BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL Interview

Ronn Moss (Ridge, B&B)
— CBS

Play It Forward

— By Devin Owens

Soap Opera Digest: How do you like your storyline right now?
Ronn Moss: I don't.

Digest: You don't sound very happy.
Moss: I'm not.

Digest: Why's that?
Moss: He should have more class or self-image to not chase Brooke at this point. I just don't think it's appealing. It's obvious that she's into Nick right now, which is fine, the writers should go with that. Brooke has given Ridge absolutely nada to say, like, "Yeah, let's try it." This time, it's always been, "No way! You abandoned me for Taylor." Which is all true. There is no redeeming him at this point.

Digest: Do you really feel that way?
Moss: Yeah.

Digest: So you're not happy with Ridge having sex with a zonked-out Brooke?
Moss: No. The way it was originally written, it was rape. We were all very concerned about it and we changed the scene, pulled a lot of stuff back to make it tamer. That was a tough fine line we were playing. He feels very bad about it. He thinks he can redeem himself. Well, she's gone. It's over as far as she's concerned. She's made it very obvious. I think we need to move on to somebody else. I think we've beaten this one to death. I think the fans agree.

Digest: But you have said before you like to get the fans riled up?
Moss: I like something more substantial to rile them up about. I don't think this quasi-stalker stuff is the way to do it.

Digest: Do you at least like playing the scenes with Ridge and Nick at odds?
Moss: Yeah, I think that's always kind of fun.

Ridge crossed a line with Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang)
— Aaron Montgomery/JPI

Digest: What kind of story would you like to see for Ridge?
Moss: I personally think it's time for Ridge to have a new love interest on the show. Somebody totally new.

Digest: Other than his mother?
Moss: Puh-lease. Tall preferably. I'm putting in my bid for someone tall, blonde and German. Or someone like Nicole Kidman.

Digest: What would you write?
Moss: Just that. I'd write a new love interest for Ridge. Take him to a different place from the last 19 years. He's now gone into what I call obsessive stalking mode of Brooke. It's weird and it's getting weirder.

Digest: What side of Ridge do you want to see again?
Moss: I like it when he's more in control of business and more in charge of the relationship stuff rather than trailing behind a failed relationship, like he's doing now. I like it when Ridge is able to show his strengths. It feels like he's been in weak mode for the last long while. I'm thoroughly over this sort of pathetic stalker.

Digest: Do you really see Ridge as pathetic?
Moss: It seems that way because it's obvious that Brooke is involved with somebody else.

Digest: Your advice to Ridge?
Moss: Just leave her alone and go on with your life. There's gotta be other women in L.A., besides the woman who has had two kids with your dad.

Digest: What are Ridge's strengths now?
Moss: I don't know. Being pathetic seems to be his strength now.

Digest: It seems soap men are written weaker. Do you agree?
Moss: There's a technique to make another character seem strong, you make the other one seem weaker rather than have both characters with strength.

Digest: Do you like Ridge's health crisis?
Moss: Not really. That just facilitated the storyline.

Digest: Have you told Brad [Bell, Executive Producer/Head Writer] about your dissatisfaction?
Moss: No, but I think it's about time I do because Ridge has been lamenting about Brooke long enough. If it seems silly to me, it must seem silly to the fans. We've teased them enough. So I need to talk to him.

Digest: Or let him read this.
Moss: Right.
