Hey I'm just curious and trying to get a read on ya'll for this one.....Do you think that they should've kept Sabrina around longer? I m not even a fan, and that's one of the things that got me to start writing on this forum. Really curious was it all THAT bad, that we have to deal with all the mess that is now going on? Did it really advance the storyline or what? I mean this will spin of some stories, but was it just that the ick factor was too much? I know that she was shoved down our throats daily, and that in itself was enough right there. Curious. Even those of you that just read what is written with no comment, I want your imput. I'm not talking about the acting either, I mean the storyline....Would it have been better for Sab to be around giving the Nemans grief and for Victoria and her to have come to terms with the relationship AND baby. Rather than have Vic all depressed?
i know this will lead us into the Paris story nd the possible reconnection with Ash but still.....

I was ready for the story of the GREAT LOVE of Sabrina and Victor to be over. You are totally right about the ick factor. It just made Victor look like a dirty old man. But with that said, I think they could have spun the story in a different direction. I thought the actress was really pretty and probably a good actress, but she was too sugary sweet. I didn't really care if she and Victoria ever reconciled. I know if my best friend got pregnant by my 60 something year old father I would never forgive her/or him either for that matter. I think they should have uncovered different layers of her personality. Like maybe she was a con like her mother, or a golddigger, or maybe that she was faking the pregnancy. Instead we are left with poor pitiful Victor, who is acting way out of character.
The storyline may have worked if they had gone about it differently. The poor actress was just not experienced enough for that amount of screen time. If TPTB had gotten someone with real soap experience, that would have gone a long way towards making it a better story. The main problem, though, is that Sabrina was supposed to be this great, supportive, life-line, only person she had, friend to Victoria --- that we'd never heard of until a week before she showed up. You can't build a story like that around a complete stranger. It would have been much better to give Victoria someone at work - on screen - that she struck up a friendship with if they really wanted anyone to invest in the conflict of that relationship with Victor. That might have been interesting.
Actually there had be cursory mentions of Sabrina previously, but not until Victoria had a somewhat bout of post pardem did we really hear more about her and she asked her to come to visit. But you are right a better intro to would have made the story line go better. As for the actress they used, she was starting to come into her own, just didn't have enough time to nurture the character.
I liked her. I didn't mind the Sabrina and Victor storyline. However, the fallout is driving me mad. I feel like he barely knew her before he decided to marry her and then she died not all that long after. He's so devistated and I feel like he didn't even know her all that well. I just don't get it.
The only answer I can think of for that is that she was able to touch a part of Victor that no one else not Ashley, Diane not even Nikki could. And when he lost that connection he felt lost for the first time in his life and just doesn't know what to do about it. Yes I am saying that the Great Victor Newman has been brought to his knees and it wasn't by Jack or Brad or Adam or anyone else but by a love like he had never knew. And yes he didn't know that well or for very long, but they say when it's right, it's right I guess.
agreed, they should have kept her longer. The actress was getting more comfortable in front of the camera and there is so much they could have done with that storyline. At first I was not a fan, but it grew on me. TPTB need to find the right balance between a rushed storyline and not taking too long to complete a story arc.
Agreed, they need to start tying the stories together soon to much drama going right now and you almost need a score card to know the players if you know what I mean.
With Sabrina, it was very annoying speaking half english half italian every conversation with Victor. When Victor looked at her his eyes starting crossing (anyone notice that?) I thought they would have kept her around a bit longer and make her out to be a total gold digger and plotting with Philip (her old boyfriend). She would get Victor to purchase all of the expensive artwork and then take off. I have been watching Y&R since 1972!
I agree with you. I didn't care for her at first but then I kept hoping that her and Adam were gold diggers and just taking Victor for a ride. Then I started to like her. I was sorry to see her go.
I myself vote for keeping Sabrina on Longer. No it was not worth all the mess. I liked her character and think only an accident (with her surviving) would have been good because the Newman family could have mended ties with her and Victor would still be sane.
Again I felt they killed her off too soon. I was warming up to the character and also didn't always like the half English half French all the time but more so, I hated that when Victor and Sabrina were together, they had no personal space. At Victors age, you tend not to be that "hands on" and in each others face to much I would think. I don't know why that bugged me, but it seems so out of character for him
I couldn't agree more, I think she would have been an asset to the show and kept everyone in check and maybe even bring the family together, as together as they can be.
Okay, this thread is kinda old - it's been awhile since I stopped by Y&R I guess - but I felt the need to comment.Sabrina annoyed me and annoyed me and just as she was starting to not annoy me, they killed her off. That seemed like the worst response. They could have told any number of stories with her, and had just gotten me to the point where I would have watched them. Here's my problem with the whole thing - Victor lost Hope and barely missed a step. (I always felt like they were trying to re-tell the Victor/Hope story with Sabrina.) Now he's crushed over losing Sabrina. I'd like to think part of this big break down is because he never dealt with Hope's death. That could explain his reaction to Adam too - he's disappointed that there's no Hope in Adam.
If this grieving/depression storyline continues he will have grieved over her longer than he knew her!!! Give us a break and get on with it already. GEEZ!
You my fellow poster, have just made a very valid point that I didn't even think of. He really never did grieve Hope, and Adam is so much like him. Nick and Vic are more like their mother. Nice catch!
Well said, that would make more sense than Victor being lost over a girl that he knew for 2 minutes. If we are lucky the powers that be will use that approch and there will be lots more stories to come out from that. Good view point.
Yes I would agree that is a good view point. And as I have said before there is more to this story line than meets the eye and TPTB are kinda leading our minds on so many wild goose chases. Victor has so much history behind him anything could be coming back to bite him in the behind. So I say hold on to you hats this is going to be a good one when it comes out.
I was very disappointed that they killed of Sabrina so early. I think it was a BIG MISTAKE. Victor was happy. Nickie had moved on with her life , the kids has thier partners and were happy. Why do this to Victor? I just thought it was ironic that she reminded me a lot of Victors first wife Julia. Who he locked in the jail cell in the basement of the house. They should of left them alone. Victoria was dead wrong. She is a spoiled chlld that needs to grow up and realize that her mother & father may always love each other but they both have thier seperate lives. They should of left them alone.
You are right about the slight resemblance but wasn't it her lover that he locked in the basement, that was so long ago I can't really remember. But I do remember that was our original intro to Victor, and he was an abusive husband, that part changed when he married Nikki somewhat, the physical end was gone but on the emotional one. He hasn't really changed that much has he.
Cause Eve turned him into a bear. Yes he was very abusive
But wasn't it Julia's lover or what ever he was the one locked in the basement, shot and almost killed.
Hmm not sure I'll have to check......
Thanks and let me know, cause if I remember correctly as well he played Philip Brent or something like that on All My Children and was married to Erica. Could be wrong about that as well.
Don't have my bible with me, will get back to you later in the week
K, thanks.
no prob
Hi there, yes I truly believe Sabrina should've stayed. It would have made great stories. However, I'm liking the hookup between Vicor and Ashley
Ann I see this is your 1st post nice to have you here. any qestions...just ask.
Welcome Ann.
I think Y&R was good with Sabrina though I could have done without her passion for art which I found rather boring. That being said, I don't think Sabrina leaving was completely up to the writers and producers. I remember reading just days before it was announced she was leaving Y&R that there was a fairly new Y&R cast member who was late all the time and expecting things that cast members who were there forever didn't get. It went on to add that this person would soon be leaving abruptly. l always figured because of the timing that SOW and SOD were referring to Sabrina.

I myself think they should have kept her around longer, they didn't even give her a chance. I know a lot of people didn't like the character at first, but they started to come around to her, because as I see it she brought out something in Victor that hasn't been seen in years if at all. We all know he had a gentle side just never showed it, but she got him to.I think we need to see more of her ghost to help Victor come to terms with his loss.I almost wish she had a twin and he discovers her and she turns out to be very much like Sabrina with some subtle difference to make it just a little more exiting.I don't this is just my thoughts on this issue.
