Valerie remained in town and attempted to lure Jamal away from Alison. When that didn’t work, she picked up a gun, went crazy and took Alison hostage. Jamal tried to talk Val into letting Alison go. They struggled, the gun went off — and Valerie was fatally shot. Jamal became depressed and guilt-ridden and broke up with Alison soon after. Once he dealt with his grief, he tried to win her back, but Ali had moved on with Rafe. Jamal eventually met Marissa, the twin sister of angel Casey, and the two quickly became an item — both romantically and professionally. Marissa’s life became endangered by Caleb, however, so Casey took her sister’s spot back on Earth after making a deal with the heavens. Marissa returned home, with no recollection of ever being in P.C., and poor Jamal was left broken-hearted again.
2003
Living amongst a community of vampires (Jack really started a trend in town), Jamal was bitten and turned into a bloodsucker by Frank. Jamal went to work for head vamp Joshua, but it was later revealed that he was working undercover to keep Alison safe. Ali was being forced into a marriage to Joshua, and Jamal and Rafe teamed up to protect her. Joshua was killed, but Jamal remained one of the fanged. He came across a magic ring, which turned out to be Caleb’s, and realized that it made wishes come true. When Jamal wished for a wonderful woman, Imani, a mysterious gal with a shady past, showed up. Despite the fact that Imani is hiding a dark secret, the two have grown close.
