Bobbie Eakes Predicts CMA Winners

— By Tonya Lensch

Singer/actress Bobbie Eakes (Macy, The Bold and the Beautiful) knows her country music. Eakes, who hosts Great American Country's Top 20 Country Countdown, reveals her predictions of who will take home the Academy of Country Music Awards this week and sounds off on the Dixie Chicks controversy.

BOBBIE'S PREDICTIONS FOR THE 38TH ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS:

Top Female Vocalist:
Terri Clark
Faith Hill
Martina McBride
Shania Twain
Lee Ann Womack
Bobbie's pick: "I think it will be Martina. She's an industry favorite and a great singer."

ON THE DIXIE CHICKS:

"They have a right — obviously — to say whatever they want to say. We're fighting in Iraq for the same freedoms for those people. But then again, people have a right not to buy [their music] because of that, too. You are free to say whatever you want, you just have to be prepared to let the chips fall where they may. I think probably in the long run everything will blow over for them. They're very talented and they make good music, but this is a very hot-button issue and a lot of people were surprised that they would go to another country and say something so inflammatory. Nobody is keeping them from doing it, but it's like, 'Well, do I want to buy your music?' I can see both sides of it, it's just part of a democracy and free speech."

The Dixie Chicks (l-r: Emily Robison, Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire) spoke with Diane Sawyer about the controversy.
— ABC

Top Male Vocalist:
Kenny Chesney
Alan Jackson
Toby Keith
Tim McGraw
George Strait
Bobbie's pick: "I'm going to go with Alan Jackson."

Top Vocal Duo:
Brooks & Dunn
Hometown News
Montgomery Gentry
Sons of the Desert
The Bellamy Brothers
Bobbie's pick: "I think it will be Brooks & Dunn."

Top Vocal Group:
Diamond Rio
Dixie Chicks
Lonestar
Rascal Flatts
Trick Pony
Bobbie's pick: "That's going to be a tough one. Ordinarily I'd say Dixie Chicks (see sidebar) but now there's this controversy. They'll probably still give it to them, but if not the Dixie Chicks, I think it might be Diamond Rio. They've had a good year."

Entertainer of the Year:
Brooks & Dunn
Kenny Chesney
Dixie Chicks
Alan Jackson
Toby Keith
Bobbie's pick: "That one is a tough one, I don't know. They're all huge and great entertainers. That's a draw."
