' It was like a knife through her heart. She couldn't believe it. She wasn't philosophical about it. She was hurt. Everyone was hurt, but she was really hurt because the show meant so much to her. Her presence meant so much to the people who have loved Days for large portions of their lives. She was eternally beautiful on camera and her character generally was written as a wise, forgiving matriarch. Sometimes her own flash and opinion would shine through some rather maudlin dialogue. She had claws and sparks and ferocity that Alice has never shown. She also was the focus of all the love that Days has earned from its fans over the last 45 years. She's irreplaceable and her kind of character is no longer on the map."

Deidre Hall
Deidre Hall
— NBC

"Frances Reid, although the consummate actor's actor, was far from the donut baking, apron clad wife of Tom Horton most of America knew and loved," Deidre Hall (ex-Marlena) shares with Digest. "She was a saucy, wildly outspoken and politically incorrect woman. Frances was never shy about speaking her mind openly and passionately — even as we counted down to tape. She called it like she saw it, whether she was taking on the union, or critiquing your hairstyle — mincing her words was never an option. She earned the respect and admiration of her friends and peers with her candid approach to life, work, and philosophy."

"Whether you loved or feared her, you always respected her — and if you had the courage, she was a magnificent teacher, mentor, friend," Hall continues. "I feel a strong sense of personal loss as Frances makes her way to Heaven, and know that we shall not look upon her like again."

Peggy McCay
Peggy McCay
— JPI

"She was honest, spunky, and had such a wonderful sense of humor," says Peggy McKay (Caroline). "She was so present, so there. One of the things I really admired about her was her support for her fellow actors. She provided a strong voice for our union. She was a great, great woman."

Leann Hunley
Leann Hunley
— NBC

"One thing I remember about her was that she was full of useful tips for her co-stars," notes Leann Hunley (Anna). "I remember her telling me that as an actress it was very important to take at least a 20 minute nap during the day, but it was just as equally important not to mess up our hair and make-up. She was able to teach me a little trick of how to sleep completely still so when I woke up from my nap I didn't have a hair or eyelash out of place! I love her, she was just lovely."

James Reynolds
James Reynolds
— NBC

"Frances was always a source of joy and inspiration to me," lauds James Reynolds (Abe). "Her professionalism always inspired me to be better. Her joy and interest in life was such a pleasure to be around. I miss our conversations on politics and life. What a wonderful person."

Louise Sorel
Louise Sorel
— Robin Platzer/Twin Images

"Frances Reid was a force of nature, part scamp, highly intelligent, funny, and spirited," says Louise Sorel (Vivian). "We were blessed with her smile and compassion. What a lovely spirit we have to cherish."

Suzanne Rogers
Suzanne Rogers
— JPI

"Since my mom lived on the East coast I always felt that Frances was my California mom," says Suzanne Rogers (Maggie). "She always put me in my place but only in a nice, constructive way. We discussed everything from politics to religion. I miss those conversations. The hardest part about all this is not being able to talk to her again."

Peter Reckell
Peter Reckell
— NBC

"She was, has been, and always will be an inspiration to me — both as an actor and as a person. We will miss her," says Peter Reckell (Bo).

Ken Corday
Ken Corday
— JPI

"This is a very sad day, indeed; not only for me personally, but for the DAYS OF OUR LIVES family and the entire Hollywood community," says Executive Producer Ken Corday. "From day one until she taped her last scene, Frances epitomized the past, present and future of the show. Frances was truly one of a kind. Her class cannot be matched and her shoes cannot be filled… We will miss her all the rest of our days."

Kristian Alfonso
Kristian Alfonso
— JPI

"I just loved her so much," Kristian Alfonso (Hope) tells Digest. "There was just so much about her to love. It's so rare that someone has so much to say with their eyes. They were just so bright and she was just so sharp and fun and smart and worldly and a live wire. I would do scenes with her and I knew that we were acting, but I knew that she loved me and I loved her! When I first moved out here or when I was feeling a little sad, just like a kid, I wanted to crawl up on her lap like it was my grandmother's. It's very sad and it's a great loss."

Bill Hayes
Bill Hayes
— Steven Bergman

Bill Hayes (Doug, DAYS): "Frances was certainly a genius actress and a lovely lady. When I joined the show in 1970, she had already been on it for five years and she was just perfect. Every year, for the first dozen years that I was on the show, she gave the Christmas party for the cast and really made everybody feel like they were a family. She was always funny. She was always direct. She could zero in on her part and other people's parts with such focus. It was just wonderful to watch her. Her last birthday I teetered on the brink of going to call on her, and I didn't. I'm so sorry..."

Melissa Reeves
Melissa Reeves
— NBC

"The news of Frances Reid passing breaks my heart," wrote Melissa Reeves (ex-Jennifer) on her Facebook page. "She was an incredible friend and mentor, not to mention an incredible 'Gram' with a wicked sense of humor! What an honor and blessing to have known her for so many years. I pray she is in great peace now. What a beautiful woman! I am so glad many of you got to know her through 'Days of our Lives.' I love you, Frances! xoxo, missy"

Jason Cook
Jason Cook
— ABC

"My very first day on DAYS I was exceedingly nervous," recalls Jason Cook (Matt, GH; ex-Shawn, DAYS) to Digest. "Big studio, big cast, two shows to memorize...a lot going on. As Peter [Reckell, Bo] called it, induction by fire. He proceeded to laugh at me, pat me on the back and then left me with my script. I'm sure he thought he was being comforting (in the following weeks I would learn how cool he was, despite an odd sense of humor I would learn to love), however, at the time, it was anything but.

My first scene on the show was Shawn entering the pub with Grandpa Shawn at the ready, complete with baseball bat, to knock him out. But as we often had to do, we were shooting out of order for production, and so my ACTUAL first scene to shoot was in the hospital with the entire cast. Someone had crashed a yacht into a helicopter or something, of course was in critical condition, and everyone in Salem had converged into the ER to pray. Shawn comes in, goes straight over to Great Gran, and proceeds to talk for half a page, answering to why he's back and wondering where Belle is. Before the scene is over, before her next line, Frances responds to me by saying,

'You're not going to say it like that, are you?'

Nervous, green, first day — this is not the reaction you want to get out of your co-stars. Especially the matriarch, been there since episode 1, when 20 cast members and an even bigger crew are all silent listening. I thought I was going to be fired before my first scene shot.

'Well, I...that's what is written I think...'

'Well change it. It's terrible. Especially the Great Gran part. I didn't think it was possible to age me any more than I am, but GREAT Gran? Believe me, it's not so great.'

Frances Reid was the most comical, spunky, full-of-life woman I ever knew. Her repertoire of incredible stories seemed endless, both from DAYS and her travels throughout the world (Frances was incredibly well traveled). I feel blessed for my seven years of working with her. But more so, I'm grateful to have known her wit and warm sense of humor first hand. I'll miss you, Frances. You'll always be Gran to me. Just Gran."

Mary Beth Evans
Mary Beth Evans
— Robin Platzer/Twin Images

"She was a sassy gal and we ALL loved her," Mary Beth Evans (ex-Kayla) tells Digest. "She was a riot and so sharp. She might not have seen you in a while — a year maybe — and she would remember details of your life and ask about them. She was funny, sassy and self deprecating; she made us all laugh. She was such a great example for all of us. Frances loved the DAYS OF OUR LIVES family and was always a professional. I know anyone that was lucky enough to know her, is sad today. She will live on in our memories for sure."

Alison Sweeney

— NBC

Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS) tweeted: "I'm so sad to hear the news about Frances Reid. She was a truly talented actress and we are all lucky & proud to have known her."

Nadia Bjorlin

— NBC

Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe, DAYS) added: "Rest in peace Frances Reid (Alice Horton). She was a great lady whom I feel honored to have known..the heart and soul of Days of our Lives."

Shawn Christian
Shawn Christian
— JPI

Shawn Christian (Daniel, DAYS) twittered: "Rest in peace Frances Reid. Condolences to your loved ones. Your stories and your spirit live in the hearts of those you have touched."

Farah Fath
Farah Fath
— ABC

"I'm honored to have known Ms. Frances Reid," Farah Fath (Gigi, OLTL; ex-Mimi, DAYS) tells Digest. "She always put a huge grin on my face and being around her was nothing short of a treat. Her favorite thing to say to me was, 'You're not really going to wear your hair like that, are you?' It made me laugh every time and she would crack up, too. I will always remember Frances and cherish the moments I had with her."

"NBC is deeply saddened by the passing of Frances Reid. She was a true icon of the daytime genre and while we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her long life and the tremendous talent she shared with her generations of fans. She will be sorely missed."

Weekly/Digest will continue to update throughout the day with information and thoughts from Reid's daytime colleagues.

It is so hard to believe that "Alice" is gone. She was like another member of the family and the fact that she has passed away is heartbreaking to many long time fans of DOOL. She is and always was an amazing class act and I only pray that her family knows how much she will be truly missed. Rest in Peace, Frances.

What a truly sad day for any DOOL fan. You could tell everyone loved her. What a testament to a wonderful actress. I hope Ken Corday & DOOL does right by her & prepares a beautiful sendoff for Alice & Frances, befitting of such a beautiful lady. RIP Gran.

I hope that days has a fitting tribute and the veteran actors who portrayed Horton children and grandchildren over the years are able to return, having everyone in the other room sipping coffee woulnd't fly. My favorite memories are of her in the 80s and 90s going on adventures with Hope & Jennifer and her chemistry with MacDonald Carey she even made the horrible serial killer island story bearable.

Frances Reid had lived a long life. Lived longer than other in the world of soap operas. Days of Our Lives has lost an icon that can never be replaced and I sincerely hope that the powers that be would put on a very special tribute to Alice Horton on DOOL. It would be nice to see all the return of characters that would turn out for the funeral episode. God bless Alice Horton!

I am very sad to hear that Frances Reid has passed. She was a special lady. I also pray that the powers that be give her a send off that is befitting of her. May God bless the family of Frances Reid and Grandma Horton.

I am beyond lost for words at learning of the passing of such a WONDERFUL Actress and all around human being. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to meet her. Watching the old clips of her on Youtube, and her bloopers just should what an amazing woman she was. She reminds me of my own Grandmother - sharing the same name is a definite added bonus. RIP Frances, may you watch over all of us for the rest of the DAYS OF OUR LIVES! :) xo love you.

What a horrible day. Frances was like a grandmother that everyone wishes they had. I can say that I had a grandmother just like her character. Loving, wise and full of fun. It is hard for me to hear that she passed yesterday because my grandmother did as well. It now feels like I lost both of them at one time.

Rest in Peace, Frances Reid. Thank you for sharing your kind and gentle spirit with us. I feel like I've lost an auntie.

It really is funny the way our beloved characters become family to us. I was deeply saddened by the news of Frances Reids passing, I grew up watching Days and even started calling my grandmother "Gran". Salem will not be the same without her spirit. May you rest in peace.

WOW. My goodness, I too feel a loss for words. I can not believe the day has actually come when this wonderful lady/actress will not be seen on screen again as our beloved Gran. Oh how I have missed her. I wondered why she wasn't even doing small bits anymore. To the Reid regime that fired her, YOU OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES. You don't fire off or kill the best thing that ever held this beloved soap, Days Of Our Lives, together. Sorry, but you just don't! Some actors/actresses come and go, but the true legends/icons remain in our hearts forever. She was the real deal. And her charachter on Days did not receive the due and proper send off she deserves. I too second the motion that Days better do right by her and ALL the loyal long term DOOL fans! You will be sorely missed Ms. Reid. Thank you for all the lives that you have touched.

I started watching Days after I graduated HS during the Contra hearings when the networks were taking turns airing them. I'd watch Days when Y&R wasn't on. I came to love Frances and Mac Carey. They were so good together. I am glad they didn't let her go after Mac died. I am shocked they let her go when they did. Shame on DOOL producers and NBC! I will miss her.

I think that all of us that have been "Days" fans practically since the beginning feel like we've lost a family member today. Frances Reid was a great actress but more important, a great lady. She will be sorely missed. R.I.P., Frances-we know you're up there giving God advice!

Posted Thu Feb 4, 2010, 7:23 PM — By JudyB

I began watching Days in '61 with 3 small children running around as I did laundry, dishes, cleaned cuts and scrapes......all the while enjoying Alice, Tom and their family. They were a part of my family as well. Today, those small children are all in their 40s, raising families of their own. I can identify with the Alice of then. We'll miss you, Frances.

Posted Thu Feb 4, 2010, 7:31 PM — By Breanna

I'll always remember sitting with my Grandma watching Days of Our Lives. Frances added so much to daytime television & felt like a true "Gran" to all the Days fans who watched her. She was such a loving spirit & will be missed so much. I feel like I have lost a little piece of my own family today. Rest in Peace, Frances. We love you.

I've been a DOOL fan since 1965. Frances Reid will ALWAYS be remembered for getting me through my break-time in the college lounge, lunch-time on the job and many days after retirement. She will never be forgotten. Rest in peace little lady and thanks for the memories.

I knew this day would come, its hard to believe that Alice will never make another batch of donuts, never sit in front of the Christmas Tree with all the Hortons (or the few that are still around), it is such a loss for the DAYS family and fans! I agree with everyone here, No one deserves a better send off than Francis Reid, a small off screen memorial will not only be unfair to her, but to the fans and DAYS stars who I am sure would be honored to take time to remember GRAN. Lets hope the powers that be show the one and only DAYS Matriarch the respect she deserves. and give us all a chance to share in a proper farewell. We will miss you Gran!

Posted Thu Feb 4, 2010, 7:44 PM — By Layne

I have watched DOOL as a child with my mother and grandmother. I feel like I have lost a family member, too. From the Christmas tree ornaments in the Horton living room to the donuts....it will never be the same. We will miss you Gran.

I watched the very first episode of Days to air on TV and watched for years after that. I always loved Frances Reid, the matriarch of this family. She and MacDonald Carey were that show. She will be missed. I also hope they give her the send off she deserves on Days, the cost should not be an issue, she deserves the best!

I have watched Days of our Lives since I was about 10 years old and I remember how much Alice Horton reminded me of my grandmother who got me started watching, I really loved her character and she has been missed from not being on the show and she will be missed in life, she was a great actress. Rest in Peace and may God be with you.

My mother was a devoted fan to DOOL, and she passed the addiction on to me. In the decades I have watched the soap, Frances Reid's Alice has always been my favorite character. No matter how simple the scene, Frances always filled it with so much depth. Her health, not NBC, nor DOOL, caused her infrequent appearances on the show. She survived several strokes, returning to work, before her health became so bad she retired to a nursing home. Thankfully that is all over now, and she can relax in heaven with Macdonald Carey and other friends that I am sure passed long before her. Hopefully her wisdom and devotion to her craft will live on in those she touched with her presence. Bless you Frances Reid.

You were and always will be the Show. I was so young when I first saw you and stayed with you until the very end. At 56 I have lived a lifetime with you. No regrets! You made the show. Rest in peace knowing that you will be missed and loved by all that you touched in your lifetime. Me being one of them. God bless and keep you safe in his arms always. Aloha from All Hawaii!

Days of our Lives was the one soap that I watched everyday of the week. There was not many times that I missed it once. When Alice Horton was on there that was the days that was the best. I will miss her very much. She was what made that soap. There were times that she remined me on my grandma. Which I lost at a young age. She was so much like her. She will always be apart of my memories and in my heart. Rest in Peace and may God be with you and your family.

Along with her, she took a piece of my heart. R.I.P. Frances! God Bless!

From the time i started watching Days, Frances Reid's character, Alice, always reminded me of my own grandmother. She was always so strong willed, had a strong mind and spirit, and just plain feisty. In the last few years she was just adorable. I am going to miss her presence on the show, even though I don't watch it much anymore. And i'm sure she will be missed greatly. May she rest in peace.

I loved watching her with the adventure stories she would do with Jennifer and Hope, what grandma would punch out a cowboy at a wedding? All the help she gave couples throughout the years and support. I sorely miss seeing her already and to have her truely gone, I hope as well that Days gives her a wonderful tribute with all her kids and grandkids and great grandkids there.

I have been watching Days since its debut, finangling ways to watch even when I was in school. Frances Reid was the glue that held Days together and I still chuckle when I remember the time she went under cover with Howie. I can still see her getting on the motorcycle and riding off behind Howie. The powers that be at Days have always been careless in their decisions as to who on the cast should go and when. Sometimes at the height of their characters best work. They do not give fans the opportunity to morn the loss of their long time favorite characters, as shown with the recent quick goodbye to Mickey. Let's hope that France/Alice gets the send off she so richly deserves.

I started watching Days Of Our Lives in 1965, at the age of 5. I am still an avid Days watcher today. My fondest memories of "Gran" include watching her put ornaments on the tree and Christmas and her loving relationship with Tom. She was a lovely lady and will be missed, I'm sure, by all Days fans around the world. Watching her made me feel like I had my own "Gran" in the room with me. I took to heart so much of the advice she gave her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was, and still is, "the wind beneath my wings." I will miss you, Gran. May you rest in peace.

RIP Frances Reid. I wish I had the opportunity to meet her in person. She created an amazing character of Alice Horton who shared warmth, humor, spirit, and values with people around the world for decades. The influence she had on the other actors and actresses who worked with her seems evident from the thoughts above. It seems her spirit and work will never be forgotten. Frances will always be one of a kind. A true legend and icon of daytime television.

My grandmother babysat me while my mom put my father through school..I watched DOOL every day with my now deceased Grandmother...Gram and I would sit while she ate lunch and watched DOOL and I knew better than to talk or cause a fuss while her "story" was on...I grew up watching DOOL...My own son also grew up watching DOOL, I guess it became a family thing because Gram watched it..I miss my grandmother terribly and losing Grandma Alice Horton is soooo very sad...May she rest in peace...I am grateful that she was on the show for as long as she was...Now, DOOL people, enough of the Bo/Carly stuff...we want Bo with Hope...you cannot beat that chemistry..and a special thanks for bringing back Vivien...can you bring back Ivan as well? We need Viv's sidekick..

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Francis Reid a.k.a Gran. She was truly an amazing woman. Salem has never been the same since her depature in 2007. Francis Reid was the picture of class. There has never been nor will there ever be a super/power couple like Francis Reid and McDonald Carey. R.I.P Gran.

Words cannot express what I and I'm sure many DAYS fans are feeling. I am deeply saddened to see the news of Frances Reid passing. My Grandmother watched this show and passed the torch to me when she passed. Now, it feels like my other Gran has passed. My heart and thoughts are with Frances's family. Frances, we loved you on and off screen and we felt your presence in Salem thoughout the time you weren't able to be on. We love you and we will truly miss you. Rest in Peace Frances Reid. Rest in Peace Alice Horton

I am saddened to hear of Frances Reid's passing. She was the heart and soul of the Horton family. I remember her with Tom ( when he was a poet and their support of each other), playing the sleuth with Bo & Hope, times with her children and grandchildren, and most of all the Horton's christmas. I loved the sparkle in her eyes. Days of Our Lives has lost an important member of their cast and family. She will be greatly missed. I hope the show has a story line and memorial regarding her passing and I hope they bring back her family and all who knew her. I would also like to see flashbacks of her greatest moments.

She will be missed. All the traditions she started will ge hard to carry on without her.(the christmas tree ornaments). It is so sad we have lost both of the great characters of Days. Good bye Ms. Reid.

I am so sadden by this loss. I have watched this show since I was kid and she was the best 'grams' to everyone. She was a great person to watch on TV and no doubt an even greater person in real life. The show had Mickey Horton die and our beautiful Alice died of a broken heart. God has a new angel now.

We loved Alice Horton and we admired and appreciated Ms. Reid's work. This is a very sad day.

I would like to see them do a days episode remembering Alice Horton that will allow the viewers to grieve along with the cast. Everyone loved the character Alice Horton. She was the strength.

I feel as if the Days of Our Lives Cast is a part of my family! I started watching as a child when my mother would watch the show and don't miss an episode in present day!.....Please know, that I send my sympathy to her Days family and her actual family and friends in the death of "Our Gram"...aka (Alice Horton)....Frances Reid! May God Bless us all for The Rest of Our Days!

I have watched "Days" since 1965 when my mother-in-law got me started. When not home, I taped it. My children often joke around & say, "Hey mom, what's happening on "Days" lately?" I loved Frances Reid & her character Alice Horton. She brought a sense of family value to the show. I hope they carry on the the Christmas tree ornament segment. Rest in Peace, Alice...you will be missed.

I have watched Days since 1965 and have not watched any other soap opera. Mrs. Horton will be greatly missed. She was the epitome of class!! What a loss for the Days Family!!

Posted Fri Feb 5, 2010, 11:27 AM — By Brian

As a long-time Days fan, the passing of Frances Reid has left a void that will never be filled. She was the heart of the show. Even recently, her character was not on screen but "in the mix" during the Mickey Horton death storyline. She was that vital to Days, always having a presence even though we did not see her. I speak for many Days fans when I say the show will never be the same again, but we are all richer for the love and joy Frances Reid brought to the days of OUR lives.

I started watching Days the first day it started and have been hooked ever since. Alice (Granny) was so much like my Grandma that was a lucky for me to be blessed to have two of them. The show changed alot over the years , but the Horton' family became everyone's family. God be with you Granny and just know our HEARTS are heavy, but our lives have touched by you. Many Thanks to your family for sharing her character with millions. God Bless. Ginny

My fondest memories of Gran Horton include watching her put ornaments on the tree and Christmas and her loving relationship with Tom. She was a lovely lady and will be missed. Watching her made me feel like I had my own Grandma in the room with me. I took to heart so much of the advice she gave her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I will miss you, Gran. May you rest in peace.

I have been watching Frances Reid since before my mom died in 1984. My heart is so sad and I will miss the her. She will always be the number 1 actor of Day Time Soap. Even though she's not been on the show she was always mention in the show. I think you guys should write a funeral for her letting Julie find her and she starts screaming and crying. I wish all of Day's actor the very best and Frances Reid (Mrs.Tom Horton)may she rest in peace now !! She's up in heaven with the late Dr.Tom Horton may there paths cross. I had the chance to meet her at one of the retreats a few years ago, but she got sick and I never got to meet her. I did meet Drake (John Black), and OMG he's so sexy !! Anyways Frances Reid I will always remember you and I love you !! God Bless, Tammy McGarrity

I am so saddened to hear about the death of Francis Reid known to many as Gran. I remember watching Alice at my own grandmother's house back in the 70's as a very young girl. My favorite memories were when Alice would get entangled with Bo and Hope in the 80's. She will be missed by many including me. My condolences to her family. May God bless you Gran, rest in peace. I feel as if I've just lost my own grandmother. I feel like I knew her so much better than I ever knew my 'own' grans! The best stories were the ones at Christmas when all the cast would be at Gran's for the hanging of the ornaments. My granddaughter made me and my husband an ornament this past Christmas that we attached to our chandelier that hangs over our dinner table. It will always be there....we were afraid to put in one of the boxes with other balls because we were so afraid of it getting broken! But while I love that it came from my own granddaughter, it also reminds me of Francis Reid and the family joys that she gave to me and now are passed down to my own family. Rest in Peace, Gran, and thank you for all the Days of MY life.

I was saddened to hear of the death of this great actress and wished it wasn't so. The main reason I watched DAYS was to see the Horton family! Without Alice & her Tom and son Mickey, where can the Hortons go story wise? Alice will always be everyone's Grandma who has watched an episode with her in it. Stories were told just for her to help and guide the other characters deal with the situations that arose in their lives. The 90's were the best because she and Melissa Reeves had a great chemistry and story to tell involving the Alamains. Her character took everyone in her home to welcome them to Salem. Who didn't live in the Horton House? Frances Reid will always be remembered and missed in the heart of every true DAYS fan. My she be with the angels in heaven and watch over us all like a fairy Grandmother 4ever!!!!

When i first watched Days of our lives i did not know much about the show or the cast. But Frances Reid was always there and she did a great job playing Alice Horton. She was such a lovely person and great lady. And even to me she was like another Grandma to me because when i heard her talk each time she was always so kind and gental to every one. I am sadden by the Loss of Frances Reid and Alice Horton. Days of our lives fans will miss her and know that she will always be in our hearts forever. I am 41 years old and have been watching days since I was in diapers. I will miss Frances Reid. She was like a second grandmother to me. She will be dearly missed. I wish I could go to the funeral just to say goodbye. If anyone knows where it is let me know. To the Days writers, lets say goodbye to her together one last time with memories and clips and hopefully with some of the old characters of days.

It was a sad day for me today when I learned our beloved Francis Reid[Alice Horton] passed away. I cried when I heard, as I remembered all the times I enjoyed her being on Days. I have watched Days since it started in 1965, my Mom got me started. I have been watching ever since and Alice was one of my favorite characters. She could be so funny at times! I will miss her so much and hope that Days does a tribute that does her justice. Rest in peace Alice and God bless you and your family and TV family as well. Love you always!

The day I have been dreading came yesterday. I have had the pleasure of watching Francis portraying "Alice" on Days for over thirty years. I will miss Alice. My condolences to Francis' family. To the cast and crew of Days: keep her spirit alive; let her continue to inspire you. I do hope the producers arrange a wonderful tribute for the fans, one that Francis would love. I'm just so sad about Frances' death. I've had the pleasure of watching her through out the years, Days was the first Soap I ever watched and the only Soap that is still close to my heart (I love that show even if i'm mad at how things are going these days). But I love it, Frances was an amazing person, actress and "gram" to all of us who watched/watches DOOL and she will be always missed by me because she was a great lady. RIP Frances Reid (Alice Horton) will live on forever in all of our hearts.

I have watched days since the first day in 1965. I loved Frances Reid as Alice "gran". I miss all those storylines way back and wish they were back again. I still watch Days every day and will continue to watch, but with all of the main actors gone it's not the same. I hope the writers will give a proper memorial for her and make us proud. God Bless Frances Reid. Goodbye Gran!

I have watched DOOL with my mother since it first aired. My mother passed away on Valentines day of 1994. Losing Frances Reid is like another mother and so close to Valentines day again. She was a great inspiration to all. I have missed since the day she left the show.

So sad to hear of the passing of Frances Reid-Gran. I have been watching Days for 35 years. Even after my son was born, when DOOL was on, that was our quiet time together. As he got older, as a teen he sometime joined me as well and enjoyed the show.Even now as an adult, he sometimes would ask me about Alice.Through all of the changes on the show,Alice was the consistent thread that helped keep it all together. She is going to be sorely missed.Hopefully, the writers will give Alice a fitting tribute, as she so deserves. Thanks for the memories, Gran.

When I was 11 yrs old, we did not have cable Tv only a crappy antennae., and the only Tv station came in,snowy, but good enough to watch was NBC- been DAYS Fan since the beginning,Nov 8, 1965. so I soon be 56 yrs! I am very SAD to hear The Lovely, Frances Reid has passed....just last week, i was thinking about Frances, and had bad feeling, she would pass, but not this soon.. I really believe DAYS should bring back all the CAST for this MEMORIAL.. like Deidre HAll,all who was fired, and bring Back Stephen Nichols, & MAry Beth Evans, if Stephen can't come back for all the time, since he is on GH, possibly for Memorial. I have cried and still get teary thinking of Frances,"Grandma Horton" will no longer be on DAYS.. what a Blow to NBC-DAYS. a major Stsr of DAYS should not ever been killed off.. shame on you James O'Reilly.!.NOW Frances is gone but not ever forgotten!!!!. I hope DAYS puts all the 45 yrs on DVD, so I can buy the early days, with TOM & ALICE and FAMILY..

May God rest dear Frances Reid. I've watched days with my family since I was a child. I feel like I am an extended member of the Horton Family. Tom and Alice ARE like my own grandparents. I STILL miss Tom! Now with Alice gone.... And era has indeed ended. If any of the writters etc. read these, please be sure to have an appropriate, just, right, and proper send off for Alice. It would be IDEAL to get any and ALL cast back for a "reunion". Afterall, Tom and Alice were the heart and center of the show... hence the name: "the Days of OUR Lives" it was about the Horton family and their friends. Gram Alice deserves a proper send off. The fans deserve a proper send off and memorial for her. We morn her just as much as a member of our own family! Suggestion: Have all cast come back. Show many clips of alice through the years. Show clips with Tom. End with last one screen of Alice and then her FIRST onscreen appearance. Fade to Tom and Alice dancing. Make SURE to play

I have been a days watcher since day 1 in the living room. My children watched it with me after school and still do, Eather at lunch break from work, or when they get home . Some of them even record it. We got the recipe for alice's donuts, and make them often. I even have my Husband watching days since we are both retired. I missed Tom all these years since his daeth. he reminded me so much of my OWN''FATHER"" who passed away at an early age. Alice ( FRANCES) always reminded me more of my GRANDMA who has alsopassed on. Days will never be the same again espically if they say Gran passed away. It will break my heart to hear those final words spoken on Days by one or many of the cast.. I DO believe it would be proper to have a TRUE :::MEMORIAL''' Service on Days for her very soon. The Olympics are going to be on for 2 weeks, they need it done soon as Days will be emptied during that time. God be with you Frances . May you have PEACE AT LAst _________------ we love you forever..
