Robert Newman's New Toy

Most stars drive up to the Emmys in a limo (or bus), but in 2002 Robert Newman (Josh, GUIDING LIGHT) arrived via the new Mini Cooper. “I drove up in a black one with a black-and-white checkerboard top on it that the dealership had brought down, because I was still waiting for my car,” recalls Newman, who would make a great spokesperson for the popular car that was featured in the recent hit film The Italian Job.”I love the Mini,” he raves. “It’s my favorite car I have ever owned. It’s just spectacular, and relatively inexpensive.” (Check out the rest of the Newman brood in the photo — wife Britt and children Connor, 14, and Kendal, 11, obviously love the family car too!)There are some minor Mini problems, however. “I have to say, every once in a while I’m around the big SUVs and it freaks me out a little. The most frightening moment was about 4 o’clock in the morning on the Long Island Expressway with a giant tractor trailer on one side of me and a big construction wall on the other side.”And, in the beginning, every time I walked out of a store people would have their head inside my car. That was fun for about a week and then it started to bother me.”
