Young and Restless Recaps
Y&R Week of July 5, 2010
Monday
An orderly came looking for his flashlight. Adam pretended to be insane then pulled it out to stalk Patty. Patty flashed back to the ball and said, "It was a lie. I didn't kill Adam." Adam shined the flashlight in her eyes and said he was Adam coming back from the dead to get her to admit she murdered him. Adam taunted her that Patty stabbed him in the neck with a pen and has blood on her hands so she will burn in hell. "No I didn't," she screamed, looking at her hands and seeing blood. The nurse came in to find Patty babbling that she killed Adam. "I confess!" Down the hall, the cops arrived to arrest Adam. Michael and Lauren met Gloria and Jeff at Indigo, wondering how they could get in to the club on a holiday. "Cheers to me" exulted Gloria, revealing that Jeff bought Indigo for her. Michael and Lauren debated not going to the Chancellor house for the July 4th party, worrying that Gloria will rub her new club in everyone's faces, while Lauren's new sister Jill will probably want to wear matching dresses. Tucker invited Ashley to be his guest at the party, saying Neil is with Lily, so it won't be awkward. Tucker gave Ash the bad news that Abby has a new video out. Daniel brought Abby to the party. "We need to talk," said Ash, dragging Abby away. The video made her want to vomit. Abby retorted that she is just getting started -- and all Ash will ever be to "Player McCall" is flavor of the month. Ash started to cry and said she is ashamed of Abby. Victoria called Billy at the party, saying Reed was with JT, and she wanted to eat ice cream and watch the FATHER KNOWS BEST marathon at Billy's apt. "I'm a LEAVE IT TO BEAVER guy myself," responded Billy, agreeing to meet her. "That's a lovely dress you're wearing, Mrs. Newman," said Billy to Nikki as he Eddie Haskell'd his way out of the party. The party was in full swing when Jill showed up with a man named Morgan Bellford. Nikki and Katherine observed Jill paying him and assumed he was a gigolo. Katherine asked them to leave; Jill refused. Jill excused herself to corner Lauren and ask for Fenmore family photos. Lauren suggested Jill research her dad at the library. Ash shared with Katherine that she and Neil broke up. Gloria gloated to Nikki about her new club. "Have you ever run a club, Gloria?" asked a skeptical Nikki. Gloria and Jeff rambled on about their plans for "Gloria's." Tucker asked Katherine how Victor has such a death grip on Japan. Murphy interrupted to decree no business talk. Jill clinked her glass to make an announcement, but they were interrupted by Abby floating naked in the Chancellor pool (surrounded by bubbles that represent pollution) and yelling ‘Save the otters!" for the cameras. Daniel pulled Abby out of the pool and covered her with a towel. Katherine blasted Abby and threw her out. Back to me! insisted Jill, blathering on about having finally found "the essence of her being" and announcing that Neil Fenmore was her father. Jill has legally changed her name to Jill Fenmore. Lauren rolled her eyes, as crickets literally chirped. "Don't everyone congratulate me at once," sneered Jill. Michael offered to throw Jill in the pool, while Nikki told Lauren to watch her back. Tucker congratulated Jill for finding her birth family, but advised her not to change her name. Nikki yelled at Jill for being so insensitive to Lauren, saying "That is not the way you work your way into a family." "Oh, should I shake my tassels and marry in?" snarked Jill. Lauren thanked Nikki for trying to help and then told Jill she will never be a Fenmore. Victoria and Billy shared ice cream and watched FATHER KNOWS BEST, which Billy pronounced as big irony in light of Victor being Victoria's father. Is this the episode where the dad punches the daughter's boyfriend in the local gym? The power went out. Billy lit candles, put on the transistor radio, and imitated the dad on FATHER KNOWS BEST, saying "Gosh darn it" as they removed their clothes. Daniel chastised Abby at Crimson Lights for being rude to Mrs. C. Abby asked him again to pose for Restless Style with her. Daniel softened while they watched fireworks and said he had to laugh at the look on everyone's faces when Abby was covered in bubbles. Gloria and Jeff went back to Indigo and knocked out walls with a sledge hammer. Katherine and Murphy held hands and watched fireworks. Ashley thanked Tucker for being there for her during her confrontation with Abby. Michael asked Bellford how he knows Jill. "I am her new attorney," he replied, adding that he will see Michael in court.
Tuesday
JT helped Mac stand up at the hospital. They talked about Lily's health. Mac dropped the bomb that Lily wants Cane and Mac to share custody if Lily dies. Lily talked to the babies in their incubator as Neil and Cane looked on. Lily confided to Mac that if she doesn't make it, she won't feel cheated because she will have left Charlie and Matilda behind. Mac said goodbye to the babies and let JT wheel her out of the hospital. Lily invited Mac to come visit when the babies get home. Lily said goodbye to the babies and headed out for the stem-cell transplant. Back at the manse, Mac confided to JT she felt sad. Did JT go through post-partum with Victoria? Um, no -- Victoria was in a coma, remember? Oops!
Malcolm and Devon set up the photo shoot for Abby's Restless Style cover. Billy told them he wants the theme for his niece‘s cover to be "sweet and discreet." Billy congratulated Abby on winning the bet and getting her way. Abby told Malcolm she wanted to make changes on the cover. Chloe introduced Abby to her fellow cover model, Lars. Take off your clothes, ordered Abby. Malcolm, Devon and Chloe decided privately to trick Abby into thinking she is getting her way with the racy cover, then shoot the real one. Daniel showed up to deliver Abby's sunglasses. Abby and Lars stripped naked. Malcolm started shooting. Billy ran in, ordered them to stop, and covered Abby. Daniel advised Abby to go a little softer with her approach. Abby said fine -- only if Daniel poses with her. Billy promised Daniel a photo essay in a future issue if he would do it. Abby posed naked behind inflatable pool animals with Daniel, while suggesting headlines about animal rights.
Pomerantz gave a press conference about how he was going to pursue both Adam and Nick for Hightower's murder. Michael questioned why Patty's confession didn't hold more weight in the investigation. The DA pronounced Patty "nutty as a fruitcake" and dismissed her admission that she killed Adam. Victor suggested Adam coerced Patty's confession. Victor demanded Michael find the worst public defender in town to defend Adam.
Paul questioned Patty about confessing to Adam's murder. She said she had to confess because the devil came to her and told her to do it, and his light burned in her brain. "It was a nightmare. Let it go," advised Paul. The DA assured Paul he is not going after Patty. If she knows details of the murder, it's probably because Adam fed them to her. Adam was in this hospital? gasped Paul. Yes -- the DA is getting security tapes. Pomerantz questioned Patty. She shared lots of details of the night of the ball that had not been released. Michael said that proves Nick is not the killer. The security tapes show Adam and Patty never crossed paths in the common room. Is there another way Adam could have gotten to Patty? asked Paul. No, asserted the boss of the loony bin. Paul didn't buy it.
Adam was taken to jail and ran smack into Nick. Nick ran through the evidence against Adam. Adam said there's no law against donating bone marrow -- all they have on him is fleeing the country. What kind of man kidnaps his own brother's child? asked Nick. Adam said Ashley was nuts and the doctor was a sex offender -- nice evidence. The jury will see that Adam was just a poor farm boy who tried to get close to his family. Nick spit that Adam might as well have a neon sign on his head that said "Sociopath." "I couldn't agree more," boomed Victor. Adam vowed to spill all the Newman family secrets on the stand. A short, nerdy lawyer showed up saying he was there to represent Adam. Victor updated Nick on Patty's confession, adding that Adam could have manipulated Patty into killing Hightower. Michael arrived with the news that Nick had made bail -- let's go home. Meanwhile, the conspiracy case against Adam was airtight -- and look at his lawyer! The public defender advised Adam to plead guilty. "You're fired," responded Adam. Billy showed up at the prison wanting Adam's story for Restless Style. Adam said he'd give it to him in exchange for Billy getting Rafe to defend him. "Rafe wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire," retorted Billy. Those were Adam's terms -- take it or leave it.
Wednesday
Paul visited Patty in the mental hospital and questioned her about her confession, that she murdered Hightower. He wondered if she'd really been at the crime scene or was coerced into confessing by Adam. Patty admitted that she sees Adam "everywhere" and began to freak out. She begged Paul to make Adam leave her alone.
Sharon was surprised to see Adam at the jail. He revealed that Nick had been released and that he'd tricked Sharon into coming to see him instead. She was furious, but Adam reminded her that she once cared for him. Sharon accused Adam of faking his breakdown on the stand, but he denied it. She didn't buy it and called him a liar. She then got a call about Patty's confession. Adam explained that Patty had been furious with him and that she'd killed Hightower thinking that he was Adam. Sharon was incredulous and reminded Adam that he'd set up Nick. Adam implored Sharon to believe in his innocence. An angry Sharon stormed out.
Billy dined at the G.C.A.C. and flashed back to how Adam offered to give his story to Restless Style if Billy could get him Rafe. Just then, Victor approached Billy and wondered what he was up to. Billy accused him of being paranoid, but Victor believed that the young man was looking for a tabloid story. Victor didn't want Billy to write about Adam's case, fearing that it could hurt Nick -- and warned Billy that if he messed things up, Billy would have to deal with him. Billy wasn't fazed; after Newman stepped away, Billy called Rafe. Rafe met him at the magazine and Billy asked for his pal's help in getting his story. A reluctant Rafe agreed to assist him.... Billy went to the prison and ran into an upset Sharon. He asked if she needed to talk.
At the Abbott manse, Jack and Emily snuggled and celebrated her getting her license back. Jack was thrilled that they were together again. Paul stopped by and informed them of Patty's confession and Nick's release. Paul didn't entirely believe that Patty was the murderer. Jack wondered if Patty and Adam's paths had crossed; Paul revealed that Patty had been visited by "Satan." Emily suspected that Adam got to Patty somehow and was using her as a scapegoat. The men agreed.... At the hospital, Patty curled into a ball on her bed and sobbed. "The devil made me do it," she cried.... Victor arrived at the manse and suggested that Emily help them get to the truth. Jack didn't want Em to be involved, but Emily and Paul agreed that it was a good idea. Jack begged Emily to reconsider and find another shrink for Patty. Still, Emily wanted to get to the bottom of the murder and was ready to help Victor out. Jack argued with Newman, but Victor was determined to help his son.
J.T. carried Mac to a lounge chair by the Chancellor pool and joked about flexing his muscles for her. She didn't want to be looked after, but he insisted on taking care of her. Mac admitted that she misses the twins and that it was difficult to give them to Cane and Lily. J.T. understood how conflicted she was and reminded her that she'd always be in the kids' lives. Mac countered that being their "Aunt" wouldn't be the same. She wished she'd listened to everyone who'd warned her how difficult giving them up would be.... In the hospital, Cane sat with Lily as she admired pictures of the babies. She wished she could be with them, but Neil promised to keep her updated on their every move. Cane assured her that this new treatment would work for her cancer. Neil had a good feeling about it, too. Cane went to visit with the twins and Neil stayed with his daughter. She asked how her dad was doing and he shared that he sold Indigo. She was shocked, but he was content with his decision. He then told her that he broke up with Ashley. Lily felt badly for him, but Neil believed that it was for the best. Neil reminded Lily how much he loved Drucilla. They agreed that they miss her, but Lily still wanted him to be happy.... Mac broke down to J.T. over the twins. He noted that the babies' stem cells could save Lily's life and assured Mac that her future would be "awesome." He made her laugh when he joked that she'd end up with 15 cats. Mac blurted out that she loves him. She was embarrassed, but he was touched.
Cane went to see the babies and told them that they'd soon be able to go home as a family and live happily ever after.... Lily tried to remain calm as she awaited the procedure. "If I don't make it, at least I know I tried everything I could to be here for the twins," she stated to Neil. Later, the nurse allowed Lily to get out of bed, but as soon as she stood up, Lily collapsed. She soon regained consciousness and she shared that she'd had an out-of-body experience while she'd been out. She believed that it was a sign that everything would be okay.
Rafe went to see Adam and asked why Adam wants him to be his attorney. Adam replied that if someone who hates him is his lawyer, it'll help prove his innocence. "Go to hell," Rafe snapped.... Billy and Sharon went to the magazine office. There, he asked her why she was willing to listen to Adam. Sharon answered that she wants to find the human in Adam so she can know that she hadn't married a monster. She then revealed that Patty had confessed to the murder, but that Nick wasn't off the hook yet. Sharon wasn't entirely sure that Adam was the murderer and wished she could know the truth. After Sharon left, Billy said out loud that he now had the "damsel in distress" he needed for his story.
Paul and Emily visited Patty. Em questioned Patty about her confession, but Patty didn't want to talk. Emily pleaded with her to help and promised that Patty is safe. She informed Patty that Adam really had been in the hospital and asked if Adam had scared her into confessing. Patty acknowledged that Adam had coerced her into confessing, but still insisted that she stabbed "him" and he'd died right in front of her. Paul called Jack and Victor with the news; both felt somewhat responsible for Hightower's death.
Thursday
Victor ordered Michael to get the charges dropped against Nick, vowing to bring in the governor and hold a press conference about how Pomerantz has a vendetta against the Newman family. Michael went to Pomerantz and warned him that Victor was on the warpath, listing all the evidence proving Nick's innocence. "As one litigator to another, you are letting your ego interfere with your principles," advised Michael. Whatever happens now, Pomerantz brought on himself.
Chance and Heather were disturbed to learn Frank Ellis had been moved to a cushy prison. They wondered if Chance's new partner Ronan had something to do with it. Chloe eavesdropped outside the door with a glass. Ronan came up behind her, suggesting she wiretap them. Chance opened the door, and they all went inside. Chloe blathered about planning their wedding and how cute Delia was, to Heather's obvious chagrin. Ronan, Chance and Heather argued over whose fault it was that Ellis got transferred. Chance got a call that Ellis had escaped. "Same MO as Briggs," recalled Chance, fretting that the crooked cops let Ellis go just to murder him. Ronan left and made a cryptic call that Chance was not going to "go along with the program." Heather and Chance discussed how to catch the dirty cops as Ronan listened on a wiretap.
Phyllis was not happy to come home with Summer and Daniel to find out Nick was at Sharon's. Daniel doesn't think Phyllis and Summer should come in second to Sharon. Daniel will make Phyllis a key to his pad in case she needs some place to go. Phyllis said she loves Nick and will stay with him until the charges are dropped. At Sharon's, Nick and Sharon marveled at how Faith has grown. Nick asked how Sharon knew he had made bail before he told her. "From Adam," she responded. Nick lectured Sharon again to stay away from Adam. Sharon asserted that she has a mind of her own, and suggested Nick go home to his "other family." Nick did. Daniel left. Nick promised Summer "no more business trips." Alone, Phyllis chastised Nick for not being there when they got home. Victor arrived to embrace Nick and share the news that he has decided to go to the state attorney and governor to clear Nick's name. Michael delivered the news that Pomerantz is dropping the charges. That's not enough, boomed Victor. He wants the DA to publicly apologize.
Abby called Billy with another idea for her cover story regarding manatees. Billy hung up. Rafe told Billy he won't take Adam's case. Billy argued, saying he needs Adam's story for the magazine. Rafe doesn't care — Billy is just a "user and an ass." Abby showed up wanting to see her cover. Billy refused. Abby tried to give Billy the naked pictures of her from Katherine's pool. No! Next, Abby asked for help with a catchphrase for herself. How's "abs-tastic"? Billy suggested "ab-surd" and threw her out. Billy rewrote the cover story without the Adam quotes he was counting on. Rafe ran into Sharon at Crimson Lights and warned her not to share any info about Adam with Billy. Uh-oh… too late. "What I told Billy was in confidence!" stammered Sharon. "Good luck with that," scoffed Rafe. While reworking the mag, Chloe dropped the bomb that she and Delia were moving to Kevin's apt. "The chipmunk?" gasped Billy. Chloe explained that Chance and Heather were living across the hall. Billy argued that Chloe's scheme puts Delia in danger. Billy and Chloe finished the issue. Chloe warned Billy that Abby won't like the cover when she sees it, and Sharon will be furious when she sees the cover story about Adam. Billy defended it as the classic story of two brothers with a woman caught in the middle "And I guess I'm that woman?" yelled an entering Sharon. Billy defended his decision to use Sharon's quotes in the mag. Sharon slapped him, to Chloe's obvious delight. Later, Billy and Chloe studied the new cover. It read: "OMG! My two brothers are jailed - and I'm naked," with no mention of animal rights.
Abby brought champagne to Daniel's apt and offered to pose naked for him. No, thanks. They clinked glasses as Abby bragged about how great their cover is going to be.
Friday
Sharon visited Adam at jail. He was happy to see Sharon instead of Victor and was grateful that she returned. She replied that she shouldn't have come back. "Then why did you?" he asked. She explained that she came for answers and wondered how real their relationship had been. Adam insisted that his feelings for her were real and that during their marriage, he was so guilty about taking her baby. Sharon didn't understand how someone who said he loved her could do something like that to her. Adam was upset to see her so confused. He confessed that he set up Hightower and lured Sharon to the club ... but then he knew he couldn't be a murderer because Sharon knew that he could be a better person. She wasn't sure if she could believe him. "I need you," he whispered. "I am nothing without you." Sharon's eyes filled with tears as she silently left the jail visitors' room.
At the tack house, Phyllis and Nick looked forward to telling the world that he'd been cleared of Hightower's murder. He was anxious to put their lives back together.... Nikki told Victor that she was proud of him for going after Adam -- though she wasn't too thrilled about Victor having jumped out of an airplane. After, Victor held a press conference where he denounced Adam and stated that Adam would never be a part of his family again. Nick then spoke, thanking Michael, Victor, Nikki, Victoria, his kids and most of all, Phyllis, for helping him through the difficult time. He then declared how grateful he is to her her husband. After, Nikki took Phyllis aside and reminded her daughter-in-law how much Nick loves her. She suggested that Phyllis and Nick go away somewhere and offered to watch Summer for them.
At the courthouse, Pomerantz stated why Patty had motive to kill Hightower. Paul urged the defense attorney to challenge the confession, then asked the judge if he could speak on Patty's behalf. He shared his theory about Adam manipulating her into confessing. Pomerantz, of course, didn't want to hear it. Paul noted that Patty wasn't even tall enough to stab Hightower with the pen. Pomerantz replied that Patty had said that she'd stood on a crate. Patty asked Paul not to fight for her. and stated that she is guilty. Paul then brought up Jack and Emily's relationship and she immediately freaked out, recalling how she slashed Emily's face (really thinking of the portrait of Em). Paul hugged her as she broke down. He then pointed out that Patty confessed to something that never happened. Later, Patty asked why he tried to embarrass her. He explained that he was trying to help her. The judge decided that Patty wasn't fit to stand trial, but was still a murder suspect -- and would return to the mental hospital. Paul was devastated, but Patty seemed fine with the ruling.
Abby went to Crimson Lights and spoke with her producer about her Restless Style cover. However, when she saw the actual cover, she became upset....
Pomerantz joined the Newmans at the press conference and announced that Nick is no longer a person of interest and that they were reopening the investigation. Victor was disappointed that Pomerantz didn't apologize for wrongfully arresting Nick. Sharon then arrived and joined Nick. He became furious when she shared that she'd visited Adam.
At the magazine, Billy made some business calls. Victoria arrived and slammed down the latest issue. "How could you do this to me?" she asked angrily. Specifically, she didn't like his article about Adam and Nick's war over Sharon and feared what Victor's reaction would be. Billy noted that he never mentioned her, but she didn't care and called him a "pompous ass." Victoria then ended things between her and Billy and stormed out of his office. Later, Abby confronted Billy about running the story about Nick and Adam instead of featuring her. She complained that he made her look like an airhead. Billy refused to apologize. Abby accused him of using her; he retorted that she's screwed over plenty of people herself -- and that if she wants to be in the spotlight, these are the types of things she'd have to deal with. This just made Abby angrier and she left.
Victoria joined her family and showed them the article. They were horrified. Nikki was concerned about Phyllis's reaction and noted that if Victoria was that upset about Billy, she must have real feelings for him. Nikki supported Victoria being with Billy, if he makes her happy. Later, Nikki found Abby reading the article at the coffeehouse and made a joke about Abby showing skin. Abby shot back that Nikki has no right to make cracks about being naked. Nikki then tried to talk to Abby about doing something more worthwhile with her life -- and gaining respect. She pointed out that her stripper past is still thrown in her face, decades after the fact. Abby argued that pole dancing is now "hot" and wanted to make a name for herself. She then went online and was thrilled to see that her sex video was very popular. Nikki was aghast.... Victor stopped by the magazine office to see Billy and asked why he put Abby on the cover. Billy replied that Abby begged to be on it. Victor accused Billy of exploiting Abby, then threw a glass against a large framed blow-up of the cover, shattering it. Victoria arrived and declared her love for Billy in front of her dad.
Adam went to the courthouse for his arraigmnent and said that he'd be defending himself. The judge asked if he knew what he was doing and Adam confirmed that he did. Pomerantz joined them and the arraignment began. The judge asked if he was guilty. Suddenly, Skye appeared and stated that he's not guilty.
Sharon wondered aloud if she should just give up on "both of them".... Phyllis and Nick returned home and he wondered why she was being so quiet. Nick wanted to talk, but Phyllis refused. "I played the good wife," she said sadly. "I stood beside you in front of the cameras tonight. But I'm done. No more, Nick. No more us." Nick was stunned. "I deserve so much more," Phyllis told him. "This is done. This s good-bye -- for good." She left their home, as a shocked Nick watched her head out.
