A Soap Lover's Guide to New Orleans

Sure, New York and Los Angeles are the obvious places to go if you want to see soap stars and the places where they film scenes. But the Big Easy also has some fun soap connections. There’s no shortage of good music in New Orleans and there was plenty of that at Bradley Cole’s (Jeffrey, GUIDING LIGHT) rockin’ show at the Mermaid Lounge on Feb. 21 — which just happened to be Mardi Gras weekend.” I have never been to Mardi Gras before,” Cole revealed. “We walked over to Bourbon Street and it is like entering another universe. It was insane! It was the afternoon and it was already out of control.”Cole loves New Orleans. “It is a music city,” he smiles. “All of the architecture, the French influence, is just very cool. It is great to walk down the streets.”Cole performed a lot of songs for his latest album In Our Time (available at www.nomadicmusic.com) during his New Orleans show. “I like doing ‘Ten Thousand Miles Away’ and ‘In Our Time.’ Those two [songs] are kind of special to me,” says Cole, who would be open to singing on GL. “I have suggested it to them, if they want to do it. It would be difficult for Jeffrey to break into song though. He is supposed to be this CIA special ops guy and he is a DA on top of everything. Now he sings and plays guitar?”(For a free download of “Ten Thousand Miles Away,” go to: Nomadic Music)

If you want a drink at a fun bar in New Orleans, check out Mimi’s. You may just run into co-owner Cady McClain (Rosanna, AS THE WORLD TURNS). “I have a place to go and get drunk when I go to New Orleans,” she quips. “It is a neighborhood-y bar. Local musicians and the people who spend a lot time in New Orleans are finding it. It is becoming the next cool little music place.” (Mimi’s is located at 2601 Royal St.; 504-942-0690)Finally, no trip to New Orleans would be complete without visiting the gorgeous Oak Alley Plantation which was where DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ Bo and Hope first made love back in the summer of 1984.
