BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL Interview
Winsor Harmon: Countdown to Baby— By Deanna Barnert While BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL's Winsor Harmon (Thorne) has pampered his wife DeAnna during her pregnancy, he finally put his booted foot down when it comes to food. He just couldn't eat the highly caloric meals she was making anymore. After all, a guy's got to worry about his figure. "I gained with DeAnna," laughs Harmon, who's expecting his first child with DeAnna any day now. (Editor's Note: Winsor Harmon IV was born May 10. Click here for more.) "Women become very nesty when they're pregnant. The other night, I came home and there were smothered pork chops with gravy, mashed potatoes, homemade biscuits and a big salad."
So what's wrong with that? "I'm pretty much a vegetarian — basically macrobiotic, with a little fish," shrugs Harmon. "I mainly eat whole grains, black beans, brown rice and steamed vegetables. I use a lot of tahini dressing and make tofu burgers. But the last thing you do to a pregnant woman is come into this wonderful meal and say, 'Honey, you know I can't eat that!'"
As he's gobbled up DeAnna's scrumptious fare, Harmon's also had less time to work out. "The past nine months, I've gotten out of my normal habits," continues Harmon, who gets up at 7 a.m. with DeAnna's 5-year-old daughter, August. "I get August fed and dressed in her uniform, with her lunch packed in her sack. Then she goes upstairs and mom combs her hair and says goodbye, before I drop her off at school and go straight to work. That's my routine, Monday through Friday."
Then there's the preparations for the incoming little man of the house, Winsor Harmon IV. "I redid all the rooms downstairs," says Harmon. "I did the nursery, and then, of course, having a 5-year-old, I couldn't repaint one room and not do hers! So we recarpeted and did a whole Ralph Lauren look through all the bottom rooms, for August and the newborn."
Don't get Harmon wrong: He wouldn't be complaining if it weren't for the baby fat. "I can really see it in my face," he concedes, adding that with an eye to losing 10 pounds, he's returned to his macrobiotic ways. "I'm getting back down to fighting weight. I just don't have the time for the two-and-a-half-hour intense workout that kept me in phenomenal shape for so many years. By the time I get home from work, I'm exhausted."
DeAnna might be the first to remind the second-time father-to-be (his daughter Jade is 18) that this is just the beginning.
