Monday

At the hospital, Lily informed Neil that she and Cane want to try for children as soon as possible. Neil didn't think this was a good time to even think about this given Lily's recent health scare, but Lily became visibly happy at the thought of becoming a mother. Cane and Neil talked outside of her room. Neil accused Cane of pushing Lily and reminded him that the doctors only managed to salvage two eggs. Cane didn't want to stop Lily from having her dreams. He then revealed to Neil that Mac volunteered to be a surrogate. Neil still didn't think this was a good idea and urged them to wait five years until Lily was officially cancer free. Cane thought Lily needed this to concentrate on and begged Neil not to take her hope away from her. Later, Cane sat with his wife. She asked if Cane thought it was a bad idea to have Mac carry their baby. Cane replied that he thought they should wait to start planning for a child, but Lily was anxious to become a mom. After, Lily retrieved Colleen's angel charm from her belongings and put it
on. She believed that if she and Cane both want a baby enough, it will happen. Neil joined them and said that he does want to be a grandfather — someday. "Someday might be sooner than you think," Lily said.

Jill, Mac, Nina, Phillip and Katherine waited for word on Chance's condition at the hospital. Chloe called Chance to tell him that she and Billy were now divorced, but Jill answered and reported that Chance had been stabbed. Phillip believed that this was karma for him leaving town all those years ago. Jill accused her son of being a "born runner," who flees from anything that can hurt him. However, she also noted that he wasn't running while Chance was in trouble, and promised to support him.

At Newman Enterprises, Nick and Phyllis discussed the S.E.C. settlement. Jack arrived and commended Nick for trying to make good on the losses the investors with the Cayman Island bank had suffered. He asked Nick if they could smooth the waters and presented him with a bottle of champagne. Jack wanted to toast Nick's "ascension to the throne" at Newman and hoped he'd always be in charge. Nick asked Jack why he was really there, noting that he knows he has to watch his back. Nick questioned Jack about writing the expos with Billy, but Jack evaded the question. Abbott then asked if Kay had been in touch with him. They were interrupted when Billy arrived and said that Nick can't evict him from his office. Jack denied being there on Billy's behalf. Billy bristled when Jack compared him to Adam. Nick left to let the brothers talk amongst themselves. Billy asked if Jack wants to divorce him the way Chloe did. Jack called Billy his "ex-brother." "You can't just keep screwing up like this and hope it all goes away with an 'I'm sorry.' " Jack told him. "It has a cumulative effect, Billy. It affects everything. Like Jabot -- do have any idea how much I have wanted to get that company back? I mean, really back in our family? The opportunities I've passed on, the careers opportunities I've said no to so that I could fulfill a dream, Dad's dream of having you, me and Ashley working together? But no,
that wasn't good enough for you. No, you had to spoil that, too. You can ruin a dream, too. Good for you."

Phyllis opened a letter that had been sent to Summer from Patty, apologizing for making her sick. She went to the mental institution and paid Patty a visit. However, when she confronted Patty with the letter, Patty couldn't recall writing it. Phyllis accused Patty of faking her mental illness and reminded her that she nearly killed Summer; she got right into Patty's face and warned her that if Patty weren't in the safety of the hospital, she'd be in trouble. Patty cowered in the corner. They were interrupted when Emily arrived. Phyllis was shocked to see the look-alike shrink. Emily spoke with
Phyllis in the hallway and stated that Patty is fragile. Phyllis noted that Patty stole Emily's face and tried to kill Summer. She then showed Patty the letter, which Emily took the blame for. Phyllis didn't want to hear about how messed up Patty is. Later, Phyllis filled in Nick on her encounters with Patty and Emily, while Emily confided in Jack about her and Phyllis's meeting. Jack explained how Phyllis had been accused of hurting her own daughter at first, and that Patty was set on damaging any woman who came close to him.... In her cell, Patty cried and wished for Jack to return.

Chloe arrived at the hospital and had a heart-to-heart with Kay about how great she thinks Chance is. Nina overheard their talk as Chloe revealed that she and Billy are finally divorced. Kay tried to stay optimistic and comforted Chloe.... Billy arrived and started going off about why Cane wasn't there. Jill informed him that Cane is with Lily. Billy then vented about his problems with Jack, but Mac calmed him down and reminded him that they were at the hospital because Chance had been stabbed. Mac was about to reveal that she wants to be Cane and Lily's surrogate, but Kay asked to speak with Billy. Kay lectured Billy about his life choices, but stated that she still loves him.... Nina was in tears over Chance's condition. Phillip said that he's scared, too, but she said that he doesn't get to be scared since he'd left the family. Phillip held her and promised that he wasn't going to run away this time.... Mac finally told Billy that she's going to carry Cane and Lily's baby. "No you're not," a disbelieving Billy snapped.... The doctor informed Chance's loved ones that they were able to stop the internal bleeding. When Chance was wheeled to his room, a tearful
Nina and the rest of the family followed. Chloe stood in a corner and tried to compose herself.

Tuesday

Billy was determined to talk Mac out of being a surrogate for Cane and Lily. "I told you, I need my life to mean something," Mac reminded but the idea still irked Billy. She hit the nail on the head upon theorizing that Billy doesn't want her first pregnancy involving someone else's child. Billy added that Cane doesn't deserve Mac's generosity. Mac insisted that she isn't changing her mind and Billy stormed away.

Nina and Phillip were relieved when Chance finally gained consciousness (after hearing Chloe's bedside confession that she had feelings for him). When the ladies went outside of the room, Nina advised Chloe to leave but she countered she was over Billy and intended to prove it. Phillip freaked when Chance was gripped with pain so a doctor administered medication. Nina calmed Phillip down and he lamented that he didn't deserve a second chance with his family. Meanwhile, Chance and Chloe were becoming closer as she showed her signed divorce papers. "I'm officially no longer Mrs. Billy Abbott," Chloe declared, which made Chance very happy.

At a teacher/parent meeting, Ashley learned that Abby's studies have been suffering but Ash chalked it up to the recent traumas (Brad and Colleen's deaths and Victor's surgery). "When she's not daydreaming in class, she's picking fights with her fellow students or even me," explained the teacher. "She's also been skipping class." Ashley still defended Abby, which exasperated her teacher.

Michael informed Kevin and Ryder that Ryder's trial date was set for February 5th. Kevin was certain that once Ryder's alibi was verified, there wouldn't be a trial. Both Michael and Kevin were surprised when Ryder wanted to take his chance with a jury instead of revealing where he was on the night of the shooting. Kevin surmised that Ryder is protecting someone.

Abby met up with Daisy, Noah and Eden at Crimson Lights. When Abby mooned over Ryder, Daisy noted that her friend could do better. The teens headed out for school, but Abby lingered to chat with Ryder. After flirting, she asked for his phone number but Kevin interrupted and warned his brother to stay away from "jailbait."

As their wedding plans progressed, Amber assured a budget-wary Daniel that costs wouldn't get out of control. Thanks to her connections in L.A., Amber announced that The Kings of Leon would play at their reception. Daniel thought that things were going over the top so Amber promised a low-key ceremony.

Mac discussed the legalities of surrogacy with Michael.... Ashley tried to talk to Abby but she lashed out at her mother for falling apart and driving Victor away.... Billy tracked down Chloe at the hospital and expressed his concern that Delia was getting too comfortable with Chance. She reminded her ex that they were no longer married.... Lauren was impressed when she witnessed Daisy ordering Ryder to stay away from Abby.... Nina was concerned when Phillip suddenly disappeared from Chance's hospital room.... Kevin warned Daniel that if Ryder is cleared of murder, Daniel could become the prime suspect again.

Wednesday

Michael popped into Crimson Lights and phoned Daniel to warn him that Ryder might have an alibi for the murder. Hanging up, Michael turned to Ryder, who was working behind the counter. Michael demanded answers about his alibi. "If you want me to defend you, then work with me!" he snapped. Ryder finally admitted that he couldn't prove his alibi. He said that he had driven to Chicago for the day and came back that night. Michael needled him further, but Ryder couldn't produce any gas receipts or other evidence to back up his alibi. Frustrated, Michael called an associate to run Ryder's license plates. Ryder left to go confront Deacon. At Deacon's hotel suite, Ryder pushed his way into the room and raged at Deacon for letting him take the fall for the murder. Deacon explained that he was waiting for Ryder's mother to give further instructions; that she was the one calling the shots. Ryder was furious with Deacon for screwing up the Terroni deal and now hanging him and his mom out to dry. The two began shouting and Deacon threw Ryder out of the room. Ryder brought up Deacon's son, but Deacon informed him that he had his son hidden somewhere safe ... somewhere where Ryder's mother could never threaten him again.

At the Ranch, Ashley welcomed Adam back from his business trip. She was sympathetic when she learned that he had broken his collarbone while trying to negotiate the streets of D.C. He scoffed at her suggestion of using a cane. "Not yet!" he said emphatically. The two discussed Abby's downward spiral, and Adam offered to help. Ashley thanked him, and asked if she could discuss business with him. When Adam wondered why Ashley would trust him when nobody else did, she responded, "I believe in you, Adam." He was touched by her kindness.

Phyllis showed up at Daniel's apartment at Amber's request. The couple excitedly shared the news about their engagement and upcoming June wedding. Phyllis was less than thrilled about their plans. Amber received a call from Katherine and left to meet her. Once Phyllis had Daniel alone, she let loose on him with all her doubts and concerns. Daniel interrupted her rant, stating that he wasn't sure there would be a wedding after all. He explained that if Ryder has a solid alibi for the night of the murder in the alley, then the spotlight would turn back on him. Daniel shared his fear that Deacon and Ryder were still setting him up. Phyllis was adamant that Daniel would be cleared. She assured him that she would be there for him no matter what and advised Daniel to tell Amber the truth about Ryder's possible alibi. Phyllis left and went straight to Deacon's hotel room. "If you're going to hit me again, can you try the other side?" he snarked. Phyllis warned him that it would be a huge mistake to try to destroy her son. Deacon exploded and admitted that he was working for people who would hurt his son if he didn't cooperate. Phyllis wasn't buying it and demanded that he turn himself into the police.

Michael met with Ryder at the coffeehouse to inform him that his alibi had been corroborated. He showed Ryder a photograph of his car taken at an intersection in Chicago at the time of the murder. Ryder was grateful to Michael, but split when Michael began interrogating him about the person pictured in the car with him. Meanwhile, also at the coffeehouse, Jack ran into Nicholas and couldn't resist sticking it to him. "So with Victoria's resignation, the only Newmans left at Newman are you and your brother," Jack sneered. "I hope you're keeping him on a short leash!" Both men agreed that they wished Adam wasn't living at the Ranch with Ashley. They made a pact to alert each other if they observed anything alarming where Adam was concerned.

Amber arrived at the Club to meet Katherine. Over lunch, Katherine and Amber discussed her nups. Amber thanked her for hosting the wedding at her mansion. "You will always, always be part of my family," Kay responded warmly. Amber lamented that her horrible childhood had led her to do selfish things. She expressed how grateful she was for a second chance and for meeting the love of her life. Amber left and returned home to Daniel, who was about to disclose the truth when his cell phone rang. It was Michael, calling with the bad news that Ryder's alibi was airtight. Hanging up, Daniel announced, "I'm sorry, but I can't marry you," to a stunned Amber.

After lunch, Katherine returned to Jabot and met Neil to discuss business. Ashley arrived, and began subtly pumping Neil for information about Chancellor Industries. Jack burst in to meet with Katherine and was surprised to find Ashley there. She covered, saying that she was just "checking in." After Jack and Ashley left, Neil and Kay discussed Ashley's fishing expedition with regard to the Chancellor IPO. "She couldn't have been more obvious if she had shown up with a tackle box and pole!" Neil pointed out. The two Chancellor execs agreed never to let the Abbotts "circle the wagons" and buy up controlling interest in Chancellor.

Jack and Ashley dined together at the GCAC later, and Jack pressed Ashley to help him buy up Chancellor stock. She refused, saying that he would have to do his own dirty work.

Adam met with Nicholas at Newman. He offered to pitch in and take over some of Victoria's projects. Michael arrived and interrupted. Michael and Nicholas announced that the employee suspected of turning Newman into the SEC was going to be brought in and questioned. Adam squirmed as he recalled his OWN phone call to the SEC. When the employee arrived, Nicholas began questioning her. She defended herself, saying that her cell phone must have been stolen by the person who had alerted the SEC. Nicholas informed her that he was transferring her to their satellite office in Milwaukee. Adam was pleased when it appeared as though Nicholas had put the situation to rest. Nicholas, however, was still skeptical. He warned Adam that he still suspected him of triggering the SEC investigation and that he would be watching him closely. Nicholas piled on more "grunt work" for Adam, and warned him that he would never be more than "errand boy" around Newman. Adam called Nick out on his attempt to oust him from the company. "I hate to disappoint you, big brother, but you are stuck with me," he sneered.

Thursday

Chloe paid Chance a visit in the hospital. They shared a sweet moment as they tried to get to know each other a little better by quizzing each other about their favorite things. Chloe joked that she's allergic to polyester and asked him if he'd heard from his dad yet. When Chloe's relationships with men was brought up, she rushed out to prove to Chance that she's the kind of girl guys only like to have short-term relationships with. Meanwhile, Nina told Jill she's shocked that Phillip just disappeared and was miffed that he hadn't answered any of her messages. Jill advised her to give him some time.

Paul, who'd just returned to town, got a surprise visit from Phillip, who admitted he's having a hard time since the stabbing. Phil filled a confused Paul in on what happened and asked him to go support Nina for him, explaining that he doesn't feel like he has a right to be at the hospital. They bonded over being the outsiders; Paul urged Phillip to work at earning his welcome and told him nothing can be gained by simply leaving. Later, Nina was happy to see Paul show up at the hospital but angry at Phillip for "passing the buck."

Daniel was worried about Ryder's alibi and feared that he'll go to jail. He and Amber bickered about his decision not to get married, since he didn't want Amber saddled with an inmate for a husband. Amber accused him of making decisions without her, so Daniel blasted Amber for the Deacon fiasco. Amber lost her cool and was angry at him for not trusting her love for him. She stormed out. leaving her engagement ring behind. Daniel went to ask Kay if she's seen Amber and explained that they had a fight. Kay hadn't so he left to go find her. Amber, meanwhile, was on the roof and flashed back to all the good times the she and Daniel had shared. She broke down in tears. He finally found her shivering in the cold and gave his jacket to her. They made up and Daniel asked Amber to marry him right now.

Cane had coffee with Mac and sought her advice about his and Lily's baby situation, worrying that a pregnancy would be a big long shot since they only have two embryos. Mac told him that the doctors are doing everything they can and was happy to be their surrogate. She felt obligated to bring up if Cane's ever thought about the fact that he might have to raise the child on his own. He had and said he'd do everything necessary to love and care for his baby, no matter what. Mac also said she thinks Billy will come around to the idea. Billy, meanwhile, was visiting Kay, who said she doesn't agree with the article he wrote about Victor but she still loves him. He sought her advice on the Mac situation. Later, Cane brought Mac a pendant of a little kangaroo and thanked her for carrying his and Lily's child. Billy walked in and saw them hug and was not happy. He refused to get on board with her decision to be the surrogate and gave her an ultimatum; she wasn't pleased.

Chloe found Phillip browsing books. She encouraged him to go see his son. She was picking up a copy of Breakfast at Tiffany's for Chance to give Chance more insight into who she is; Phil was purchasing Adventures of Huckleberry Finn for him to remind him of better times they shared together. Back at the hospital, Paul proudly showed off his scars to Nina and Chance. The trio had a nice moment together. Later, Phillip arrived and apologized for taking off so suddenly. He gave Chance the book and was happy when Chance asked him to sign the inscription with "Dad." Chloe, meanwhile, showed Chance her book and they agreed to get to know each other more face-to-face. Paul found Jill in the hall, and she asked about Katherine's daughter. Paul explained that the woman who put her up for adoption has disappeared and records have been erased. Kay arrived and sensed that something was up. When she demanded to know what they are talking about, Jill covered, pulled Paul into an impromptu kiss and claimed that they're dating. Nina and Phillip spied the buss.

Friday

Cane and Billy faced off over the idea of Mac acting as a surrogate for Lily and Cane. "You have completely crossed the line," Mac told Billy after Cane left. They argued over the surrogacy. Mac realized that they had nothing in common. "We have different goals, different values. How can two people make a life together..." she sighed. More bickering ensued. He insisted he wouldn't give up on her and kissed her. She cried that they weren't the same people anymore. Mac left; Billy drank and became frustrated about his situation.

Paul went to visit Patty in the psych facility and ran into Emily, who said she saw glimpses of awareness in Patty, but they were few and far between. Emily's cell rang but she didn't pick it up. Paul visited Patty and brought a photo album of their childhood. She looked through the pages and smiled that she would show them to Jack when he got home. She spied a photo that was taken after she almost drowned in a neighbor's pool and reminded Paul that he saved her. "You're always there to rescue me," she said and hugged him. They then sang a song from their childhood which made her smile. After, Patty stared off into space and told Paul out of nowhere that she would hurt Jack again if he ever tried to leave her for someone else. An upset Paul gave her a reassuring hug.

Jack left a message for Emily, noting that he didn't like the impression he left with her. A frantic Phyllis rushed over to Jack and said she needed help because Daniel and Amber had gotten engaged. Jack didn't understand why Phyllis was so surprised. "My son has a penchant for impulsive marriages," she noted. Jack told her to relax and said he wasn't getting involved. He pointed out that she needed to support Daniel now in case the marriage didn't work out so he would turn to her. Phyllis calmed down after she realized she had until June — when they planned to wed — to break them up.

Emily tracked down Jack and said she felt the best thing for Patty would be for him to stay away. She asked if she could join him. She ordered a martini and asked Jack for information about his and Patty's relationship. He told her it was all bad and that he was an "equal opportunity jerk" back then. Emily was surprised that Jack was being so frank about his unsavory past. He said his father dying had a big impact on him and in his last marriage, he learned a lot, which is why he's so open now. At the end of their night, Jack asked her out on a proper date.

On the rooftop of their apartment building, an overjoyed Daniel and Amber talked about their upcoming nups. Katherine arrived and they revealed they wanted to get married right away. The duo asked if she would get ordained online so she could perform the ceremony. She said yes. Daniel said he would take care of it, then hurried out to find Kevin and Jana. Amber called Lauren, who was at the bookstore, and said she was getting married ASAP. Lauren said she had the perfect dress, said good-bye to Daisy and rushed off.

At Java, Jana told Daniel that she did not like the idea of him and Amber getting married on Friday the 13th. Ryder inquired about the nups; Daniel told Ryder he wasn't invited. Kevin and Jana took off. Gloria came in; Ryder asked if they could talk. They had an uneasy chat about Tom and Ryder's upbringing.... Ryder spied Deacon and went over to his table. He revealed that Daniel and Amber were getting married that night. Phyllis walked in. Deacon congratulated her about the wedding. She was confused. He told her it was happening at that moment. She shrugged it off, then ran out.... Ryder told Gloria he had to run an errand and asked her to watch the counter.

On the roof, wedding arrangements were underway. Kevin, Murphy and Jana hung lights and tinsel. Daniel came in with Katherine's certificate. "I'm a minister," she marveled. Murphy walked Amber "down the aisle" and told Daniel to "treat her nice." Katherine began the ceremony. An out-of-breath Phyllis ran in, asking why they had switched the date from June. She told Daniel to think about things. Amber made an impassioned speech about how much she loved Daniel and Daniel asked his mother to stay. Phyllis obliged. Amber said her personal vows to Daniel as Phyllis buried her head in her hand. Daniel said his, promising that they'd be together forever. "You are my world," he declared. Katherine pronounced them husband and wife. Everyone but Phyllis was thrilled.

Cane visited Lily in the hospital. She told him she was getting released the next day. He mentioned that Billy was trying to talk Mac out of acting as a surrogate. Mac arrived to assure them that "Operating Ashby" was still a go. Lily and Cane were delighted.
