Gown With That

— By Devin Owens

During the week of September 21 on WHEEL OF FORTUNE, letter-turning Vanna White wore dresses designed by B&B's Costume Designer Birgit Muller. "Vanna actually comes here [at CBS] for her fittings," explains Muller. "The person in charge of her wardrobe has seen my designs and has been saying for quite some time that they should be worn on the show. The timing was finally right. Vanna tried on maybe 30 and chose the ones she wanted to wear." Here, Muller comments on the designs Vanna donned for those five nights.

Monday

"That is draped silk satin in a Grecian style. It actually had two big rhinestone brooches and we took them off. A friend of mine wore this to the baptism of her child and she's engaged to a big Latin singer and that dress was all over People magazine."

Tuesday

"This dress is more of a sapphire blue but you can't tell in the photo. The midsection is handmade Solstiss lace from France. That lace is $600 a yard. It has sequins and Swarovski crystals. There were actually two of these dresses made for Brooke to wear in a scene. A lot of times we'll make doubles just to be safe. So the other one was auctioned off two years ago on eBay for City Of Hope."

Wednesday

"Brooke wore this silver dress for her last engagement party to Ridge. We actually got bombarded with phone calls about it after it was seen on air. It's Solstiss lace with silver silk satin underneath. The lace really makes the dress."

Thursday

"This dress is made out of silk satin and silk charmeuse. I love bows. Most people don't. I've always been inspired by Valentino and I think he is one of the designers who gets the bow thing right. This dress is the color of cotton candy. I was shopping the other day and saw Paris Hilton. I thought, 'Ooh, this would be perfect for her.' I wanted the dress to be plain so the bow wouldn't be too fussy."

Friday

"I had a client in Spain who was pregnant and wanted a beautiful evening dress. This dress happened after I played with a lot of draping, then pinned it on the mannequin the way I like it. This works for a lot of different shapes. It's cute if you're thin but still looks good if you have a little bit more around the hips."
