Campaign Trail

From Elaine G. Flores: Digest's mailbags were filled with colorful, homemade postcards. AMC fans of "Ailee" showed their love for Aidan and Greenlee with a card that included romantic instructions: "hug, chase after, spoon, woo, canoodle" and so on. Zendall" fans made their presence known with a flurry of cards in support of Zach and Greenlee (and some Dentyne ice gum in Arctic Chill). ATWT's Paul got a shout-out from Roger Howarth fansite, www.therhfactor.net. (I like that Howarth address label, guys). Fans of GH's Sam and Sam and Jason sent cards all the way from Down Under. Marisa S. from Australia wrote, "When Jason and Sam got together, they changed one another and for the better.... Since their split, I hardly recognize them. It is inconceivable that to me how they have turned their backs on one another. I really miss them. They were as good as it gets on a soap."

As you'll see below in the Insider Poll, there was a couple of heated e-mails over last week's bottled-water item. We're in the process of looking at ways to have your voice heard through donations to charity.

From Elaine G. Flores: DAYS's Sami and EJ are getting close and "Ejami" fans are showing their support with glossy postcards, bearing pictures of the duo on their wedding day, smooching and holding hands. GH fans of Jason and Elizabeth have had their hopes dashed for now, but they aren't about to give up. They are asking the show to "End The Drought" and sent Digest cases and cases and cases of bottled Poland Spring water. Seeing as how the sweltering New York office has yet to turn on the air conditioners, we're seriously appreciative!

From Elaine G. Flores: "Zendall" fans had a hot idea this week. To prove their devotion to AMC's Zach and Kendall, they sent us postcards on their burning love — along with the fixings for s'mores.

From Elaine G. Flores: AMC's industrious "Zendall" fans have flooded Digest with clever Missing posters, featuring "The Real Kendall Hart-Slater" and Baby Ian. And what search party would be complete without flashlights? The fans also sent us a whole bunch of keychains that light up. We guess that's one way of asking TPTB to see the light.

From Elaine G. Flores: Well, Valentine's Day at Soap Opera Digest has been really sweet. Thanks to all the fans sending us crazy amounts of chocolate! Check out what OLTL's John and Natalie fans did. We got lots of bars with a personalized label, featuring a picture of the Melissa Archer (Natalie) and Michael Easton (John) and the message: "Love is not in our choice, but in our fate." Awwww! So romantic. And then we got one of the most impressive campaigns we've seen in a while. Trading cards! The Young Love Set at the blog soapteens.com made trading cards featuring just about every young couple you can think of. And the cards had photos and great quotes about love. Check back here for more on all the ways soap fans show their love.

In addition to a box of chocolate, fans of OLTL's Christina Chambers (ex-Marty) went for a warm and fuzzy sentiment — literally — the supporters mailed the office a set of key-lime colored gloves and a matching headband, with the message that bringing Chambers back would "warm our hearts." The fans also asked us to donate the clothing to a local charity or shelter, even suggesting a few (the Salvation Army, Jewish Board of Family and Children and Phoenix House) and supplying contact information. I love that those fans are also thinking of how to put their passion for soaps to philanthropic use.
