I recieved 2 calls today: the first a "courtesy call" from "Nicholoas, you can call me Nick" notifying me the rates were going up and I can lock in a rate of 69 bucks. He then states that I will be receiving a call to see if he was polite, etc., and that is when I will be able to renew and lock in my rate. An hour later, "Julie" calls and says I have to renew for 3 years and we can do it all at once or in payments, etc. During this call, she keeps cutting in and out and I finally lose her. When I try to call her back, all I get is a busy signal. I look the number up online, it is UNPUBLISHED and out of Texas. They had American accents. Then I call SOD and they know nothing about this and agree it is a scam. Again, the phone rings and it is "Julie". I tell her No I won't be renewing and why. She told me if I REALLY called SOD, I'd know this was real, etc. The last thing anybody wants to do is call me a liar, that is just something I do not do. I won't repeat what I said to her. She then says she apologizes for the phone trouble, but it is storming and they are having trouble with the phonelines. I told her not to call me back, in so many words. I check the weather there....it is SUNNY and 70 degrees!!!!!! This is what showed up on my phone: TRADE SUBSCRIPTIONS and 281-872-3595,4022, and 4347. Please BE AWARE and DON"T give them any information!!
They have even tried to call me again, this morning. I wasn't around to answer the phone and they didn't leave a message.
This also happened to me. I received a call from a fast talking operator offering a renewal price for SOD before a hike in the subscription rate. Since my renewal isn't until September, I declined. I have since receiced a of couple calls a day from 702-520-9167. They never leave a message. It comes up on the caller ID as a cellular call. When I googled it, the call comes from Nevada and it does have something to do with magazine subscriptions. I usually recieve a renewal notice in the mail from SOD so this sounds suspicious.
I don't subscribe to SOD, but I'd never do a renewal over the phone. I get renewal notices from so many companies it's hard to know which ones are legitimately from the magazine. I will also watch the subscription cards - sometimes they offer better rates than what they are asking you to renew for.

Got the same call from same number. I hung up on them. Never take that call. I will not give that information over the phone.
