Young and Restless Recaps
Y&R Week of August 3, 2009
Monday
Noah and Nikki dined at Crimson Lights. Noah read the paper and discussed Victor. He realized that Victor has been messing with people's lives, including Colleen and Ashley's. Noah informed Nikki that he hasn't been spending a lot of time at the ranch because Victor doesn't want him and Abby
making noise around Ashley. He apologized for mentioning Victor, but Nikki replied that she and Vic are in a good place. Noah didn't understand why all of the adults in his life seem to bounce between partners while he and Eden are stable. Nikki stated that she's doing the right thing by marrying Paul.
Meanwhile, Jack was upset with Billy for telling off Victor, fearing that it would upset Ashley. Billy didn't regret going head-to-head with Newman, but promised to make things right for their sister's sake.... At the Newman Ranch, a furious Ashley confronted Victor about using Jill to manipulate the Abbotts and humiliating Colleen to get her kicked off the Newman Board. She demanded that her husband give her some space and went to take Zapato for a
walk. Billy then stopped by and blamed Victor for Ashley falling apart. Victor warned Billy that he'd better not make trouble for him. Billy thought that Ashley deserved to know the truth about Victor's misdeeds and vowed that he and Jack would get through to her. Victor demanded that Billy get lost and slammed the door in his face.
Mary Jane wondered around the potting shed desperately searching for her missing kitty. Zapato then entered the shed and she saw the dog chewing on Kitty's tail! MJ broke down as she cradled the tail and said aloud that she hates Zapato. "It's not fair that he did that you, Kitty," she kept repeating.... While out taking her walk, Ashley thought back to how Sabrina's ghost had warned her that Victor would hurt her. She was alarmed when she heard a rustling noise, but it was only Nikki. She assured Nikki that she was fine when Nikki brought up the board meeting. "It's only my business," Ashley snapped. Abby soon joined her mother and Nikki left them alone.
At the tack house, Phyllis and Nick relished being together after renewing their vows. Nick planned to go to the G.C.A.C. to tell Sharon about remarrying Phyllis.... At the club, Sharon made a call to Doris and admitted that it was hard for her to see Nick and Phyllis reciting their vows. Sharon planned to rely on herself for a change. Soon, Nick arrived and informed Sharon that his family is back together "for real." She feigned happiness for them. Nick wondered how things were going for her and Jack, and Sharon reported that she and Jack broke up. Nick was surprised; Sharon explained that she can't love Jack the way he deserves to be loved and became angry when Nick urged her to go back to Jack. She insisted that she can take care of herself. Nick apologized for overstepping his bounds and Sharon apologized for snapping at him.... Jack visited Phyllis and she happily told him about her reunion with Nick. He seemed genuinely thrilled for her, however, Jack's mood darkened as Phyllis stated that he and Sharon must be looking forward to having a child together. Jack told her about the breakup and urged her to focus on Nick rather than her insecurities.
Later, Jack and Billy drowned their sorrows at Jimmy's bar. Jack lamented how he was chasing after Sharon like a "lovesick puppy" and she gave him nothing back.... Nick returned home and Phyllis challenged him to a video game tournament. He eagerly accepted, promising to kick her butt, but Phyllis won. After, Phyllis asked how it went with him and Sharon; he admitted that it shocked him to hear that Sharon and Jack split.... Sharon met up with Noah at the coffeehouse. Their gathering was cut short, though, when Eden called asking if he wanted to hang out. Sharon regarded Crimson Lights recalling the happy times (through flashbacks) that she and Nick had spent there.... Later, Nick and Phyllis heard Summer singing the song from their wedding video.
On the ranch grounds, Abby and Ashley discussed Victor wanting to put Billy in charge of Jabot. Abby was confused by him doing this, but reasoned that Victor must've had a good reason for doing so.... Inside, Nikki told Victor that she saw Ashley on the way in and that she seemed to be very fragile. Nikki encouraged Victor to talk to her about what went down at the board meeting, but he wasn't eager to open up to her. When Ashley and Abby returned, Nikki left.
A disguised MJ went to the bar and overheard Jack telling Billy that he and Sharon are over. When Jack took a call, Mary Jane slipped something into his drink. She watched as Billy went up to the counter and handed Jack the drugged beverage.
Tuesday
At Crimson Lights, Nikki and Paul discussed their upcoming wedding plans. Paul shared that his brother, Father Todd, was coming. He couldn't wait to marry Nikki.
Lauren and Michael discussed Daniel's case. Lauren was confident that Michael could get the court to drop the charges against Romalotti. However, they were unsure that Daniel would forgive Amber for sleeping with Deacon to get him released from jail.... Amber stopped by Daniel's apartment and began packing up her things. She became hopeful when he stopped her, but all he wanted was his key back. Amber reminded him that she did what she did for Daniel, but he pointed out that she's hidden so many other things from him about her life. "It's really hard for me," she cried, "because I have been rejected and I know how that hurts." Daniel wasn't sympathetic and repeated that he can't trust her. A tearful Amber left.... At Crimson Lights, Kevin wondered if Jana would do what Amber did to get him out of a situation. Jana replied that it would depend on what he'd done. Their conversation was interrupted when an upset Amber arrived with her box of things. The Fishers invited her to move in with them.... Michael informed Daniel that the D.A. is going forward with his case and warned Daniel not to go up against Deacon by himself.
Billy brought home a woozy Jack from Jimmy's bar (neither aware that Mary Jane had spiked Jack's drink). Jack settled in to take a nap on his couch when he saw a figure of a woman standing over him. "Sharon?" he slurred. The woman — who was really MJ — began to kiss him. Later, Jack awakened and wondered if he'd dreamed about having sex with Sharon. He called out for Sharon, but found Kitty's tail (Ew!) along with a note from Mary Jane saying, "I knew you were still in love with me." He realized that it had been MJ he'd slept with.
Katherine stopped by the bar and questioned Mackenzie about her relationship with Billy. Mac evaded the question, but Kay suspected that something was going on. She feared that Mac getting involved with a married man would lead to Mac getting hurt. "Just make sure you don't sacrifice yourself," Kay counseled her granddaughter.
At the Chancellor Estate, Chance informed Chloe that he's interviewing to be a detective. She was impressed. Chance then stated that he doesn't understand why Billy doesn't realize how great Chloe is. Jill soon returned home and complained that Billy threw her to the wolves. "I was just returning the favor, Mom," Billy said, entering behind her. Billy filled in Chloe and Chance about his feud with Victor and how Jill helped Victor use him as a pawn. Jill feared that Victor would make sure she never worked again. "You can always go back to doing what you do best," sneered Billy. "I'm sure even in a recession, there's a lot of lonely, old wealthy men just looking for some company." "Oh my God, you really hate me, don't you?" a devastated Jill said. Jill insisted that she was trying her best, but Billy didn't want to hear it. Chance stepped in and told Billy not to speak to his mother that way. Jill sincerely apologized to Billy for everything that had happened and wished they could put it behind them. She reasoned that Billy wants to be angry with her, though, so he can have an excuse for his failures. He was angry when Chloe stood up for Jill and Chance.
Lauren and Paul met up at the G.C.A.C. "What, no bachelor party?" Lauren purred. "Well, what's the point if I can't have you jumping out of the cake?" he replied. "Oh, well, excuse me," Lauren joked. "And who says you couldn't? You know, for old time's sake?" They became more serious as they discussed Victor's response to Paul marrying Nikki. Paul noted that Victor basically gave his "blessing" as if Nikki were his.... At the coffeehouse, Nikki met up with Kay. Kay noted that Nikki still seemed to have feelings for Victor, but Nikki insisted that she loves Paul. Kay agreed to be her matron of honor.
Kay returned home and found Billy badmouthing Jill. She warned him that if he kept having so much resentment, he might live to regret it. Billy couldn't believe that Katherine would give him this advice when she and Jill have been feuding for years. "Who better to tell you then that it's a waste of time?" she reasoned and reminded him that many people love him. After Billy left with Cordelia, Chance wondered to Chloe if he shouldn't have interfered in Billy and Jill's argument. Chloe insisted that deep down Billy
really is a good guy.
Lauren went to the coffeehouse and found Amber. She comforted Amber and offered to help her find a space to make her designs.... Daniel returned to his apartment and thought about happier times with Amber.
MJ returned to the bar and informed Mac that she reconciled with her husband. Mac thought the man was abusive, but MJ explained that he was really nice. When Mary Jane went to retrieve her things, Mac left a message for Billy saying that something weird was going on with the "homeless" woman she'd befriended. When Billy arrived with Delia, MJ left. Mac told Billy that Kay knows about them.
Lauren joined Nikki at the coffeehouse and they chatted about Nikki and Paul's upcoming wedding. Lauren wished them the best. After, Nikki called and made an appointment to pick up her wedding rings. Meanwhile, Paul spoke with his mother; no one had heard from Patty. Later, Jack called Paul and asked to talk.
Kay told Jill that she'd advised Billy to forgive Jill. Kay confessed that her marriage to Phillip II hadn't been that strong and it hadn't been fair of her to blame Jill for its demise. Jill broke down as she recalled all the years that Kay berated her for stealing Kay's husband — and that their animosity was all for nothing. "Of all the humiliations I've suffered at your hands ... this is the cruelest of all," Jill cried.
Wednesday
Nick and Victoria met at the tack house to work on details for Nikki's wedding. Victoria admitted to Nick that she and J.T. had been fighting recently. J.T. arrived to help, and Victoria gave him the cold shoulder. When J.T. left, Nick mentioned Victoria's attitude. "Not everyone can be as deliriously happy as you and Phyllis," she retorted.
Nikki met Paul at the Club to discuss the wedding. She handed him the rings and declared them "his responsibility." Victor approached Nikki and wished her well in her new life with Paul. He warned her that Paul loved her way more than she loved him. Nikki then headed to the chapel, and was happy to find Fr. Todd there. She thanked him for being willing to do the rehearsal. He gave her an old photo of her and Paul he had found. While looking at the photo, she flashed back to her first youthful relationship with Paul. She smiled at the fond memory, but the smile quickly disappeared when she remembered Victor's warning that it would be dangerous to marry someone because they were "safe." She began to have a memory of Paul proposing, but it turned into a memory of the first time Victor proposed. That memory then became a montage of all three of their fairy-tale weddings, including the one at her hospital bedside. Victoria arrived at the chapel and questioned Nikki about her daydreams. They discussed whether her upcoming nuptials with Paul might, in fact, be a reaction to Victor beginning a family with Ashley, as Victoria had previously suggested. Victoria told her mother that it was healthy to reflect on the past; to get it all out of her system before the wedding. Nikki thanked her for her wise advice. "I just wonder what I should do about my own situation," Victoria lamented. After Victoria left, Nikki resumed daydreaming about Victor. Her powerful memories included their weddings, kisses, and the day when he gifted her with Zapato.
Jack arrived at the chapel and snapped Nikki back to reality. He wished her true happiness with Paul. She asked Jack whether he ever thought about their child that had been stillborn. He admitted that he often did, and they lit a candle for the boy, who would have now been a teenager. They hugged tightly, and Nikki thanked him for his support. "This isn't goodbye, ya know!" Jack said. "You're getting married ... to a good man!" He kissed her and wished her good luck. Nikki resumed her daydreaming, this time reflecting upon the bad times with Victor ... the times that he devalued her and raised his voice at her ... even the time he came back from Mexico and told her that her love was sick and it deserved to die. Nick arrived at the chapel. Nikki asked him to walk him down the aisle, and he responded that he would be honored. Nick reminded Nikki that Paul was good for her ... that he had always looked out for her. Her memories of the good times with Paul began to flood back to her.
Paul arrived at the Abbott mansion in response to Jack's summons to discuss Mary Jane. He questioned how Jack knew that MJ was still in town. "I slept with her last night," Jack replied. Paul was initially skeptical about Jack not knowing the difference between MJ and Sharon, but after Jack showed him the dead cat's tail, Paul began to suspect that MJ had spiked his drink.
At the ranch, Adam and Ashley discussed Victor's lies and betrayal. Adam offered his support, and Ashley gushed about how much she was comforted by Adam and Zapato. Ashley looked for Zapato, but quickly became agitated when he was nowhere to be found. Victor went out the front door to look for the dog, and found him on the front porch looking ill. The vet arrived and pronounced that Zapato had been exposed to some sort of toxin, and that he needed to get to the clinic right away. She said she wouldn't know whether he was intentionally poisoned until she ran the blood work. Just then, Paul phoned Victor and informed him that Mary Jane had surfaced in town. Victor immediately suspected that she had poisoned Zapato. He requested that Paul come to the ranch to discuss it further, but Paul declined, saying that he would be wrapped up with his wedding for the next couple of days. Before the vet could transport Zapato to the hospital, the dog passed away. Victor and Ashley were saddened and shaken. Victor ordered the vet to investigate the possible poisoning. Ashley broke down sobbing that it was her fault. Victor instructed Adam to say nothing to Ashley about the possibility that MJ had poisoned Zapato.
Jack arrived at the ranch in time to overhear Victor on the phone demanding a search for Mary Jane. He filled Victor in on MJ's latest stunt. Victor told Jack about his theory that she had poisoned Zapato. They argued about whether Ashley should know about the latest on MJ. Before Jack left, he and Victor agreed to let each other know if they heard from or saw Mary Jane. Meanwhile MJ left a love note and a bouquet of flowers at Jack's front door.
Paul met with J.T. at the coffeehouse. He asked J.T. to take on much of his caseload, and offered him a partnership in his investigation firm. J.T. was intrigued by the offer, since he was no longer employed by Newman Enterprises. When Paul suggested discussing it with Victoria, J.T. claimed he didn't need to. "I accept, Partner!" he exclaimed. Paul informed J.T. that his first priority would be the Mary Jane Benson case. "She's dangerous," Paul warned. They left to go to the chapel for the rehearsal. Paul introduced his brother, Fr. Todd, to everyone. J.T. got Victoria alone and told her about his new business partnership. Paul and Nikki shared a tender moment in which he gave her a wedding gift. She opened the jewelry box to find a crystal necklace with an ice cream cone charm which symbolized their long journey together. They declared their love for one another as he put the necklace on her. She told him that she couldn't wait to take the next step in the journey, and walk down the aisle with him.
Thursday
Victoria, Nick, J.T. and Katherine arrived at the church for Nikki and Paul's wedding rehearsal. Nikki introduced Kay to Father Todd. Victoria noticed a certain piece of Nikki's jewelry and Nikki proudly stated that it was a gift from Paul. Heather soon arrived and informed Paul that Adam couldn't make it. Todd then led them through the rehearsal. Nikki confessed to Nick that she's nervous; he assured his mom that she was going to live happily ever after.
Sharon ran into Phyllis at Crimson Lights and asked how Summer was doing. Phyllis made small talk back by asking Sharon how her pregnancy was going. Phyllis then showed Sharon the new ring that Nick had gotten for her and explained that she was about to go to Paul and Nikki's rehearsal. Sharon noted that there have been many ceremonies in Genoa City.
At the Newman Ranch, Victor tried to comfort an upset Ashley, but she said that she'll never forget the way she manipulated her regarding Jabot. He was determined to resolve things with his wife. Ashley was also upset about Zapato's death. She then spied Sabrina's ghost; "Sabrina" approached her and warned Ashley that the ranch is a death trap. Victor saw Ashley's worried face and reminded her that he wants to take care of her. After he stepped away to get her tea, Sabrina told Ashley that she knows a "little secret" about Ashley's "baby."
Neil and Tyra helped Lily get comfortable after she was released from the hospital. Lily was thrilled to be reunited with Humphrey, but dreaded having to start chemotherapy in a couple of weeks. Neil told Lily that he stocked the fridge for her and asked what else she needed. "To see Cane," she replied. Neil argued that it was too soon for "company," but Lily insisted and Tyra backed her up. Neil urged his daughter to give it some time, however, he let Lily call her husband. Cane agreed to come over to Neil's place. When he arrived, Neil reluctantly invited him in. Lily was happy to see him. "You're beautiful," Cane told her. "Yeah, I'm a vision," Lily said sarcastically. Soon, a gift basket arrived for Lily; Cane
revealed that it was from him. Lily was touched and thanked him. They went through the basket, which included things like strawberry tarts, lip balm, hand sanitizer, eye drops, stuff for stomach problems and a romance novel. He explained that he'd met a cancer survivor who told him that this stuff
made her feel better. He became upset as they discussed what the effects of the chemo would be, like her hair falling out, and promised to be there for her.
Neil and Tyra went out for coffee. He was annoyed with Tyra for staying in touch with Cane while Lily was in surgery. Tyra replied that Cane was the one who got Lily to go into surgery in the first place. Neil feared that Cane would betray her again and thought she should be around people she could trust. Tyra noted that Neil keeps pulling away from her when all she wants to do is be there for him and his family. She then admitted that she overheard him talking to the late Dru at the hospital. "Dru's gone and it's just me. I'm here," Tyra said. Neil replied that with Lily sick, he doesn't have the energy to determine where their relationship is going.
Phyllis arrived at the church and joined everyone at the rehearsal. After, everyone dined at the G.C.A.C. as an upset Sharon watched. Nick made a toast to Nikki and Paul, recalling how they've been friends since they were teens.
"It's important that you be with someone who you want to grow old with," Nick stated and wished them a long and happy life together. Sharon continued to watch. Nikki didn't look as happy as a bride-to-be should be. After, Kay apologized to Nikki for accusing Nikki of still being hung-up on Victor. Kay then confided that she's not sure that Phillip II was the love of her life. Nikki was shocked. Kay explained that marrying Murphy put things in perspective for her.... J.T. and Victoria argued over J.T. being okay with their son eating ice cream. J.T. pointed out that she's just upset that she doesn't have control over everything.
Nick and Phyllis went home and Phyllis reported that she and Sharon had a civil conversation at Crimson Lights. Nick was pleased. They kissed and began to undress.... Sharon went to the jewelry store and asked to see a duplicate of the ring that Nick gave Phyllis. She then tried it on.... Before leaving the church, Paul told Nikki that he's known he's wanted to spend his life with her for a long time. "I'm very happy that you chose me," he whispered. "I love you. I think I always have." They embraced, but Nikki looked worried.
At the ranch, a tearful Ashley asked Victor if they would've ended up together if she hadn't sought him out after Sabrina died. "It felt like it was destiny," she said. "Will I always be a consolation prize to you?" she wanted to know. Victor reminded her that he's loved her for years. "You've loved lots of people," Ashley said, noting that she doesn't really know who she is to him.
The show ended with a montage of Nick and Phyllis starting to make love, Kay and Murphy kissing, Victoria and J.T. angry with each other, Sharon trying on the ring, Neil sadly looking outside, Cane and Lily cuddling, Victor reaching out for Ashley, Nikki and Paul in the church. "Paul, I'm sorry," Nikki told him. "I can't marry you."
Friday
Sharon became starry eyed as she tried on a duplicate of Phyllis's ring. She got emotional while flashbacking about Nick and suddenly bolted from the jewelry store, still wearing the ring. A security guard chased her down and dragged her back. Sharon claimed that running off with the bling was an accident but the police were called anyway. Cops arrived and recognized Sharon as being in trouble before and arrested her.
Victoria visited Nick and the sibs discussed their mom's wedding. "Paul's a great guy," Nick declared, which got Victoria wondering if Victor and Nikki will ever get over each other. Nick thought Paul was just the guy to make their mom forget Victor.
At the chapel, Paul was understandably shocked as Nikki explained that she didn't love him with all of her heart and soul. He suggested they postpone the nups but she turned that down, then gave back the engagement ring. Nikki sobbed that she was going to leave town for "a while" to have "time to
think." She gave Paul a note to read later, then dumped the responsibility on him to tell everyone about the canceled wedding (why don't you just cut out his heart, Nik?). "I still love you," he choked, then made a vague reference to Victor "looming over us." With tears flowing, Nikki walked out of the chapel, as Paul sat alone, trying to make sense of what just happened.
"You and the baby mean everything to me," Victor insisted to a fuming Ashley, who lashed out at him for manipulating her family. He wanted to table their conversation to keep her calm and she agreed. Ash didn't want Victor to join her in their bedroom so he consented to sleeping in the guest room. After Ashley went upstairs, Nikki unexpectedly showed up. As Adam eavesdropped, Nikki confessed she called off her wedding because she is still in love with her ex. She also suggested that Victor has never loved anyone as much as he loved her. Nikki assured she wasn't trying to get Victor back and that she had a taxi waiting for her, then revealed that she is leaving Genoa City for a while. She asked her ex to tell that to their kids. They hugged and she left a very touched Victor. After a few minutes, he left the house, too.
In bed, Ashley couldn't sleep and hallucinated about Sabrina (who's been making more comebacks than Cher). The dead Mrs. Newman told Ashley that her baby "is gone" and that Victor is coming back to her. An agitated Ashley came downstairs and couldn't find Victor. She grabbed her car keys and ran out of the house in search of him.
Paul summoned Heather to the chapel and shared that "the wedding's off." He also shared something about Adam. After Heather left, Victor showed up and Paul acknowledged that Vic and Nikki can't seem to move on without each other. "She left us both," Paul huffed and departed. Alone, Victor admitted to himself that he still loves Nikki.
Heather stormed into the ranch and demanded to know if Adam is gay. She screamed that Nikki left a note for Paul that said she saw Adam and Rafe together. Adam denied he swings both ways and Heather threatened to call Rafe for his side of the story. Adam had no choice but to confess that he had been with Rafe but it "was a mistake" and a "one time deal." She refused to believe him and told him, "I never want to see your face again." After she left, Adam cursed Nikki for her interference.
Nikki went outside and discovered that her taxi was gone. She called for another and said she would "walk out to the main road." While waiting in the rain, Ashley came driving out of nowhere and thought Nikki was Sabrina standing at the side of the road. Nikki was caught in the headlights as tires were heard screeching.
