Ashley Bashioum (Mackenzie)
Who Did You Bring To The Emmys?
“I went with my dad and my brother, and that was really fun. My brother is like my best friend. We get along really well.”Jeanne Cooper (Katherine)
Any Funny Stories From Emmy Night? “I was wearing $100,000 worth of canary and white [Sol Rafael] diamonds, and the man who was protecting it was following me around. But he was so good. You didn’t see him, but someone was following me around all evening long [laughs].”Jerry Douglas (John)
What Did You Think Was The Biggest Surprise Of The Night? “I was thrilled we won Best Show, but I was also shocked, because how can you win Best Show and not Best Writing? That’s what I couldn’t conceive. The show is driven by story. But that’s not the first time that has happened. In fact, it has happened many times.”John Enos (Bobby)
On The Emmy Telecast: “It was much better being back at two hours [as opposed to last year’s three-hour show]. They cut out the singing and dancing, which they didn’t need, so it was bearable. But they didn’t serve any water. I was dying. You’ve got to have some refreshments for people for two hours.”
Do Anything Fun In New York? “I invited the actors to come down to Nello’s, where we all had lunch on the outdoor patio. It was me, Greg Rikaart [Kevin], Christian [J. LeBlanc, Michael], Kate Linder [Esther], Lauren Woodland [Brittany], and they brought friends. There were about 14 of us all together. It was fun.”Producer Kathryn Foster
Your Thoughts On The Best Show Win: “It’s awesome for everybody who works on our show, who works so hard all year long. I couldn’t be happier for our crew and our cast. And Michelle [Stafford, Phyllis; Outstanding Lead Actress winner] is awesome. She is poise and grace personified.”Michael Graziadei (Daniel)
How Was Your First Daytime Emmy Experience? “Amazing. David [Lago, Raul] and Thad [Luckinbill, J.T.] showed me around. We had a good time together. I was just trying to stay close by everybody and keep meeting as many people as I could. This was the first major event like this for me. I came out to New York once for New Year’s Eve and once to screen-test for ALL MY CHILDREN, so this was the first time I got to go and enjoy myself.”Christel Khalil (Lily)
Did You Get To Do Anything Fun During The Week? “My mom and I went to South Carolina to see family from the Friday before [the Emmys] until that Tuesday. But, our flight [on Friday] was hell because we missed it because I was working at Y&R, and the next flight was at 10:30 at night. Then, there was a layover in Florida, so we didn’t get in until 8:30 in the morning. And, I had a pimple on my forehead! I was freaking out because I was so stressed with traveling. It can really take a toll on you, so I was trying to calm myself down. I was like, ‘I can’t have pimples for the Emmys!’ “Christian J. LeBlanc(Michael)
Did It Stink Not Winning? “I had a good time. It was my fourth time, but Rick Hearst [Ric, GH, who won for Outstanding Supporting Actor] is my friend, so what a great thing to complain about. ‘[Mock whining] I’ve been nominated four times, and here I am at a fancy party in Manhattan.’ Please. I’m having a ball. But, I would like to win an Emmy [someday]. I’m on it like a monkey on a cupcake [laughs].”Kate Linder(Esther)
Any Emmy Week Mishaps? “I’ll say! I did a play reading in New York. It was wonderful, but we were really fortunate because we had problems getting in because our plane had a mechanical [problem], and I was like, ‘I’m going to miss this play!’ I would have come in the night before, but I had another appearance. So, we ran across the airport and got on the Newark flight, but our luggage didn’t. I didn’t have the clothes to change into that I brought to do the reading. But that was okay. I made it, and it all worked out, but the playwright was having a heart attack [laughs].”Greg Rikaart(Kevin)
What Was Your Favorite Emmy Memory? “When they announced Best Show. After a somewhat disappointing night, that was a nice recovery.”Victoria Rowell (Drucilla)
Did You Enjoy Presenting WithKristoff St. John (Neil)? “Absolutely. [The producers] cut away the fat and got right to the point. No schtick, and that was really nice. It went along with the theme of the set, which I’m describing as very feng shui. It was elegant and beautiful, including the lighting, which I thought complimented us as performers making our presentation. Without bells and whistles, it made it very easy for us as performers to make our entrances, make our presentation gracefully and depart with the winner into the wings.”Asia Ray Smith (Sierra)
How Was Your Trip? “We took the red-eye Tuesday night from L.A. I went to a ladies’ luncheon Wednesday, and Christel and I went shopping at H&M and got a whole bunch of stuff. Walking around the city was so much fun. We all love this city.”
Michelle Stafford (Phyllis)
On Her Poignant Acceptance Speech: “I thought, ‘Say something that’s going to make people feel.’ I did think, ‘What do you feel is important about being an actress and achieving your goals as an actress?’ Because you feel like a freak, and some of these kids out there feel like they’re freaks, but they don’t do anything creative. They don’t fit into groups. I never fit in. I pretended to fit in, and I kind of still don’t. So, use your thing. Do something creative, because that’s the best thing you can do. I don’t know if any [of those kids] were watching, but maybe a couple adults who think they’re kids were [laughs].”Jess Walton (Jill)
What Was Fun About The Emmys For You? “The theater. We’ve seen The Boy From Oz, Hairspray and Wicked. I love the idea of a prequel to The Wizard Of Oz! It’s like a vacation.”Lauren Woodland (Brittany)
Did You Do Anything Fun In New York? “I spent the week doing a lot of publicity, which was really fun, but I’m glad I got there early. I came in the Saturday night before the Emmys, and I was by myself. I had a beautiful room that overlooked Central Park, and we had a thunder and lightning storm. So, I put in a Frank Sinatra CD, sat in the window with a glass of red wine and room service, and I just watched the thunderstorm. It was incredible. And then on Sunday, I went to Bergdorf [Goodman’s] and spent four hours there [laughs], so I had a nice weekend beforehand, so I was ready to work. But everybody was so supportive and said how much they were rooting for me – friends, family and coworkers – and that just meant the world to me. I felt really loved and supported. I didn’t realize how lucky I was, so that made me feel like I won.”
